I met Patti when I worked at a club where she performed at a club in Chicago. She shyly asked for a cup of black coffee. After I gave it to her she said thank you and stepped back into the shadows quietly and just kind of disappeared. An hour later she was on stage and was amazing. I had met many very famous musicians but none were as humble as she. Many thanks for posting this!!

One thing I find amazing is there is little to no reverb on her mic. Rare to never do you hear singers not using good amounts of reverb. It enhances their voices. Patti doesn’t need any help at all!!!!

Very cool story, and a classic song. I first heard it when Patti opened for the Rolling Stones in the Spring of 78. (They were playing stadiums, but played a couple of shows in small venues. This was at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, which holds about 4,900). My reaction was, *WOW*, what a great song. I don't believe Bruce ever released a studio version of Because the Night, but he played it at many of the 1978 "Darkness on the Edge of Town" tour shows, and plays it occasionally, still. I first experienced it, coincidentally, at his show at the same Fox Theater on September 30. I also heard it at Winterland in San Francisco on December 15, 1978, with about 5,000 others who were packed in.
