You’re a breath of fresh air! I loved your video and it was just what I was looking for. Now to just work out the yarn, gauge and do some ‘knit math’. Love it!
I’ve knit the Magna Flora in a completely “off” yarn - a lightweight ribbon - and I LOVE it! It knits quickly, and is a beautiful top. I love wearing it! …and Siri needs to quit trying to scold you 🤣😂🤣😂
Thank you for your recommendations...I've put many of them into my favourites 😊. (I love my Love Note🥰). When choosing patterns, I rely a lot on peoples Ravelry notes...my pet peeve is no notes! Maybe you could do a short episode explaining how helpful Ravelry notes are to other knitters?
Great round up. I'm currently knitting Ranunculus as a tee and trying to get my head around all the new things it wants. It's my first sweater since the 80's, so everything is very different. I usually make lace shawls, so I don't know that I've done a gauge swatch in several decades. 😅 The pattern that almost got started first was the Don't Panic one. I also looked at the one with the cables resembling 😊 I am contemplating waist shaping but have no idea of the rules for that, so I'm DC 2 stitches on each side every other row but that might be too rapid. But it's soooo boxy at the sleeve division. Anyway, I loved your vlog and your Ranunculus X3. They look fab! Oh and before I wander off, I'm in CA too. Antelope Valley, near Mojave. ❤
I want to tell you how beautiful your green Ranuculus Tee looks on you …fits you to a tee no pun intended lol …I ❤ this on you !!! Hope to soon cast on 🥰
Loved your suggestions!!! Yes, I knitted a Ranunculus, and will knit more...at least that's what I tell myself when I buy yarn that goes straight to the stash .... love from Lisbon 🥰
I made the worsted weight Easy Eyelet, the worsted I used was on the lighter side so it came out great! It was my second ever sweater. She is working on a super bulky one now that’s cropped. Great pattern round ups!!
🌿💐Y’all have to excuse my French for a moment. NOW THIS IS A MOTHER LOVING comprehensive friggin video. Fellow podcasters, if your watching this PLEEEEEZZZZZE take pointers. What a brilliantly fantastic video thank you so very much me dear!!! I’m working on my first Ranunculus held double with linen & mohair, now at the body section and I love it. I’ll be watching this podcast several times before it’s all over, think I’ll purchase the IIha top so stunning🤗. Again thanks for another fantastic video…I enjoy myself here so much with your company💐🌿
Great idea for video! Good job. Thank you. I have knit 3 Ranunculus and have 3 in planning including yarn. All different fabrics for different occasions and even different seasons, so no problem. I did knit Willa immediately after my first Ranunculus. I made it too large for me with 15" ease, but turns out it's one of my favorites. I want to make another with less ease and do like so many of This.Bird.Knits' designs. Added most of your suggestions to my favorites!....except for Love Notes. No love lost. 😊 Can't exactly say why it's never grabbed me either. Many thanks, enjoyed.
I have knit a Ranunculus making it at a tighter gauge and a lot less positive ease. I have a couple of core patterns that fit me well that I can change up to add texture or use different lace. For example, I used the Ranunculus yoke stitch count and increases but changed out some of the lace and substituted a 'lacy diamond's stitch. All you need to do is a little knitting math for the necessary stitch count. I also added the diamonds just before the hem ribbing and am very happy with the result.
Thank you for the recommendations. I have NOT knit a ranunculus. But have knit the No Need To Panic Sweater. I used a cotton blend, and it is my favorite knitted top.
Super, thanks Leslie. I love my Ranunculus and I loved knitting it so am very keen to try something else similar. 5 of your recommendations are now in my favourites 🧡
Thank you, some lovely designs there. I have 3 Ranunculus and 2 Love Notes 😀 I have been eyeing off the Ilha for some time. Salty Air Tee is another lovely design ❤ lol’d at Siri it does the same thing to me 😂
Thank you! I didn't realize how much I needed these suggestions, but I've just finished my fourth Ranunculus (which I love) and now have so many other beautiful options for a similar experience and end result. Really enjoy your podcasts : )
This has been my favorite of all your podcast-and I have loved all your previous podcast. Lots of ideas for girly tops and has me racing to my stash and to purchasing new patterns!!! Thank you!❤
What a wonderful pattern round up! I knit a ranunculus in fingering weight but I don’t wear it because it’s too transparent. I love the pattern though. I fell in love with the Willfreda you have suggested!!!! Thank you Leslie x
Thank you, Leslie! This video brought the Ilha to my attention. I made one and I love it! The yoke is easy to work and so beautiful. I am on the 2nd sleeve of my second one now ...
