From our generation, no matter what country you are from and which team you support, you definitely know the legendary Manu squad of that time. Here Scholes is one of those legends.
That goal against Barcelona in 2008. I was in a bar and I jumped out from chair to scream GOAL! The chair broke up. The bar manager almost charge me for that broken chair. Best midfielder EVER!
@@AlifianAkhmad7 haha anyway the chair was worth it. We qualified to the final beating barcelona with that beautiful goal my friend. I did not mind if I had to pay for the chair. Hahaha!
The 2nd and 13th goals are up there with George Best. Insane vision and touch. I’m no United fan, never liked Scholes much, but those goals are unbelievable.
This player could have triumphed in Spanish football, few English players have really done so, but I have no doubt that Scholes would have triumphed in any team in the world. World class player!!
Insane how good he was. He'd piss it today. Convinced he could still play looking at what's around. You've seen how Erikson has improved utd. imagine a scholsey there.
@@Tes_1 Nah, Scholes was brilliant, and United's struggles to control the midfield after he retired proved that to anyone who watched them regularly at the time. The only romanticising people do about Scholes is forgetting that he started out as an attacker, but lacking the height and pace to play up front in a 4-4-2, he moved further and further back over the years as his passing, positioning and ability to control the midfield improved. He was a goal-scoring second striker, then a nr 10, then a box-to-box midfielder, before spending his 30's as a deep-lying playmaker. Central midfielders are always underrated because their greatest assets don't show up clearly in the stats the way goals and assists do, but it's the most crucial position in football, especially in today's game, and a Scholes is exactly what United have been missing ever since he left.
@@Tes_1 zidane, xavi, the other ronaldo, messi, iniesta, said he was the best most complete midfielder of his generation marcello lippi ex juve ucl winner manager said he would be the first on his team sheet mourinho said the same vieira and berkamp said the same pep said the one player he would have liked to have played with phenomenal players putting scholes ahead of themselves...
@@andyhulme2274 Scholes was better than Messi!? You are deluded. Show me the videos of them saying this. Scholes was a joke amongst the Barca players because none of them knew who he was.
the most complete midfielder of all time. he can play one touch and does feints like iniesta, long passes like pirlo, short like xavi, arriving late in the box like lampard, he scores glancing headers like tim cahill, long range screamer like gerrard. he does all of them at the highest level.
@@bighas96 Xavi was a better passer than Scholes but Scholes was better defensively, had a better weak foot, had the better goals and was all around a better player overall plus he played all around the pitch from a 2nd striker to CDM and he did it perfectly.Shame that for England he was pushed on the wing to fit Lampard and Gerrard cause those two don't fit in a team that good Scholes and Gerrard would be the best central midfield ever with Xavi and Iniesta cause Pirlo and Gattuso were a CDM combo.
The Panathinakos goal away (15) is really under appreciated. Last minute winner, perfect first touch and finish with his "weaker foot" on the turn. Not a lot of players could score that goal
He was a striker as a kid, and if he'd had either height or speed he'd probably have spent his whole career up front, since as you say he has great instincts as well as being a fantastic finisher with both feet as well as his head.
Everyone seems to talk about the second version of Scholes, the defensive midfielder from around 2005 onwards, but for me the original version, the second striker/attacking midfielder, was so much better.
Not much better, since he was a world class playmaker, just different. Which version would be better for the team depends on the other players avaliable. What would have been really interesting is seeing how many goals a tall or fast Scholes could have scored as a striker. Considering he got around 20 the one season he played regularly behind Van Nistelrooy I'm guessing it would have been quite a lot!
the current England team could do with a player like Scholes, i think he is more suited to todays football compared to the Gerards or Lampards game even-though they both would still be great players if they were playing currently
These legends of the game, in this pampered era would have shone, but not as bright. They needed Fergie's dominance to kick them into the legendary status we befit them with now. Its whats lacking in modern football. Ronaldo carries the flame of old but for how long.
It's kinda funny that he would use the outside of his right foot rather than his left, since his left foot seemed so good whenever he was forced to use it.
Look at what happened to United's performances and trophies once he retired and you'll rate him even higher. They managed a few here and there on the strength of their attacking talent, but I swear they've lost the midfield battle in 90% of their games since his retirement regardless of the opposition.
Ronaldinho's short peak because of his party lifestyle really is such a shame. The most entertaining footballer I've ever seen, and he wasted potentially 5 years of world class performances because he lacked discipline and drive. :(
You say that, but watch Crystal Palace's goals against Wolverhampton the other day and you'll see one player jogging backwards for ten seconds while his teammate doesn't notice a player running in behind him because he's too busy watching the ball which is 40 yards away. That second player was then slower to get into the penalty area than his opponent for another goal despite his opponent FALLING OVER along the way! :D
What?! There's every kind of great goal in this compilation. Long range screamers, mazy dribbles, 25 yard chips... the guy could do everything on a football pitch except tackle.
You can check out his goals for Man Utd in the League. I'd say he has the best volleying and first time shooting technique, better than Gerrard. Just watch his goals against Middlesbrough and Bradford in 1999/2000, Villa in 2006/2007 and Chelsea in 2000/2001.
What dribbling past three defenders then wrong footing the keeper and shots with the outside of his foot, chipping the keeper long range headers one two's etc... Every type of goal requires two footed skill more than can be said of the one footed players of today...
@@24sumo naah. Not even 12, I'm 5. He was not. Not even in contention for number 1. Vieira Gerrard, de Bruyne, Roy Keane, Lampard or Silva, all better than Paul Scholes.
@@alexcho3732 He is literally number 1. Never mind not in contention. I could listen to the kid who never saw them play. Or the professional footballers who all say scholes was better hmmmmm what a joke
@@24sumo the same professional player that said the same things about Lampard or Gerrard. By the way, I I am so young, how come did I mention Roy Keane, he was older than Scholes. 6th best midfielder in Premier League and Top 30 all time in Premier League. Never as vital as Keane, Beckham, Cantona, Giggs, Rooney, Ronaldo, Schmeichel, Ruud van Nistelrooy or even Ferdinand and Vidic in Manchester United's season winning teams
@@24sumo and BTW, from your responses I'd wager you were a toddler when i started watching football. Don't get me wrong, Scholes was a great player, but there were others better than him
Zidane, xavi, the other ronaldo, messi, ronaldo, berkamp, vieira mourinho, pep, lippi, pirlo, davids, all say the opposite of you and they played the game you didn't...
Stat Monkeys will never, ever appreciate just how good Paul Scholes was. Great players get record number of goals and assists and high goal involvements per 90mins. Geniuses make the game at the very highest level look simple. Paul Scholes was a genius. There is nothing he couldn't do on a football pitch. Apart from tackling maybe 🤣
I'm a stats monkey and after a deeper dive into the stats he comes out looking fantastic. Higher goals and assists per 90 than Gerrard or Lampard if you don't count penalty goals or assists from set-pieces. More short/long passes and pass completion than basically anyone not called Xavi. More tackles and interceptions per 90 than Gerrard or Lampard too.
