Dear Phillip, after reading your comment I would like to add. I have never made any attempt to say that this program replaces any form of good solid ballet training. However, as I view thousands of students studying ballet each year without little use of core strength and alignment I felt a great need for such a program. Feedback has been rewarding from teacher's worldwide, some of the comments are on my website www.progressingballettechnique.com I have taught this wonderful art of ballet for 40 years and many students are enjoying career in ballet companies worldwide. I'm not just a teacher trying to capitalize on this art form but passionate about development of early training.

In my studio, the core work done on balls this past semester improved everyone's form and general stability. I have seen interviews with several top dancers who say that core work or varied forms of physical training are essential for them. The women's heavyweight boxing world champion says her warmup is one hour of running and one of calisthenics, like jumping rope and strengthening her core. She doesn't just box and box and box and box. All the top performers do a variety of training, whatever their body and mind need to excel. And as for capitalizing described so negatively, if you offer your knowledge and experience I think it's great and don't see why you shouldn't benefit too.

This displays yet another attempt at a teacher who 1) wishes to capitalize on the art form classical ballet instead of being in service to it. 2) who does not understand that repetitively teaching student to dance sitting on a ball will cause them to engram an anterior pelvic tilt ("breaking in the hips"). 3) thus, does not comprehend the difference between ballet technique and cross training. Proprioseption, -maybe- a little vestibular training, and if done correctly (not so in this video as is erroneously claimed) core strength is improved by ball-work. But, ballet technique is -only- improved by practice repetitively in ballet technique class, employing the fundamentals of classical ballet, which in this video, is only gleaned from to make sitting on a ball look like the children are actually doing something resembling classical ballet. This is but another distraction from facts into false conceptualizations about serious dance training. YES! Cross training can help dancers keep in shape. But, it is only a support for ballet training that happens every day. If the class and and teacher are not progressive in their approach to training, then all the pilates, yoga, gyrotonics, floor-barre, ball work, physical training etc. etc. blah blah (and I personally am certified in several of those), will do nothing, nada, zero, zippo to train a dancer. If the training is bad, All that cross training simply becomes a placebo for the real work it takes to become a dancer -in the studio and onstage! Ball work is a physical training exercise. It has nothing to do with ballet. In fact, unless the dancer has certain specific weaknesses or injuries, such training is entirely un necessary, and, because they aren't needed by such a performer, may actually -cause- injury. Indeed, quite often it does....and often because the ballet classes are so bad that the dancer mistakenly relies upon the non-sequitur of cross training to fill in the gaps. In fact, this is epidemic in the US, where dancers "Take Class" and teachers "Give Class" as opposed to "students studying" and "teachers instructing." The point is: don't mix cats with dogs if you are trying to create the perfect breed of either: it simply won't work.
