Redwings fan here, i always stay up late to watch the yotes. They skate hard, they care and their games are wild AF. They have an amazing roster of prospects 24 years of age and younger.
Biz, most often I scream at my TV in opposition of your opinions and analysis. However, you are spot on here and what a class act this was talking about this organization. I have new found respect for you today. As far as hockey in the desert, it belongs there as much as it does in South Florida for my Panthers. And for that matter, as much as it belongs in Toronto or Montreal. If we are all true fans of the game, we want to see the fan base grow and flourish. I hope Arizona one day gets another team. Moreover, I hope the NHL holds owners more accountable in the future. What happened in Arizona and Atlanta a few years back was due to poor ownership and at the cost of players and fans alike. Thanks again Biz, this needed to be said.
I don't think anyone is cheering for people losing their team, they're cheering because the piece of shit owner finally got overruled, and at least for now, lost his privileges to own an NHL franchise. I'd say most, if not all, feel terrible for the fans that have been screwed for nearly a quarter of a century.
@@bofafn No Phoenix was a better location, it's just the ownership was atrocious and slowly killed the franchise forcing them to move to Utah. Phoenix is one of the largest cities in the US and believe it or not they had a big market, they just never had a good arena, were very poorly managed, and frequently missed the playoffs.
Redwings fan here! I’ve always respected the Coyotes and cheered for them as an under dog team. I hope the best works out for the coyotes and their fan base!
What the fuck are you talking about? Any teams to survive needs 18,000 maybe 17,000 a game they have had under 13,000 fans for 30 years. What fans are you talking about? There’s major junior teams in Quebec that average more fans per game.
Cut the crap. It's a GREAT day for hockey. Should've been done a decade ago at least. They couldn't fill a 5000 seat rink - with a winning record until game 40! Many nights, even against Canadian teams that brought the snowbirds out, they barely got 3000 fans. If the fans were so loyal and legion, why did the team move twice before ending up in that rink where they played second fiddle to the college team? Thank God for the voters of Tempe, the mayor of Scottsdale and Smith for finally, FINALLY, putting an end to the most embarrassing, Mickey Mouse league stubbornness and ongoing waste of other owners' money to keep a team on life support in the history of pro sports.
@@davedavid427 well said, buddy could not agree more. They also got kicked out of an arena for not paying their taxes and shared an arena with the Phoenix Suns, but got kicked out for also not paying their taxes.
@@user-zk8gy6iv7z And now I'm hearing they hadn't paid hotel bills and the hotels were going to ask them to pay to pay in advance for next season. Let's also take a moment to remember John Chayka's private combine hijinks, also one of the more ridiculous recent front office blunders in sports. Dude was considered a whiz kid GM and he'll never work in pro sports again. It seems to me you can't fly "at least 20 CHL players" (per TSN's Dreger) down from Canada mid-season and run physical tests without Meruelo's approval - and that's why they lost 1st and 2nd round picks. Fucking clown show.
@@davedavid427 insanity man. Pisses me off the rich clubs had to fork up loot for 30 years to keep this dumpshow around. I’m happy for clayton keller he is nasty and is probably stoked about the move lol
@chanthaburigems money, too ownership was having financial problems and they had a strained relationship with the city of St. John's, namely the incident where the team got locked out of the arena for 6 games, the city ended up paying them compensation for that. I think ownership may have been the biggest issue actually, they owned 2 teams in the league and the other one was having trouble too.
@scottstenlund433a big reason behind that though is how it was handled out there . Shit owners who made awful decisions aren’t gonna build excited fanbases . This happens in every single city. When teams struggle or when franchises are mishandled attendance struggles. Phoenix is a massive metro area and one of the fastest growing areas in the US. There’s massive potential there . Just was hugely mishandled by shit owners
To the asshats above... if you cant feel for the fans and people losing their jobs then truly you suck as a human being. The fact you posted what you did basically says you are already... Your parents must be proud
@scottstenlund433 Its called the edit button... FFS you all must be NPC's if you cant understand what Bizz was saying and I was commenting on. Seriously grow up and move out of your parents house already
This happened to us in Vancouver, where out of no where the Vancouver Grizzlies were taken away from us,ownership did that to us,owners came-here like he was a saviour of the franchise but all along was going to move our team,I know Grizzlies were losers, but they were our team, for any city that loses their team it’s heartbreaking,Coyotes needed a stadium near Phoenix,it’s too bad, they have great uniforms and I’m sure in a few years they would’ve competitive,,sorry this happened to you all in Arizona ,especially the fans and the staff who will not be going to Utah,I could only imagine if I worked for my fav team, the Canucks and this happened to us
They need the views so they have to make up a good headline, even though it's got no footing in reality. I also missed where this supposed choking up occurred.
