This is Paul being thankful for his wife, Linda, helping him in the aftermath of The Beatles breaking up. He'd been with those guys since he was young and went through incredibly life changing times with them, so it was emotionally devestating for him. Linda was his rock, got him through it and was a member of Wings with him. A true life partner.

This is such a masterpiece. Not a sappy love song but one with real energy and passion.

Paul played all the instruments on this one. While great, the definitive version is the live one with Wings that they play on all the classic rock radio stations. it's longer, stronger, and has a real, definitive ending.

ABSOLUTELY, the ending is better and Paul sings SO MUCH MORE PASSIONATELY on the LIVE version from 1976

That "one sound" you was curious about was an electric guitar, just mute the strings with your fretting hand and strike the strings rhythmically with you picking hand . Try it, it's a lot of fun! This song is a mega classic!

What's amazing to me is that this song has popped into my head multiple times this past week. I'm so glad you reacted to it. It was well known back in the 70's and 80's that Paul and his wife had the Love of a Lifetime. It always was uplifting seeing the two of them on tv. It was so heartbreaking when Linda lost her fight with cancer. Rest well Linda. Such a beautiful song.

Paul's vocals are amazing on this track, and so is all of the instrumentation. It does sound very crisp. I don't really know much of Paul's work past his first album, but one of the few songs I do know is "Coming Up", which is the song that inspired John Lennon to return to making music.

Love all of Paul's work with the Beatles & solo with Wings. I had so many of his records. He has so many great songs such as "Band On The Run", "Jet", Live & Let Die", "Listen To What The Man Said", "Silly Love Songs", "Let 'Em In", "My Love", "Helen Wheels", "Let Me Roll It", "Junior's Farm", "Venus & Mars/Rock Show", "Mull Of Kintyre", "With A Little Luck" etc.

All of the Beatles wrote some great songs and had some hits but Lennon and McCartney wrote the vast majority of them. And yeah Paul is great at love songs and in fact he had a huge hit with wings called Silly Love Songs. But he does have other sides to him, checkout Helter Skelter, which many consider to be a precursor to heavy metal. Check out Long Tall Sally by the early Beatles featuring McCartney on lead vocals. You can hear him when he's young just really let it rip.

This is one of his greatest songs. When he writes like this, with all the twists and turns and ear candy, I have to give it up for him. When he writes more predictably and/or sappy stuff, I tune out. But this is what he was born to do.

Another classic love song written for Paul's beloved wife Linda. Of all the Beatles, I always felt that Paul was the most grounded with his loving family. What a good man he has consistantly shown himself to be. To this day, with all the music over the decades, Beatles are still my favorite band. Your first love is the best, right? All of the Beatle music - together or separately is timeless.

This song is on Paul's debut solo album, released on 17 April 1970 by Apple Records. McCartney recorded it in secrecy, mostly using basic (old at the time) home-recording equipment at his St John's Wood house. He played and overdubbed all the instruments, drums, guitar, bass etc. It's an outstanding record, considering he did it that way.

That sound is the raking of a guitar pick across the strings that are all muted with the palm of his left hand (Paul is left handed and strums with his left, and frets the neck with his right). He is just going "chicka chicka" on strings not allowed to ring out.

Paul McCartney is playing the piano, the bass, the drums, and the guitar. Out of most of the Beatles hits, I think John Lennon had a couple more than Paul, mostly earlier, Paul dominated later. Literally, the split is like 140 Lennon hits, and 138 McCartney hits and about 10 Harrison chart toppers. Paul did all the instruments on McCartney, McCartney II, and McCartney III, and Ram. He used a multitrack recorder and just recorded each instrument individually.

I agree with you, Paul was the Beatle who had music in his blood. John, George, Ringo, their love of music could be diverted by other interests, but not so much with Sir Paul. Paul's 1971 album "Ram" is my favorite, every song a gem.

To answer your question about the Beatles: not all lists agree, because of different international charts and different interpretations of who wrote what, but in general, slightly more of the Beatles' songs were written mainly by John, but more of their #1s were written mainly by Paul.

Paul and John wrote a great many of the Beatles songs, sometimes together, sometimes apart and sometimes with the main tune coming from one and the embellishments coming from the other. There are about 200 songs in the Beatles repertoire so enjoy them when you can

You are so lucky to have the Beatles to look into and enjoy. Wish I could have all those first listens again. Most of the Beatles songs were credited to John Lennon and McCartney but often, the song was brought in by one and then worked on in rehearsal and recording. George Harrison also wrote some really beautiful songs which he was credited with although getting his music on albums was a bone of contention. Ringo wrote a few too but most of the songs were worked on by the whole band in rehearsal and recording. If you're looking for suggestions, I'd start with the early stuff and work through chronologically. Personally I think they got better as they aged but my Mum and Dad love the old stuff as they grew up with it and then saw the Beatles go "a bit wierd". Sorry, longer message than I had meant :) Good vids by the way, thanks :)

The sound was the electric guitar muting the strings with the left hand and strumming with the right, I think. The guitar is overdriven so that chunking this sounds kind of wild.

re your question...Lennon wrote a few more than McCartney in the Beatles. Although It's hard to be sure sometimes since on songs where they were both listed as writer, one or the other of them may have written Most of it.
