Hey, Ken.... A great finale to the 'Season'... dog was REAL happy to see Dad!! You may find this hard to believe, but actually the PCT has been done in winter!! A couple tried in 1983, but slipped in icy terrain and were both killed; but in 2015, a pair of 'outdoor sport' professionals made the trip SOBO in 131 days... They almost stopped in Bend, OR due to nearly frost-bitten feet, but got them re-warmed during a night in Bend, and decided to 'go a little further'... Looking forward to some more vids. I went thru Spokane about 6 weeks ago and was thinking of you guys, but I was flying low... (think I mentioned my 'road trip' in an earlier comment) Take care!

Hi Skagit Ed! When I came off Stevens Pass I half expected to see you there giving out trail magic. LOL. Glad you're still following our adventures and we may yet cross paths again. We're not done with the PCT yet!

You guys did amazing. Thank you for sharing. Keep trekking. 😀
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
Thanks Gayle! Now that spring is here we are looking forward to more adventures, including a goat-packing trip in Idaho and hopefully more miles on the PCT later in the summer.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have followed you since the start of 2020. Best wishes to you and Goldilocks and Guss.
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
Thanks Dave! It's really humbling to know there are people like you out there who enjoyed following our hike enough to stick with us over the past two years. We're not finished with the PCT just yet, so hopefully we'll have more adventures to share in 2023.

Hey Ken! Nancy here in Oregon …. We conversed in 2020 when you were in Oregon (offered trail magic). Glad to see you 2 got back out to to put some more dirt and trails under your boots. Totally understand about Goldilocks’ respiratory issues and not wanting to continue w/out her. Congratulations on getting some of the PCT completed! BTW, we may have some new fire closures in Oregon this year, but on a positive note, the much awaited & beautiful Jefferson Park area that has been closed the last couple years, has re-opened! If you ever come back to check off the closure miles and need any help with logistics, give me a holler!
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
Hi Nancy! Of course I remember you. We came very close to meeting up and accepting your offer of assistance if we hadn't decided to skip up to Cascade Locks. Missing that section of trail has been on our minds ever since, and if we return to the PCT in 2023 (which is our current plan) it will be to finish out Oregon. We will definitely want to meet up face-to-face if possible. Thanks for continuing to follow our adventure 😀

It was great seeing you again. We missed goalie locks Tell her hi for us. Hope to see you next year take care sir. You're an inspiration. I will get out there one of these days
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
Thanks Ben! And Goldilocks says "hi". Don't put off your hike too long, it's a great adventure but gets just a little bit more difficult with each passing year.

I tried to put myself in your shoes while I was watching the first part of this video and wondered how in the world you could keep going without your partner. I know I couldn't do it. So I absolutely understand and respect your decision to get off the trail. There are better days ahead for you and Goldilocks. Keep on hiking!
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
It was a tough decision. I didn't want to quit the PCT so soon after finally getting back on trail, but also felt conflicted about leaving Goldilocks behind. Ultimately, as I said in the video, it just felt like something was missing (and it was!) and I just wasn't enjoying myself as much as I should have. Hopefully 2023 will be a better year and we'll be able to get back out and knock out some more miles. Thanks for continuing to follow us
@adventureswithfrickandfrack
Always great to follow you guys. I look forward to seeing you and Goldilocks on the future!
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
Thank you. We both plan to keep hiking as long as we can, and we still have unfinished miles on the PCT that are waiting for us.

great job ken. i just saw i was suppose to start same day as you in 2020. sorry i missed you! i followed along on the pct and you inspired me to try again. hope i get a permit and try again. just keep getting older and every year it's more difficult.
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
Wow! That would have been so cool if we could have met up at the start back in 2020. I really hope you get a permit for 2023. Yes, it's a tough hike at any age, and gets harder every year. But I agree with those who say a thru-hike is 25% physical and 75% mental. If you have the right attitude you can do it (or at least give it a good try) no matter your age. I was 63 when we started, and Goldilocks was 55, and we weren't the oldest people on the trail. Neither of us were in "trail condition" at the start, but we took it one day at a time and kept a positive attitude (as best we could...) and lasted a lot longer than most of the other hikers. Honestly, recording our hike here on RU-vid was a big help. We had a lot of people (like you!) rooting for us to be successful, and we didn't want to let them down by quiting early. Maybe something for you to think about as you're planning your own hike.

I can only imagine how hard it was to hike that section without Goldilocks. But thanks for sharing your adventure. That section is no joke. You did good. You should be proud
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
It's not an exaggeration to say it was probably the most beautiful section of the PCT that I hiked ... but also the most challenging. Hopefully Goldilocks and I will be back out there again next summer!

Hello Big brother I really like your hike and adventure out in the wild... And what happen to the cougar??
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
Dammit! I was in a hurry to get that last video finished and completely forgot about the cougar until it was already uploaded.

Damn! Can't believe I forgot the cougar! Thanks for catching that, I'll have to put 2 in the next video 😉

Sad to see you getting off trail but I totally understand. Maybe next year you will get to finish it together! Great try tho. Nice to have followed a few more of your videos. Take care!
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
Thank you BNF. You have been one of our faithful followers since day one and one of the few who encouraged us to "keep on hiking" during the lockdown when so many others were yelling at us to "get off trail!". Baring some other disaster we fully plan to hike again in 2023 and hopefully put a big dent in the miles we have remaing to finish our thru-hike.

Well I guess it’s the final chapter of the season of “ALONE”. Give Goldilocks our best.

Maybe...we'll see how we feel when next summer rolls around. I plan to keep hiking as long as I can.

@@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294 enjoy. I’m having trouble with the muscles in my hips and thighs. Ever since I got the Covid vaccine. I went to a pulmonologist and got a scan for the arteries in my legs and there are no major blockages. I can barely walk a quarter-mile and have to stop. I’m not winded one bit but it’s like my muscles after doing 10 sets of squats. I don’t know if it’s something neurological. Getting old sucks so enjoy it while you can my friend
@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294
Crap! Really sorry Mark. I've been hearing SO many reports of people suffering adverse side effects from the vaccine. Hopefully whatever hss affected your legs is only temporary and will diminish over time. Good luck my friend!

@@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294 I think I might be related to my sciatic nerve. I bought some new shoes and inserts and they seem to help.