ya that bothered me a lot too. i HATE when they trick u into watching a vid and then realizing they lied to u. I feel like they i've been tricked. But then again, i can see why, cuz if i didn't read Biz was choked up, NO WAY i watch this vid.
Lightning fan here. I agree with Biz Nasty about hockey belonging in the desert. What's now the Footprint Center is centrally located, but it doesn't work for hockey due to being built with only basketball in mind. What's now Desert Diamond Arena is hockey-friendly, but it's not even close to being centrally located. I'm not crazy about Alex Meruelo running the new Coyotes, but I strongly believe that a franchise in the Valley of the Sun can become viable with an NHL-friendly venue that's where the hockey fans live (mainly from Phoenix on east).
@@kevinkeith3530 It's not quite as cut and dry as you're making it out to be. With such a tiny arena, the only way the Coyotes were gonna be able to make money was with high ticket prices. The Coyotes had to contribute a certain amount of money to revenue sharing, so that system helped contribute to the ticket prices being what they were at the Mullet. Also, the Coyotes weren't even close to the playoffs in the regular season's final weeks and not many people are gonna pay premium prices for a bad product. The attendance numbers would've been much better even with that kind of team in a proper arena anywhere in the Valley from Phoenix on east.
As a lifelong resident of greater Hartford, moving a team does not diminish your love for the game. The teams are forever intertwined in the fabric of our city. They are a part of our identity. They hold the hope that the world’s greatest league will one day return to our city and the Brass Bonanza will make our hearts swell.
As a former Thrasher fan, I understand what the Coyote fans are going through. It sucks! I hope you get another chance at having a team, and bravo Biz! You are a fan favorite because of your honesty passion! The league needs to do more to support franchises in new markets. If you want to grow a garden, you don’t throw plants or seeds in a pot and tell them to figure it out, you have to water, fertilize, and nurture that garden till it produces the results you need.
I watched the game on TV, although I am not an Arizona fan (Habs fan here). I also had tears as I was upset for the players, staff and fans. I had seen Coyotes play back in September when they visited Melbourne with the LA Kings for the two pre-season games (only just over one hour flight from my home city of Sydney). Their former owners really sucked for the way they treated the players, staff and fans. Respect to the ones who were truly behind their team and no respect whatsoever to those owners.
Now the people of Arizona know how the people of Winnipeg felt ! There is hope. In 20 years you can get another franchise. ( Sorry Atlanta is fresh out of hockey teams ) another decade to build a cup contender
It's always a shame when a team leaves its fans behind. The yotes had a bright future. Also, thanks for beating the oilers and overtaking the habs for the lottery ;)
The Coyotes have always sucked, and to all the “fans” saying long live the Yotes and that “hockey belongs in the desert” are probably the fans who would never go ACTUALLY support their team. “Being out of the way” is zero excuse. Ya’ll are the reason why you’re losing your team. You never showed up. You never gave a shit. You’re only sad because YOUR ACTIONS and terrible support are the reasons why they are going to Utah. At least the people of Salt Lake City will actually go to a game.
writing was on the wall as soon as they moved into Mullet... having a professional team play in a college rink is a really bad optical for any newbies tuning in
Yep. And with no plan for a new arena to be built. It would have been one thing had the construction started on the new arena prior to them coming to the Mullet Arena.
