Man, this interview/conversation is amazing. Heyman is such a great storyteller. I never heard a longform interview with him before, I’ve only ever seen him play the character on TV and I can see why he’s so damn good at it. Amazing speaker. Can really paint a picture with his words. I know his father was a litigator, but Paul would’ve and could still make an all time great one should he choose a career change lol. Great episode. I think I need to hear Heyman on more podcasts!

Brock ending the Streak was the right booking, you can't convince me otherwise. Had Taker retired after the last HHH Match at 28 he would have been fine, but once they continued it the Streak had to end.
@Fantasyremix
@Fantasyremix Год назад
I don't think the streak should have ever ended, but it would have been more well-received at the time if Taker hadn't been concussed in the match, which really hampered things.

@@Fantasyremixtrue, the streak ending match should have been a retirement level match, which Brock and Undertaker could make, but that WrestleMania match not it.

Return on investment makes no sense for killing the streak in fact it is the opposite . No extra tickets were bought AFTER brock wins , known as streak killer. But you can GUARANTEE that people would buy tickets for wrestlemania for the SOLE purpose of seeing Undertaker on that card. It is business killing .
@Fantasyremix
@Fantasyremix Год назад
The logic is it builds up Brock's box office attraction, but I agree, there's so much cache in keeping the streak going that I would have never ended it. Tie goes to the storybooking ending.

I’m sorry but there were a few guys (confirmed from couple sources) that were pitched a win over Taker at Mania but THEY ALL DECLINED THAT WIN.. that is what You call heart for the business and seeing the bigger picture than just putting Your own ass over (while being already over at the time).. and that win was supposed to put Brock over what? HE WAS ALREADY OVER AND DIDNT NEED THAT.. it was Paul’s and Brock’s more zeros and sorry but Brock did say what He thinks perfectly about Wrestling vs UFC/ MMA in interview.. one thing was truth that Paul said is Brock was able to do anything which is being spoiled, don’t give a damn and do what He wants, goes out and come back whenever He wants.. and Brock wanted that one for Himself and if Paul putted that into His head -probably, and by Paul’s definition of what’s next for Brock after that one win- that’s the biggest crap and delusion I’ve heard in a while..ONE in the next Mania doesn’t go over that 21 already gained, One is nothing more than being a point of possibility of doing whatever they wanted without having consequences.. but to Taker that one input is burning and spitting on a legacy of a legit giving to the business and others, disrespecting the locker room leader taking the one thing that a man worked for for years and years inside the ring and out (keeping kayfabe in public as one of not many at the time) that He earned to keep for life till and after retirement.. Taker said He was going to that Mania thinking He’s gonna win and doesn’t remember that night by His own, permanent amnesia because Some big ego untitled BULLY GAVE HIM A FREAKIN CONCUSSION
@ryanregan00
@ryanregan00 Год назад
John Cena already talked about how Undertaker was already good with Brock beating him at WM30. Undertaker looked to Brock as the only worthy person to beat the streak. Having Brock squash John Cena was an extension of that storyline for Brock. It made Brock the attraction that rivaled the Undertaker. Who beats the Unbeatable? Ending the streak wasnt to put someone over. Its that guy (Brock) putting over the next guy(s). Undertaker had to retire eventually. Mark Calloway does not view The Undertakers streak as special. Vince and the fans made it the thing it was. Mark Calloway is all about integrity of the business. Who better to put over than the legit UFC former champion, the beast?! I am not saying you are wrong, I am saying there is another perspective when you take your emotions out of the discussion.

And Roman.. I’m not gonna start on that cuz it’s def gonna be long if I switch myself on but Roman is not the greatest- He’s a mid talent with family ties that putted Him over and over pushed because of His family NOT his own talent..He wasn’t even over with the crowd until announcing He has leukemia, which He did in a ring like a promo - and that can an argument that it was storyline to get people to like Him and spark that sympathy from fans (cuz after making people “aware” of it only a twisted and emotionless bi***would Boo Him). Roman did not revolutionize the game (the cinematic aspects were basics taken from Bray Wyatt’s book), can’t win to retain with any challenger if He doesn’t have help, should even get the universal title due to not singing the papers for the match (which equals quitting the anticipation in it not holding on to it like a money in the bank briefcase, course contracts signing doesn’t work that way that you can just through it in whenever and over all He never pinned the champion at that time but another challenger like He was.. the Rock came back and practically gave him a spot in Wrestlemania for the other title, I mean even the bloodline as a story wasn’t His original and self thought of idea but taken from another brother vs brother and afterwards creating “brotherhood” tag team (-that was over and most talked of in wrestling universe in general), and the fact that he wrestlers less than the minimum required to not having to give it back up- He made those titles into a joke without respect and also like spitting into the face of every talent that keeps this company moving forward by putting on the show everyday not only on televised show and PPVs and what’s more He’s Pierce (including His own family) that left their blood, health and even a literal last breath inside the ropes for Him to have a run and future in this..
