This was a cute, light hearted performance in honor of Frank Loesser's music. Anyone who can't stand to see Paul sing anything but Beatles music, you're taking this way too seriously.
Don't pay any attention to Clare; she hasn't gotten any in a long time. McCartney, as a songwriter himself, has great respect for the work of Frank Loesser and it shows in his performance.
The great thing about this performance is that it breaks down the divide that happened with the dawning of rock 'n' roll which unhappily seperated the great geniuses of songwriting like Berlin, Porter, Kern, Rodgers, Gershwin and, of course, the wonderful Frank Loesser from the beat merchants of Chuck Berry, Little Richard et al. Paul is in both camps producing a beauty like Here There and Everywhere and a beat classic like I Saw Her Standing There. Paul knows those old guys were truly great.
I couldn't agree more. Sir Paul always showed an appreciation and even reverence for the songs of the older era, and showed it in many of his masterpieces (e.g. "When I'm Sixty-four"). He manages to be at ease in either era, and it's wonderful to see him display that. Grand Prize.
I think it's neat he did this great older tune, there are so many good ones and I'm sure he gets tired of the same old same old. I loved it, so cute of him.
Really nice - I guess this was a dream coming true for him being on Broadway. Well, to me he hasn´t got anything to prove- he´s the best! I think he deserves a nice family life now and some happiness. In Europe please.
A bunch of us from around the world were reminiscing, a moment ago at BERMUDA DAYDREAMIN,' about the days of “smaller cruise ships.” I shared Jimmy Buffett's over-the-top rendition of “(I'd Like to Get You) On a Slow Boat to China.” Immediately, the intuitive genius that is RU-vid gave us THIS gem, I've never seen before, have you? Sir Paul, remembering his family's “New Year's eve sing-alongs, with my Dad playin' the piano - my aunties and uncles singing them. Right now I'd like to do one of those songs for you,” Frank (Guys & Dolls) Loesser's SLOW BOAT TO CHINA. Don't miss Paul's word's of introduction; but if you must, pick it up at around the 1:55 mark Celebrated elsewhere this day (3/12/2024) search " Great Melody, Great Lyric, Great Rendition, Songwriting Workshop, Harmony Central "
@joedee1957 You are so right. Why the Beatles were the greatest group of all time is because they absorbed everything, they didn't think oh we're only rock'n'roll..they had no problem playing Till There Was You and their playing, with George particularly brilliant on guitar for that song, produced the best ever version of that show song. Till There Was You was written by Meredith Willson a protege of Loesser and was published by Frank Music, Loesser's company, now owned by Paul! All true greats.
McCartney can no longer sing many of his old songs for example the classic Maybe I'm Amazed because his vocal range has drastically reduced over the years, however no one can write a song like him that talent he will never lose.
"do you know Slow Boat to China?...Slow Boat to China...its in BFlat - do ya know it?" hahahaha i dont know i laughed so much in that part - also the ending was such adorable Paul: "get me, im on braodway!"
i was searching for a version of slow boat to china.. still havent found it. mel torme and a woman? anyways. this is amazing! good upload .. new paul. he's a legend
Oh shit you guys are everywhere. You know, you should really consider getting a life and stop spreading false rumors about Paul. you're not a beatle fan. You're just a nutjob who believes in a fake ass conspiracy theory. No disrespect sir. But You can do so much better than this. There's billions of proof that disclaim your claim.
For fucks sake brian, paul was not replaced nor he died in a car crash. Even if he did die in that supposed car crash don't you think we would've known by now? Paul was pretty fucking famous back in the 60s. He was the cute beatle, the most talented beatle. And if he died believe john would've talked. I refuse to believe john would have kept quiet about his best friend dead but mostly I refuse to believe that paul's dead and the rest of his family went along with it. If I was Jim and my son died in a car crash I would want the world to hear the truth. There's a billions reasons why paul couldn't be replaced, I'm not gonna list them all of course. Here let me put it this way. (1 paul's family. Paul was raised by the most part by his father since his mom died when he was just a little kid. And According to Mike (his brother) they were very close so I'm pretty sure Jim would've talked. (2 his girlfriend: at the time of his supposed death Paul was in a relationship with actress jane Asher. Now, jane knew paul very well. She knew what he looked and sounded like. So if Paul was replaced by a lookalike don't you think jane would've noticed the differences between Paul and the lookalike most importantly don't you think she would've talked? That should be enough to debunk that silly theory.
@@yes2day100 Dean invited you to have fun with him, whenever he could add something else to his singing. He had a velvet and manly voice that turned every song into a unique one.
Paul is my hero and cannot do anything wrong ! BUT without a Bass or any instrument he did seem a tad nervous ! But good job anyway ! Again I salute you Sir Paul !
Yeah, that's a pet peeve of mine as well. I would like to see, just once, the host say,"He(or she) needs no introduction.." and immediately drop the mic and walk off the stage. If such a video exists on RU-vid, please let me know !
He has been sounding like this since the late 90s. He should really stop touring and give his voice a rest. He has been singing since the early 60s, if he was to retire i personally would not complain. And I do not mean that in a bad way. What I'm saying is I truly appreciate his love for music but he's almost 80 and can't hit the high notes like he used to. He should Really think about retiring.
Did Dean Martin sing rock'n roll? Or folk rock? Or blues? Well, Paul sang all those plus he does this jazz song, too. Maybe Dean did jazz better, but he certainly could not have sung the other types of songs. And Dean Martin made fun of the song. Sammy Davis did it better, as did Ella Fitzgerald.
