It was the same thing with Oasis... what astonishes me is that things like this happens in the US meanwhile Bruce Springsteen, for example, becomes a hit in the UK and worldwide... it shouldn't, he's trash, we already have Neil Young, Dylan... US may say that Weller is "too British" and I say Bruce is "too american", same logic.
Paul Weller is the real deal , this music is from the 80s and still sounds f in amazing,,, it's all bullshit today ,,, paul Thankyou for your great sound ,, your a master ,,
Um, excuse me... an American here. I was in graduate school when this song came out. The campus radio station played it to death, and I loved it - bought the Style Council album immediately. ...Oh, and Americans may know bugger all about music, but at least we knew Oasis were shiite the minute we heard them, so we ignored them too.
My absolut favorite song since i was a young boy. I still play that vinyl whenever i need to calm down and reflect my life. The old version is less rocking and more jazzy which touches my heart very much. Thank you Paul and the Style Council for that great work of art.
There are two old versions Sir. Original one sounds pretty much like the one Mr Weller plays here live. And there is one from Cafe Bleu that is slow and jazzy
Love this song. Weller and company again prove their badass... ness, (is that a word?!). Anyone who turns on their Crybaby wah and pulls some brass in for good measure should be properly deified. That said, I don't understand people who "thumbs-down" live music videos. They must not be musicians or understand all that goes in to playing in front of a live audience, (nerves, getting the mix right... etc).
Definitely He writes and sings like someone who is not only amazing but also has a message to deliver about an uneven society and a terrible class system. What a shame that nobody today can get a message out there with their music
@@andyinoregon indeed, I wish I had kept some of my 80s clothes 😂. Btw, that detail about remake of their own song didn’t go unnoticed, very impressive
What an incredibly beautiful live performance of the song in which I recognize a lot of myself. And what an incredibly beautiful orchestra you guys put in there. I've been a big fan of the Style Council since the early 80s. And NOW you guys are just still rock and roll. Lately I've been playing vinyl again and last year I bought your 1984 album Cafe Bleu again and this time on blue vinyl. Top notch music. Keep up the good work Paul Weller. Greetings from the Netherlands 😊😊
A great modern rendition. I have to admit that I prefer his voice when he was younger- it had a more' velvet' edge. His voice now is hardened by age and years of ciggies- there is a certain 'rock' inflection that wasn't there before - It has a lot of character and depth but as to whether he sounds better I guess is a matter of personal taste.
Wow! Always a Paul Weller fan. Great sounding live performance!!!! Funny thing, if you ever watch the original video for the song, your like, “what the heck”
Oh My God.....Mr Weller....a God. His voice is still so FUCKING SICK ARRRGH This has brought back so many amazing good memories.....thank you soooooo much for uploading .......
OK, thanks for that. I think like Oasis, they were a bit too Brit centric. Ian Dury would be a prime other example as he was Brit or even London centric on steroids!
The love after the hate The love we leave too late The love after the hate, the love we leave too late I wish we'd wake up one day, and everyone feel moved Oh but we're caught up in the dailies and an ever changing mood....❤
@JoeGancher Oh, "nice tune" huh... like oh just kinda average decent stuff change of pace from homepage junk on RU-vid, huh? ... What's with you armchair experts on everything? It;s a frikkin brilliant song, hasn't lost an ounce of its brash, harmonics & drive. But you know best, Joe. What amazes me is Paul Weller is so focused on every single thing he does; here, as though he's playing it for 1st time... Yeah, he can't hit the falsetto highs he used to sing throughout, but what you get is
First of all seen paul weller few times an seeing him live really shows how he is top shelf loved him since jam days however if u watch full convert when be says something after a track if its funnny guitarst drops 3 notes like a private joke within the band funny. Anybody else notice this? studio 150. Concert thanks uploader mr weller thank u to🙏
Every time I try to see this guy live,it somehow manages to fall through, lol. I'm not messing. Normally my shift pattern but a couple of times family or transport probs. Will get there in the end, shame about Stevie White, love that guy's style.
Easily Top 40 entire decade 1980s for me - this guy is a bundle of talent, hot in appearance as well as sound even now. He could literally kick the *ss of the so-called "talent" of today. Brilliant stuff from the good old days, sigh.

Why do I think it would be awesome if Prince covered this song? Even more so for "Walls come tumbling down". Something bout their music being mirror images of one another, complex instrumentation, poetic lyrics, and a singing style that's almost a speaking voice, then Prince throws in the funk.
