Saw Paul play the 100 Club in the early 90s... had a beer with Mick Talbot who was sitting at the bar, lovely experience. Waiting for Paul to make it back to Tokyo.
He’s a true music fan. But I’m ow convinced almost everything he’s done except Going underground and stone rifles is ripped off. For instance Broken Stones is just Oh Happy Day recycled .
Saw weller 6 years back dross in a rut with bad moves. Dont use guitarists from second rate bands .drummings not hard. Gig was dread yuk .pauls fans seem to eh nkt really know why they are there football guys pretend plastic mods .i never listen to paul now songs are rubbish . 3rd song heres just blondie one way or another. Lost his greatness
IMO 2000-2008 is Weller’s worst period. There were some good songs but a lot felt stodgy and uninspiring. The stuff he’s done since 22 Dreams has overall been of a high standard.
I really like "As is Now", the production has a unique punch, but other than that I agree. "22 Dreams" was the last great album and I think his releases after "Wake Up the Nation" are uninspired. "Wake Up..." is not bad but it is very naive.
