That is not a PCV valve in the cover, there is a pcv valve inside the intake manifold and if you only replace the valve cover and do not fix the problem with the intake you will end up replacing the cover again. Do your research, this is a known problem on all of these engines.
@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage
@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage 4 года назад
I am happy to call this a pcv valve as is many others including the parts departments that supply it, call it a vacuum regulator valve if you want it, it doesn't matter, regarding the valve you speak of, Are you taking about the non-return valve? (orange in colour on the tip) If you are? there was no issues there, as the non-return valve could be blown through but not sucked, Failure of that item requires the whole intake manifold to be replaced and the customer certainly would not like that to be added to the bill. Or maybe the other check-valve at the intake piping entry point? Same test to check it which again was fine.

I think the main thing to take away here is that as technicians we try to do as much as possible for the customer, it is impossible to know all the information all the time but I certainly try my very best to keep informed, regularly training and researching. I think the tone of your comment was unnecessary, as we all learn the information from somewhere and at some stage did not know how this Pcv system works. We all learn and I always try to give the best information I can on my videos, while trying to keep it short, to the point of repair and with a DIY viewer also in mind 👍👌👌

That's not the pcv valve.. that's just a diaphram regulator... (but it is part of the same system)

Great video showing how it failed. These 1.4t have bad pcv systems either in the valve cover or the intake manifold. My valve cover failed at 52k.

there is actually a kit to replace the diaphram and top cover buts ita bit of a ball ache but a lot cheaper than replacing the valve cover

for me it worked better at prying the old cap, by heating with heat gun first. and then it went easy with somw plyers. but it had a clean pry.
@greenspiraldragon
@greenspiraldragon Год назад
On that one you absolutely can get a repair kit, heat the lid with a heat gun pop it off with a screwdriver and replace spring and gasket and glue a new lid back on. On mine you can't just replaced mine 160-200 at the parts store 39 dollars on ebay.

it's not a PCV valve on the came shaft cover. It's a pressure regulator at idle. There a two PVC valves on this engine. One in located on the intake manifold and the other on is connected to the turbo charger. If either of these PVC valves fail it will pop the air pressure regulator on the came shaft cover. There are service bullitions on this subject. The PVC valve in the intake will fail and get sucked in the engine. If this happens, under boost the air regulator on the came cover will pop. If this has happened the customer will be back with the same issue again.

you can replace only the membrane, you can find on ebay the spare membrane. you open the vacuum valve from inside and replace membrane

Its even worse than you think--- the real "pcv" valve is inside the intake manifold and its just a rubber flap that acts like a check valve, and you have to replace the entire intake manifold to fix it. smh.... There is a guy on here that made a good fix for it though--- If anyone is having this issue.

You can get these covers cheap on rockauto or ebay. Im about to be ordering one. This will be the second time ive had to replace the cover because of a failed regulater. Horrible design. Someone could make good money if they designed an aftermarket cover with a replacable regulater.

Like putting a brandade on the real problem. The real problem is in the intake manifold, there is a check valve that goes bad.
@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage
@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage Год назад
If you browse through the comments you will see I answered that question at length for a previous viewer. That was not the case and I have done a couple since that the valve was also fine, it's a known problem but certainly not a case of everyone has dual failures.
@jameshubbard7565
@jameshubbard7565 3 года назад
The actual PCV valve is located on the intake manifold, and it is probably faulty. The ripped diaphragm shown is likely a result of the actual PCV failure. The diaphragm wasn't designed to handle the vacuum load of a faulty valve and eventually rips. Hope yours doesn't rip again

BOO!! When you’re finished patting yourself on the back, do your customer a real favor and order them another cam shaft cover and an updated intake from Dorman. This is your true root cause. 100% of the time The PCV Valve in the intake goes, causing boost pressure to rupture the diaphragm in the camshaft cover you incorrectly identified as a “PCV Valve.”
@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage
