I've never been this happy to be trilingual, because i can fully enjoy this masterpiece thanks to it ! I'm a semi-native french speaker, and a native arabic speaker (from north africa) and we actually speak both french and arabic in one sentence, and i've never given too much thought to it, but he made some great accurate hillarious points ! We realised that if they didn't understand a word in English, especially if it was a technology or scientific type word, we'd just try it with a French accent, and more often than not it'd work! "It's a commission." "Eet ees what?" "Commission" "Quoi?" Hmmmm - let's try a French accent. "It's a Co-mis-si-yon." "Ohhhhh!

As a person who is moving to quebec to improve French, I'm upset.

When he spoke about how his wife would drop the "h" in words where there should be one and add an "h" where there shouldn't be, I was reminded of Jamaican patois. In our culture, it is very common to do the same thing in our language. So, "orange" becomes "horange" and "hungry" becomes "ungry".

Hi Paul - American daughter of a French mother and Austrian French speaking father... In the US, we have at least one London and a Paris. Two Moscows and a Budapest, Krakov, Copenhagen Athens, Dublin, Amsterdam and Berlin and Florence. And so many more than I can remember! We literally ask for the country after the city because of this. Not a joke!😂🤣

With my ex girlfriend, we've created our own British slang, she's Italian and I'm French, and we moved in the UK together for 4 years, I've stayed working there for another 2 years, until the Brexit actually. Problem is we moved in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The accent of these folks is very hard to comprehend, but after a year we had created our own slang mixing the 3 accents ! (We were using this accent only between the 2 of us to decompress). Every bilingual's got his own accent as you talked about. And I love this aspect of language's exchanges !

This guy is describing my family and my life entirely it's insane, I'm French by nationality but my dad is British and my mother is french so I learned both languages as a kid, so basically his wife is just like my mom and he is just like my dad but I have no problem with each languages

I really think you should try and do a stand up show in London, between the huge amount of french people living in London and the English people who speak French and love France they’d be a decent market for that.

Ce spectacle est l'un des meilleurs que j'ai jamais vus, le contenu est très présent, Paul Taylor est juste merveilleux, ses découvertes sur la langue française en tant qu'étranger sont juste magiques et pendant 1 heure on rigole énormément, et ça peu d'artistes arrivent à faire la même chose. Thank you very much for posting this Paul 🙏. I can SO much relate to what you're saying here. Especially the "angry /hungry" problem. I was born in England, moved to France when I was 2 and my mum's American (imagine the degree of confusion...). To this day, even though he's been immersed in English-speaking environments for almost 60 years now, my father still has problems pronouncing "hungry" (or angry) correctly, and my mom's "camembert" still sounds like "cam'n'bear". I have thousands of exemples of awkward situations and funny French-English mistakes... But the first one that comes to my mind right now is the first time I bought a Brownie in Paris : "Bonjour, je voudrais un Brownie" "Pardon ?" "Un brownie ?" "..." (regard dans le vague du vendeur) " ça !" "Ah ! Vous voulez un BrOUni !" "Euh... Oui. Voilà" And when I told this to a friend of mine, her reaction was "Rho la la ! Ça va, c'est pareil, excuses-nous de pas être né en Angleterre. Bah t'avais qu'à lui montrer avec ton doigt, tu vas pas nous chier une pendule pour un morceau de chocolat quand même !" Typical isn't it? 😁 Cheers 🍻
