It's so easy to forget (or even never learn in the first place) that the famous men from the Revolution had lives and skills that were wholly separate from war and governance.
What was also very interesting is Paul revere's father was a Huguenot, the Protestants who were hunted down by the french. He emigrated to America. Huguenots are widely known as some of the best silversmiths, so the french spite themselves by giving America and Britain some of the best silversmiths when they fled from france
Not to split hairs, but the poem's title is "Paul Revere’s Ride." The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere is a 1931 painting by the American artist Grant Wood :-).
I read somewhere Paul Revere marked some of his work with a rabbit I saw a silver bowl decorated with the old 13star flag among other things. My buddy loved metal detecting he was the one who found it. He was also a hoarder and a schitsophrenic sorry about the spelling. When I found out about the marking I tried telling him but he passed away I would love to know if that was "thee silver bowl.
Forensource I don’t think she did. Based on her comments I think she just hadn’t made the connection to “Paul” Revere, especially since it doesn’t appear she thought it was old enough to be from the colonial period - that info came from the expert during the appraisal.
Revere marks are frequently forged. I would be skeptical of anything with one that didn't come from an extremely reputable dealer. I suspect she knows that.
Why do you think so? Its theirs to enjoy. Every work of art does not automatically become sonething that must be shared with everyone. It is rather selfish of you to presume that they should put it where you could see it.
I don't know a great deal about American history.. Was Paul revere the guy on the oss that rode into town shouting the English are coming?... If I'm right it's only cos I saw that on Bewitched
Someone, somewhere probably has a top missing the bottom. If to ever sell, 2 people with each piece would double the money or more together. Just a thought
First off it's tough to tell if it's real or not...that's why you take it to an expert. Then it's tough to tell if everything is intact or something was replaced or is missing.
google is awesome if you know what your looking for. i'll bet if you googled "silver sugar bowl" you would get 10,000 images! markings can be forged and it takes an expert to know the difference.
some info that you might not know. Paul Revere was a silver smith, but he wasn't a great silversmith. Most of his stuff is valuable due to his name and history, not the quality of Paul Revere. Paul Revere SR, his dad, was the better silversmith and did better work and his work is just as valuable due to the quality, not Paul jr. being famous. Much of this silverwork you need of course to make sure what was done by Paul, and what was done by Paul Sr, his dad. Both equally valuable, but each has their own brandwork so you can tell who did what.
it all depends! if it's a replica, of an original, made in later years by the original company and marked as such and it has the same workmanship, it will have much more value then a forgery or a later copy! Nothing has more value, then a the one that was created by the original craftier.
Do they still teach that Paul Revere poem in elementary school? Had it drummed in to my head 2nd or 3rd grade and still remember it. If not then it’s an abomination...current teachers unions are destroying the teaching of our American history in schools.
Sadly, public schools are going full blown 1619 project, claiming whites and especially our founders brought slaves to America and slaughtered all the Native Americans. It's sick how communists have infiltrated and infested public schools and government in order to rewrite history.
Now here's a little story I've got to tell About three bad brothers you know so well It started way back in history With Adrock, MCA and me, Mike D I had a little horse named Paul Revere Just me and my horsy and a quart of beer Riding across the land, kicking up sand Sheriff's posse's on my tail 'cause I'm in demand One lonely Beastie I be All by myself without nobody The sun is beating down on my baseball hat The air is gettin' hot the beer is getting flat Lookin' for a girl I ran into a guy His name is MCA, I said, "Howdy" he said, "Hi"
He told a little story that sounded well rehearsed Four days on the run and that he's dying of thirst The brew was in my hand and he was on my tip His voice was hoarse, his throat was dry, and he asked me for a sip He said, "Can I get some?" I said, you can't get none Had a chance to run He pulled out his shotgun Quick on the draw, I thought I'd be dead He put the gun to my head and this is what he said