I’m knitting my first Ranunculus right now and I am already trying to figure out my next project because I really like it. This video was so helpful for me. I’ll probably have to rewatch it a couple of times before I decide on my next knit, though, lol.
Good morning Leslie! Love the Ranunculus sweater you knit!! The yarn you used really showcases the stitch definition so nicely. I notice so many of the vloggers on RU-vid add a carry-along fuzzy thread like mohair to this sweater which takes away from the stitch definition, and that is totally an opinion that is my own preference which is part of the joy of knitting! I wanted to thank you for doing so much research in available tees and their particular uniqueness!!!!!!! Wilfreda in lavender was my personal favorite out of the sweaters and having said that, I don't think I will be knitting a lacy tee at least this year. Since so many people have knitted Ranunculus I won't be knitting it. I think it has become some kind of badge of honor among knitters but there are so many other sweaters I have in my favorites to knit for myself so I don't want to break away from my plans to add this 'just because.' Oh ya - I also have some weird aversion to the 'Love Knot sweater.' It kind of says to me: "I wanna be like Ranunculus but more over the top!" All those big yarn overs remind me of big horse nostrils! But again that's just how it strikes me- an in your face pattern. Have a great week!!!!! Carrie from Northern CA Bay Area.
Hi Carrie, thanks for your comment! I have to give a shout-out to everyone on RU-vid and IG who helped me source these patterns! But isn’t the Wilfreda so gorgeous?! Love it. I was honestly surprised at how much I love my ranunculus now and how often I wear it! Of course there are so many patterns out there, so I see where you’re coming from!
Thank you so much for doing this roundup of patterns. I’m one of the few that still haven’t knit the Ranunculus, or the love note, lol. I’m still not sure that I will but I did see a few in this video that I might consider. I liked the Ilya and also the Muscari but with some modifications to make the neck more open. I really appreciate you taking the time to pull this all together. 😊
I haven't knit any of these, but the Ranunculus and the Love Note are both on my to-be-knit list. And I am always on the lookout for light, summer knit patterns because I live in GA where it seems like it's summer for 75% of the year. A bunch of your suggestions are now in my favorites for next time I have the space to knit something for myself. Thanks!
Love the round up! I haven't made any of these yet but a few have been on my radar - but the one I'm most excited about now is the Ilha! It's gorgeous and I want a summer tee version and a sweater - that versatility is everything.
I loved this podcast..I am about to start my next ranunculus...I love it because it suits me and goes really well with almost everything in my wardrobe really easy to throw over so many things.i also knit a love note and love that too I have some of this bird knits patterns and can't wait to do one of those!
I am definitely going to check out some of these patterns because I feel the same about the Ranunculus. I just discovered another pattern today that seems to also fit in this category - Fireflies by Lotta Lothgren!
Thank you for this video, I love the patterns you chose! I'm currently knitting the magna flora top, and I gotta say it's a lot of fun. It's the hardest one I've done personally since I'm a beginner, but largely because you have to keep track of the changes in the lace pattern. I'm very excited to finish it!
I knit the Meridian Top by Claudia Quintanilla of EweKnit in Toronto. It's very similar to the Ranunculus too. I suppose the list could go on for ever.
I love the Ranunculus. I’ve made 5 and have a 6th one planned. I made 1 Love Note and it’s nice but I don’t have the desire to make another one. I want to make the Wila and because of this podcast, I am interested in the Magna Flora. Thanks for sharing all of these. I added a few more patterns to my favs. ❤
Thanks for your video. I’m currently making my second Easy Eyelet Yoke Sweater. It’s easy and super quick to knit. It’s been my favorite summer “Tshirt.” ❤
Good suggestions, and I think for me the love note leaves it too open around the whole chest instead of the upper/ neckline so that’s why I haven’t knit it….
