Seeing Patti, Sarah and Nona together again is a thrill. Not once did Patti walk further away from the other two during the reunion. Patti was always the star but treated her group with respect, courtesy and love. She never disrespected them unlike Diana (and Gordy) who treated Flo and Mary (and later Cindy) cruelly as if they were nothing but flotsam and jetsam. The Motown reunion of the Supremes was a disaster because of Ross's insatiable need for grandstanding. Patti is a star but never forgot where she came from. Bless them all.
hey, when I saw Sarah and Nona stroll out there, I thought I saw the face of GOD...because it was unexpected. The show was a Patti tribute. But we didnt see the reunion coming. RIP, Mrs Sarah Dash....your passing is a BIG one. And I think I speak for all of us LaBelle fans, when I say you are irreplaceable. And Im so glad I lived in the era that saw the first day of LaBelle's existence to the last in 1976. Rest in power, Queen..
Beautifully stated Laurence , so absolutely true,, I was and still am a hard core LaBelle fan along with everyone else in my hometown of Kansas City Missouri! These goddesses elicited such excitement with their live performances their Superb vocals and their ability to just set the stage on fire and bring us right along with them. What a gift they were to us their adoring audiences! I like you, I am so grateful that I was there When they burst into our lives and when they decided to leave us in 1976! Sarah Dash’s passing was a huge blow for me.I doubt that I will ever get over it, but I pray that I may get used to it. Anyway just wanted you to know that your comment really hit home for me. Labelle Forever!!!
@martyn lewis , I Live In The Greater Kansas City, Missouri Are. When Were They In KC? I Am SOOOOO Sorry. I Missed Them!💔 I Moved Here From New Jersey In 1986. Thank You For Your Enlightened Comment. You And Your Family Be Abundantly Blessed.🌹🙏🌹
Played hookey in the 1960s, several times, with my friends to see them at the”Harlem’s” Apollo! Two years ago, my husband and I saw Nona at the Beacon Theater, she looks the same, sounds the same! When I was in my twenties in the 1970s, I saw here at Bloomingdale’s in Manhattan. I started hyperventilating I was so floored by her impeccable style and beauty.
Ohh No... I did Not know that Sarah Dash Transitioned. 😮😢. Back in 1975, All the Ladies appeared to be on the Same Level: Sarah, Nona, and Patti. . . Lady Marmalade was #1 in our Neighborhood. Sarah could Always Sing and was a Powerhouse, even in this Reunion ❤❤❤. ALL Sisters, ALL Equal, ALL Respected! None Above the Other... Equal in the Sight of the Lord and Equal in my Sight, as well. When you Start as a Group - you End as a Group! That was an Excellent Acknowledgement you Gave to "LaBelle," and Dedication... One can tell you are a "TRUE Fan!❤❤
Patti described them as a group of 3 lead songers who all sang out as leads at the same time, even as they harmonized or sang in unison...it was the secret to their excellence.
@@COMPACTTVHD They probably do now. But back in the day, the "average" Black/Latino person (generally speaking) were not attending those after-hours underground clubs like the Catacombs in Philly, O'Dells in B-More, Paradise Garage, or the Loft, Buttermilk Bottom or Better Days in NYC or Docks in Newark or even Club Zanzibar to some extent. Remember there was no cellphone, no internet, they didn't advertise on TV, it was really word-of-mouth or you had to know someone who was connected to that scene. The reaction to music and the dance in those clubs to these "types" of classic R&B songs is very, very different. more uninhibited, free...almost like a black Pentecostal Holiness expression. btw, I started the thread. CF.
This was a great album from these ladies. Their last one together. Nona is still sassy, sexy, sleek, love her. Ms Dash (R.I.P), vocal dyamic. Ms. Labelle God Sister of Soul. Three ladies of Funky and R&B.
We should lobby TV-1 and ask that they profile Labelle on an Unsubg episode. Sarah is gone and Cindy too ill to be interviewed, but collectively Patti and Nona can tell their story. . .
It had to be some one from out of space. The Women were ahead of what's happening 2 day! I can still hear the words "What can I do for you what can you do for me?" I can hear it in my head without the music! Oh what a Powerful sung that was & still is everytime
This is one of the most powerful trios of women vocalists on the planet and Ms Sarah Dash, rest in power in the Lord's arms the choir of angels has a dynamic addition to the praises of God ❤️🙏🏽
You know that's a really a good question.? God know they do deserve it they were among some of the best girl groups of all times they pave the way for the En Vogue,.SWV,.TLC ,.Brownstone,.Salt and Pepper and just so many many more young ladies to become great at what they do. I guess one day someone will give them this Honor that they so deserve but l just hope it's before it is too late.! Thanks P.S.Ms. Sarah Dash of Patti La Bell and the Blue Bells,..she has passed Away it’s such a shame the a lot of the Great Performers be honored when they pass away and the once that were Lucky Enough To Be Presents and Alive there to receive the Award or Honor Themselves. May she Rest In Peace and my condolences 💐 to her Family and close Friends my Prayers go out Amen 🙏🏽
Too bad Cindy Birdsong could not have been apart of this reunion even though she left the group to join the Supremes. I recall the song they all sang entitled "I'm Still Waiting". I still have the memories of that song from the late 60' s. A beautiful Ballard of the 4 voices.😀
Babeeeeeee from when they hit the scene in the late 50s, evolved in the 60s and went higher in the 70s, Babeeeeeee they put all other female groups to shame when it came to presence, stage presence, vocals, records and audience satisfaction. All members lead singers in their right. They truly set the bar when it came to female groups.
You see the NewJack singers Mariah Carey, Brian McKnight, Musiq can't get with that FUNK! Its always that way on BET award shows. EW&F, Labelle, PFUNK etc gotta turn it out
I don't know if anyone cares...but at 2:00..that's former Light Heavyweight champion and former heavyweight champion Michael Spinks behind Robert Johnson. Much respect to Spinks.
I have no idea who or why the other no names came up there but the labells brought me back to great days in the disco. Patti Labelle, Thelma Houston , it goes on in 70s .
She left the group in 1967 to replace Florence Ballard in The Supremes. Cindy left The Supremes in 1972 when she was pregnant, returned in 1973,retired in February 1976 and went solo.
@@k.n.carter8089 Technically Cindy didn't have any career with LaBelle. She abandoned the group before LaBelle was formed. Cindy was a Bluebell. After she left they revamped the group into LaBelle. Frankly I don't think she would have fit in LaBelle as their look and sound was completely different from the Bluebells.
Y’all have more compassion on animals than African Americans…Nona you’re absolutely beautiful Love! Go hate off the others supporting “animal cruelty”…..
