@@moibe182I was alive in the 80s and 90s when paulina was at her peak and she had more then 15 minutes....more like a top model for around 10 years. People who dont know her at all are probably to young to remember that time. Magazines were a major media in those days and you could open any magazine and paulina was modeling in them.

That already was an asshole comment, and she answered him perfectly when she replied "Human Being, dave" which to an intelligent person that means they define themselves by everything that makes THEM human which can be kindness, intelligence, interests, hobbies, etc., not JUST by their occupation, which many do and are shallow because of it. Dave didn't like her answer because he wanted to keep her in a box and insinuate she could be no greater than her profession. He kept pushing that mantra, it seemed he was very upset by her answer and said "we don't need any more humans (you)" which i felt was a grotesque and undefendable statement to say to someone. You could sense her displeasure from time to time from there out but she never became combative or insulting to dave and i greatly commend her for that. Dave is a well known misogynist and general asshole so I'm glad she was able to hold her own faced with this blowhard.

Slavic girl with a Slavic sense of humour vs American guy with a very American sense of humour. That was a delight to see. As a Slavic girl, I am proud of her. Seeing this interview after a more recent one from about a month ago.. my heart breaks for her and what she’s been through .. what she was going through at this time. “I was always seen, but never heard”.. she’s always been witty and smart. I saw her where I worked in the year 2001 with Ric Ocasek. She was looking at tile samples. She was only wearing a sweat suit in a baby blue color. She looked so tall. Natural beauty. That was 23 years ago!!! People: time flies😮
I was stunned to see how well versed in English she is. It wasnt until then, that I realized that she left Czechoslovakia at 10. She has a very distinct, rather soviet-like accent, but her fluency is superb.
Her parents immigrated to Sweden first, from Czechoslovakia, when she was 6, I think, leaving her behind, because the escape from the communist camp with heavily patrolled and barb wired border was dangerous, and she then joined them with her grandmother few years later when she was about 10, still in Sweden, from where they continued to America later on. At least I think that's how she got into the free world when she was little. Her escape with her nana was also very dramatic, because the communist were very obstructive and didn't want the family to reunite in Sweden, they wanted to use 6 y.o. Paulina as a collateral and a extortion tool for her parents to return to the commie Eastern Europe! God, those were really horrendously hard times for the people there! Disgusting regime! I hate communists with a vengeance!

If you see interviews of her now, you can tell the hard knocks of life have either humbled her a bit or made her more comfortable showing her vulnerabilities. Her personality back then seemed very Eastern European: lvery straightforward and a bit brutally honest. In today's interviews, she's still honest but she seems much more relaxed, not pretending to be tough.

I recently watched a video of her speaking about “stumbling” into modeling from her perspective of now, and I was curious whether she was as blunt and displeased with societal notions at young age and damn! She is incredibly well spoken and should get more notoriety for her brilliance besides the obvious beauty.

I always found Paulina to be the most beautiful of the 1980’s/early 90’s supermodels. Perfect face, perfect body, a real personality and very smart and witty to boot. I remember how much in love she was with Ric Ocasek at the time and was saddened to hear how he treated her in the end after 28 years of marriage. Lesson of the story: Girls, always have your own money and bank account to look after yourself in case you ever need to leave a situation.

Of course she had plenty of other contracts and she was a very very veryyyy rich woman . I knew the guy, he was a colleague from work and he helped me with something important, so I would be a real douchebag if I now tried to steal his gf, I couldn't do it. She liked me too, the colleague at times confided in me drunk how she loves me and so on, but he didn't want to let go of her either. She's the one that got away for sure.

Agree but the world has evolved and professional in that profession don't have any upside like that anymore . Impossible to upgrade that level since you reach that level by entering a new market followed by huge amount of money and glamour there you have the peak performance . She starred in the movie "Her Alibi" with Tom Selleck back in the 80s, that was the first time I saw her, then I read about her being a supermodel and married to Rick Otcasek and I thought what a lucky S.O.B. Turns out he really was a S.O.B.
Her snarkiness reminds me so much of being that age, it's almost nostalgic. The bit about the weight obsession and all the obsessive things done to control appearance are still so accurate.
Being her age and watching this as my first video gave me goosebumps... But she also really normalized it, even girls my age in the 80's were struggling with the things I am now.

Notice how he kept calling her “cute” which actually would take power away from her, but instead of taking it in and “being nice” she kept the upperhand by keeping powerful energy and saying “yeah haha whatever”. Letterman was probing. She didn’t give him a chance.

She is now freaked out that she is old and says it is the worst thing in the world being invisible to all people. "Men don't want her and women don't want to be her any more." Quite sad she never had anything more important than the way she looked.
Paulina isn't freaked out about aging- she's embracing it but also commenting on it. She is a writer; advocating for people to accept themselves as they navigate the aging process. She has aged gracefully, is amazingly fit and seems to be enjoying life.

In the 80s and early 90s, photos of her were everywhere. If you looked at a magazine rack at a store during that time, she was probably on at least one cover or in one issue or another almost continuously for about ten years. I'm 57. I suspect that you're at least 15 years younger than me.

Beyond iconic, when models possessed both beauty and intelligence. The "super" models of today are nothing like the supermodels of the 1980s and 1990s.
Nowhere near the extremely sarcastic and indirect english breed. This is an east European attitude. The further east, the more accentuated those qualities are.
When l first saw her interviewed at age 54 on Sunday morning magazine and heard she signed a contract for 6 million, l thought dang, if she was smart and invested it, she'd be well set for life. Then the bomb shell, she put it into the marriage. Geez, l wished to God that l could have met her back then and direct her in a healthier way. That shot of her with her 2 sons at Ric's speech at the rock n roll hall of fame shows how much she really cared about him. In the end he did what a lot of people do, unfortunately abandoned her.....better off taking care of yourself than be burned. Such a lovely person, thanks for upload.