With all the math you’ve done, and knitting of excellent sweaters, I’m sure you could adapt any lace type (free) pattern into a yoke sweater for yourself ie design your own. You must by now know what stitch count with which yarn will fit your measurements and ease that you want. I’m in awe of the math you do to figure things out. The pattern round up is great but I am certain you could design your own. 🤩😎
Thanks for the pattern roundup! I haven’t made a ranunculus yet…but the one I love so much I’ve made it three times is the Rock it Tee by Tannis Lavalee…recommend!
I’m like you when it comes to the love note. I don’t know what it is, but I don’t care for it either. Thanks for doing this research. I will definitely make one of your suggestions. (or maybe I’ll just make another Ranunculus 😂)
Hey there! I have a video that may be what you’re looking for here: Easy Knitting Math Tutorial - Knit California Podcast Episode 43 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tlk3kyNif3Q.html
I feel the SAME way about the Love Note! I see so many people love this and people who have made this several times and I keep wanting to love it, but something about it…I can’t quite figure out what…just doesn’t quite hit the mark for me.
I think I would knit the No Need to Panic first. I’d love to see you do a circular yoke series similar to your drop shoulder and raglan. I find myself drawn to colorwork yokes, which are usually circular, but don’t find the fit so flattering.
I thought the same about the ranunculus. I like your results. I will follow your modifications. I recommend SNOWBELL Top by Sandness Garn (NOT Snowball!) Sorry. It's free with the purchase of the yarn - LINE (53% cotton, 33% viscose, 14% linen) very affordable. I Knit one with a worsted weight yarn and now I'm knitting it in DK.
I loved your roundup of alternative sweaters. I am struggling to find a gauge to get the fabric I want on my finished ranunculus. I bought the pattern for a summer tee as I also didn't like the photos., on ravely. Can I ask what needle size you used for your green sweater? I like the fit and the fabric as I don't want a layering piece. I think the cropped breezy fit over a dress is nice but not my vibe😮
I used a size 6mm on my green version, but I did not get the 14 sts gauge. Instead, I did some math based on the gauge I got and knit a few sizes larger. I have a tutorial video on my channel about how I did the math if you’re interested! Good luck, you can do it! 🩷
Question - what brand of swift and yarn winder did you purchase? Would you buy them again or is their a different brand you would recommend? Thank you.
Ive tried to knit the reuculous top about 8 times and I just can't read the pattern as a person with dyslexia, this pattern has something weird going on. I did buy the pattern and the new version but still can't knit it. The pattern is too hard for me to read. I think the problem is the pattern is too open ie. 1 size fits every size imaginable..except my size 16/18
Not sure if this would help but if you ever decide to give it another go, Sun Dragon Tips and Tricks has a Ranunculus playlist that coaches you through all of the stages x
🌴 I DID watch a few of these videos (Sun Dragon channel ) I encourage you to watch them Barbara it’s quite helpful dear one. It’s a series ALL about this particular knit. Best of luck & I hope you get on with this knit it’s so lovely & quick xoxo🌴
Design Customization is more important than 'Inclusiveness'. This creates the opportunity for others to focus on extreme sizes and pigmentation to customize perfectly. I'm so sick of the buzz word 'INCLUSIVE'.... People shouldn't be forced to make accommodations for the extreme sizes or pigmentations. Average means 'most' and its okay for people to design or produce products for the average population.
@@knitcalifornia I didn't expect you too. My opinion is based on 35+yrs of knitting. I had to teach myself how to shape garments for people with eating disorders. (TINY & THICK) I've learned some designers aren't capable of truly custom designs of ALL body sizes. Just like you can't do everything... you shouldn't expect others to be capable of creating everything..... for everyone at all times. Very thin people's body shape and mass is completely different than very thick people's body shape and mass..... Same for the average body shape/mass. When we accept designers for what they are capable of (their strengths), we as knitters, receive better patterns. There are designers that focus on creating garments for the thicker people(which is NOT inclusive, because its just for a certain size group)... and their beautiful curves. Its a specialty. Those garments actually fit the person and doesn't just hang of their body like a shapeless bag with arm holes. The goal for knitted garments is be flattering. Many "Inclusive" patterns just hang off the chest or hang off the abdomen.... or are to tight. Using Buzz-Words and ideas isn't for the creative soul. Try thinking about the middle ground and accepting people for their strengths.... not the SJW ideas.
I really enjoy this type of video and your honest appraisals. Yume by Isabelle Kramer looks interesting, too. I own the pattern, but haven’t knitted it yet. 🧶
