Well done Ian on your pb Smoothound 👏 👍 totally enjoyed watching buddy with you and Chris as always a brilliant watch well done on all the Species tight lines to both 👍 🎣👍🎣
Hi again mate lovely to hear from you! So glad you are enjoying the videos they can be frustrating to make especially when the fishing is slow but you have to be ready to film at a moment’s notice! Chris definitely needs to up his camera skills but he makes up for it with his fishing!!!! Thanks again for watching cheers ian
Hi Glen wow that fish of yours is a beast!!! Mine took ages to get in and took loads of line too!!! Definitely the best fighting shore sea fish!!! Thanks again for watching cheers ian
Hi Ian Enjoyable-watchable video as usual, nice SH, new PB, trouble with that you are upping the anti each time to better it. ! Ha ha Trust you are keeping well, regards to your partner in crime - Chris Go Steady
Great video Ian once again, congrats on the PB Smoothhound. I got a new PB last week as well over here in Kent, but was unable to weigh or even photo as after I beached it it thrashed around so much it broke my hook snood and returned itself to the sea. I could have grabbed it but she was already on her way and only lightly hooked. I can say for sure it fought harder than my PB Bass of 12.5lb, the last 10 yards was explosive stuff. It took a bunch of freshly dug lugworm of all things. Hoping to get down to fish the mighty Chesil later on in the year.
They are such great sporting fish!!! Unfortunately Chris is a truly terrible person behind the camera as you saw!!! The first run nearly spooled me!! Hopefully the video gave some idea of the chaos!! Chris hooked his hound on lug too and I’ve even had one on a mackerel head!!! Thanks for watching again and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Love, love watching your films and Ive' learnt so much, but just like modern tv you spoil the anticipation by showing the catch at the start of the film. Sorry to nit pick on what was a fab trip to Chisel and a PB. well done you.
Thanks graham maybe I should change the intro??? Spoiler alert!!😂😂 glad you enjoyed the video thanks for your support and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Well done Ian on your PB. A lovely fish. Recent videos have been saying there are smoothhounds in the dark, and they seem to be of a better size than normal. Would have been nice to see how big Cliff's was, but hey, that's fishing. Thanks for allowing me to share your nice session. Look forward to the next one.
Hi ian…. I saw the smoothound he lost it looked about 7-8lb. They are definitely getting bigger every year and more numerous too…. Average size 2 lb more than a couple of years ago. Best chance of one is dusk or darkness for sure. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Well done on your PB. Last few times to Chesil in the daylight it's been very poor for me. I like the idea of arriving at dusk and fishing till dawn but what stops you from falling asleep on the way home? All the best.
Hi Paul lovely to hear from you! Copious quantities of energy drink and a full English breakfast!!!! It’s still a struggle but fishing dusk to dawn or even just til the early hours definitely gives a far greater chance of some decent fishing. Why not fish up until midnight initially and see how it goes?? Cheers ian
hi ian you ok mate, thanks for another enjoyable watch. well done what a cracking specimen of a fish. i think bella looking down on you still from the gods. all the best lads from up north grimsby.
Hi again Carl lovely to hear from you again!! So glad you are enjoying the videos I will try and keep them coming!!! Bella certainly smiled on me this time!!! Cheers ian
Cheers Al always nice to hear from you!!! Hope the fishing budleigh way is good! Chesil still a struggle to be honest especially in daylight. Tight lines mate cheers ian
Hi Martin lovely to hear from you! We have been fishing Chesil for 40 years and back then smoothound we’re unheard of. Last two years they definitely getting bigger…. Used to average 4 lbs, last year 6 …. Where will it end?? Thanks for watching cheers ian
Yes she is ian!!!! I’m sure you have many more opportunities for big fish in NZ than here in the Uk!!! So glad you enjoyed the video!!! Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Well done guys. I arrived at 4 15 Sunday morning and fished about 100 yards from you in the Portland direction. If I had known it was you I would have walked over and said hello ! Spent an hour and a half mackerel bashing - had plenty of small ones and a few decent ones for the table. I am struggling to get live peeler, how do you rate the “foreign” stuff from Highbridge ? I have been fishing Brean lately and I cannot avoid the strap congers. I think the answer is to stick with worm baits as the squid and mackerel do attract the damned things. Tight lines and congrats about the smoothound. Kevin
Hi Kevin we saw you at 4am!!! You can certainly catch the mackerel we were very impressed with your technique!!! Didn’t have a bite of the foreign peeler…. I’ve little faith in any frozen crab tbh!!! Confidence is important in your bait . The straps on Brean can be a pain but not as bad as Chesil 😂😂😂 we fish worm virtually exclusively on Brean and still catch conger and ray on it!!!!! Say hello next time !!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
The beach profile is unusual this year. The sandbar is some distance out and the area between the beach and the bar is shallower than most years. All the mackerel I had were on the far side of the bar in the deeper water. With the wind direction I was having to give the cast some wellie and I was at my maximum range for the conditions. Almost every cast that hit the deep water resulted in a take. The weed was getting to be a problem, that’s why I packed in at about 5 45.
Well done Leighton they are such sporting fish and a pleasure to catch!! They do seem more plentiful and bigger year on year at Chesil which I can’t complain about!!! Cheers ian
Cheers guys ... well done landing that cracking smoothound Ian 👏 lovely fish and a PB ... really enjoyed this video ... stay safe guys and tight lines 👍🎣🎣
Yes definitely a bit of Bella luck!!! Thought the morning may produce but absolutely nothing!! Still lovely to be out there! The smoothound a big bonus obviously!!!! Lovely to hear from you again cheers ian
I’m sure you will have a great time!! From July onwards I always have a lure rod on Chesil it’s surprising how close the bass come in sometimes and mackerel on light gear are fun too!! Cheers ian
