So happy you guys are getting through without detouring. I hiked that section in 2019 and I felt like I was on top of the world up there, I literally felt like I was on one of those floating mountains in Avatar! Can’t wait to Thru hike the pct again!!
It is always a little sad when PCTer's I have followed all spring and summer finish the trail but I am sure you guys are so ready to sleep in your own beds.
Don’t drink the glacier run off, even if you filter it. It’s like drinking milk of magnesia and it will loosen the bowels probably more than you like. Def slow down your daily mileage for all the extra potty breaks and possible stomach cramps. Not poisonous but give you the runs. Nice to have a trail family member who got you non-runs water. Lol. But looks like you got a nice weather day. Got to cross that famous crazy broke bridge. Don’t think it’s actually broken but it looks like it. Think it was built that way. Wow it’s amazing that you made it past the fire closure before it closed. No fun to hike in all that smoke. I noticed the rock hammer too. So resourceful.
Happy to see you folks skipped through that area just before the closure. Your campsite looks like the center of a microburst, a highly local wind storm like a tornado. They happen every few years in the unsetteled weather of fall and spring. Doesn't look like a fire hit those trees, the surrounding younger trees are too old for the loss to have not disintegrated by now. That FS guy putting up signs isn't going to carry the weight off a hammer and get his route completed in time. I've closed trails as a FS volunteer. They gave me the signs and nails along with a large roll of closure tape to string across the trails. The job took all day to get to each trail and junction, and post the signs, carrying a hammer would not have sped me up. One of the fires I posted at a trail junction on the PCT all day sending hikers off the PCT on a feeder trail to be shuttled out while the fire raced towards the trail. The fun part was leading a hotshot crew from Montana up the ridge to help them identify the area on their maps and locate safe zones for escape. Safe travels!
So nice to run into you guys as I was travelling south and you were approaching Snoqualmie. Congratulations on getting through the fire closure in the nick of time. I would say you are lucky, but the fact is you are really booking. For anyone who hasn't done it, just try doing 24 miles a day in that kind of country. These "Codgers" are pretty awesome.
24.7 miles, great hiking. You guys had to really book in order to get thru the closure. The mountain views were beautiful even thru the smoky haze. That up and down bridge was quite unique, actually strange, but served the purpose. Campsite was different too, with all the trees down. I always enjoy seeing your campsites. I'm recovering from double hip replacement, so I camp vicariously thru you guys. Looking forward to resuming my usual avid camping next season. Take care and happy trails!
Welcome to the west coast. Climate change has transformed our landscapes. And since I’ve watched you from the very beginning at campo, your amazement about vistas has only quadrupled in my mind.
Enjoying watching these videos but have to say I miss seeing that Marmalade character in your videos. He’s fun to watch! Lol told you it would get prettier & prettier 😂
Greeting Codgers. We are Reno-area residents and are hoping to provide some trail magic at Barker Pass on the west shore of Tahoe sometime this month. Are you planning on flopping down to Chester and heading south soon? We would love to be able to meet you guys if the timing works out. Happy trails!
Very nice, well done with the fire closure, phew. I was wondering if Travelinbeat (also on YT) had caught up with Codgers&co by now... But I guess we'll see if they meet each other later... cheers 🌞
Wow, what timing getting around the closure. Wondering how Lookout/AL managed getting through, he hasn't posted in awhile (Adventure Together). Hope you continue to have some luck.... gorgeous scenery.
I thought the exact same thing about "Ranger Rock", where is your hammer? I guess it got shipped to Ukraine. 😉 Codgers, that is not smoke you smell, it's the finish line.