@@MrHunterbgFor sure. Notre Dame, IN (my local area) hosts the Blackhawks training camp, it’s likely very comparative to what Mullet is like. The Compton is packed to 5k attendance; but tbf it’s a college rink (like the Yotes). It really falls on the ownership. Arizona is a wayyy larger hockey hotbed than Northern Indiana; yet the way each has marketed/managed has resulted in drastically different outcomes. If the Yotes never moved into Mullet, I believe we wouldn’t be facing the relocation of the team. Ultimately, I’m just sorry for the fans who lost a part of their weekly joy
@@EL1TESHARKAgreed, this falls entirely on ownership. The Coyotes only moved to Mullet Arena because their POS owner didn’t want to pay the city rent in their previous arena. Even after they moved to Mullet: he didn’t want to pay the new city for 30 years if he got the landfill plot back in the summer, and he still didn’t pay team expenses throughout the season. If Meruelo simply pays rent for the Gila River Arena while waiting to build a new place, none of this would happen.
If things don’t change in Canada 🇨🇦 we’ll be hearing more speeches like this about the Canadians, Oilers and the other 5 great franchises in the great white north. Business is not what it used to be thanks to the Prime Minister’s totalitarian ways. Please help the great Canadian nation get back to normal. God bless Canada 🇨🇦 and all the normal citizens being effected by this craziness 😢
As a rangers fan I rarely agree with biz but yes it's great to see the passionate fans in arizona get praise, there might not be many of them but they stuck by a mediocre franchise through its ups and downs and didnt abandon them. It seems like a great move to move to another area but it sucks that those who I just mentioned that didnt abandon such a mediocre franchise even at its worst but the franchise abandoned them. I can understand how that would be a slap in the face. On the other hand it was clear it wasnt going to work out there was just too many factors for a while that was making this inevitable. Still sucks for those who supported the franchise.
The current owner of the Yotes should never be allowed to have another major sports franchise again, EVER!!! Most, if not all of Leaf Nation is feeling the pain of the fans and employees that are losing a piece of their lives. Hockey does work in the desert, this owner should not be allowed to be anywhere near the future team.
Bruins fan here, hockey does belong in the desert. It isn't fair that a city loses a team. There are passionate sports fans everywhere, no matter what sport you watch. Hopefully they bring hockey back to Arizona. True sports teams never die
I'm just failing to understand why they didn't? They were in a 5k stadium and couldn't sell it out. Im genuinely curious why, they've always had attendance issues
Good riddance Arizona. Canada and the northern states are where the true hockey fans are. Some of these southern markets sell tickets for 5 bucks and people still don't wanna go. Let's start living in reality
The team was playing well in the first half when they couldn't sell 5k seats, too! And why did they move twice before ending up in that 5k rink if the fans were so great?!
They had almost 30 years to get it right…. And they couldn’t stabilize ownership or even a place to play. Winnipeg has had a season and a half of a lack of sellouts and they are threatening to potentially move that team. Give me a break.
You’re the best Biz! We love you in AZ. I hope you can raise some money and figure out how to bring it back here buddy, nobody is going to let Murelos build anything here
The Biz is the business for me. I haven't been able to watch hockey, especially after what THEY did to Don Cherry. The panels used in hockey during broadcasts lack everything missing from the sport. The chicklets boys represent all that's missing.
As a Tampa fan I can’t say I feel y’all’s pain, but what I will say is that this can happen to any franchise and something needs to be done to protect the communities that these clubs represent, it just simply isn’t acceptable in my eyes to dangle the carrot in front of the horse for decades and then just all the team to relocate like you’re moving a franchise store. People make careers off these teams, they make lifetime friends, family, and memories. To just rip that all away because an owner could make a profit is gross and quite frankly should not be allowed to happen. Lastly for the fans saying things like ‘Arizona isn’t a hockey market, or they donut deserve a team they’re fair-weather fans’ that’s all well and good until your stadium is no longer safe, or the owner of the building decides it would be better financially to build condos, or any other number of reasons why a team would be forced to move out as unlikely as it is. The reality is no fan base should have to go through this.
I can only imagine being just good enough like paul and living yousr childhood dream and having the team that gambled on u and said ur good enough, now there gone. Sucks. Always felt bad for coyotes. Ownership problems
It always sux when a team leaves town. I remember when the Sonics left Seattle and ownership lied about not selling it to an "out of towner". The owner was behind a legislative bill that would have given an extra $90 million in taxpayers monies for an arena remodel spent on parking and consession's whole only adding 600 fan seats. When the bill was voted down the owner got mad and started lying to the city. When I hear Paul speak those feeling come back. Sorry for you Arizona..
