PDM LAYTON 78% vs 82% - Is Layton Still Worth The Money? 

I would choose the more versatile 82% formulation, because I also like to wear Layton in the summer.

Ok VF you're good. So I had the 78% from 2019 which I sold. And just bought the 82% from Harvey Nichols. I prefer the 82%. The reason I sold the 78% was because the blend seemed messy and the opening was harsh and all over the place. Was headache inducing. This 82% is smoother and blended better. I prefer it. As you eluded to, reformulations aren't always a bad thing.

I have 82% layton and i must admit its not a really loud fragrance. Last about 6 hours on me. I believe once a flanker comes out the original fragrance is toned down with new batches

I love airy scents and hated the menthol from the 78% version. The reformulation seems like just my thing

Thanks for making this, it's usually really difficult to find solid info on old vs. new formulations. The first time I sampled layton all I could smell was menthol and I didn't like it at all, but after seeing this I specifically sought out a sample from a newer batch and the menthol note is toned down so I can enjoy the rest of the fragrance now - bought myself a bottle of the 82%!

One thing that 82% helps with is indeed by making it truly all-year wearable, or at least it gets close to all-year now than it previously did. However, it's not noting that Layton isn't the only Marly to have had this change. I believe Oajan and Carlisle also have had their concentrations changed in the last couple years (don't quote me on that, I own neither).

I have the 82%. There is menthol note in the opening. It has gotten stronger as I have it. It lasts 10+ hours on my skin. I love this fragrance. One of my signature scents for 3 seasons and date nights.

For all that are asking. Every time there is high percentage of vanillin materials and aldehydes, you need to wait many months for real final smell, if batches are new

My issue is just that they've increased the price over the past year. I paid about $300 for a bottle just a year ago, but it's $350 for the same bottle now. I just can't justify that price.

hot take: i prefer the newer 82% version. performs about the same for me and it's both airier & juicier than the thick density of the original. You're correct that it's more signature-worthy now.

I’m the weirdo that like the menthol smell. I have the 82% batch smells great to me.

I bought the 82% two weeks ago and after about 2 hours I can hardly smell it on my skin. I’m very disappointed and actually contacted Parfum de Marly directly to tell them that the scent doesn’t last long at all for a £245 fragrance and they came back saying that because I’ve used it there is nothing they can do. Unless I used it I wouldn’t have known that the fragrance wasn’t that long lasting but they didn’t seem to care. Overall I like the scent but Layton not worth £245 when I have much cheaper fragrances that last much much longer. Can anyone explain why it almost disappears on my skin. I’ve never had any issues with Creed and other brands.

Like many I bought after getting samples , I found the performance, silage, and projection was just lacking. I think it’s criminal that companies keep very quiet about it. Xerjoff Naxos is another that got ruined. Nearly all skin scents now.

I have the new 82% Layton, I've not owned the 78%. The projection and the longevity in the newer version is good enough, smells very nice.

Great video George . 👍 As you know i love Layton and mine is the old Formulation so good to hear it's still awesome !! I'm pretty sure they reformulated because one of the ingredients got banned . I think it was Aaron Terrance Hughes that said there was an ingredient in it that he knew was getting banned when he reviewed it years ago and he said it would be reformulated .

Its great if the menthol note is gone, cause everytime I sampled Layton myself and alot of girls with me thought it was stinky medicine and man indeed the initial spray any opening felt like old medicine.

My original smelled like VapoRub to me and my wife and I haven’t tried the reformulation cause of the horrible scent of the first one lol 😂

I was wondering why my new bottle smelled a little different, I had 2 of the previous batch, when 1 ran out this year I ordered another bottle. Now I have 1 of the new and 1 of the old. I save the old batch for night action , and new bottle for daytime usage

Had the old formulation a few years ago, the new one i tried today. Om test strip smells great, on skin its literally none existant what on earth is this.

Did the new batch get its menthol opening after maceration? The newly opened bottles completely miss it and smell more like layton exclusif

I have a serious question right now. I just bought a parfums de marly Oajan thinking it was the old formulation because under the box it was written 78% concentration, and then i open the box and look under the bottle and it says 82% like what...??? Btw, i bought it at an autorised reseller, so like i really don't understand why something like this would happen. Under the box, it says parfums de marly 2014. I also bought another one before that on a discounter and it said parfums de marly 2022, so a very recent batch. My point is, are you telling me that they are actually reusing older boxes and put the new bottles in?? If that is so, that is shameful and it is misleading. I guess i just learned a valuable lesson today. I just wasted 230$ extra to buy it at and authorised reseller when i could have had the same thing at 270$ on a discounter. At least i have both Herod and Carlisle as older batches. Got them a while ago, carlisle 77% concentration and herod 78%. I tested the newer batches and it seems like they are weaker in terms of strenght. The strenght is less pronounced then the previous batches. I won't chase after older batches now, if i find the fragrance i want at a resonable price on a discounter, i'll buy it, but never again at full price.

Bro I just got the new 200 mL, and I am so disappointed. It only lasted 2 hours on my skin. Today is day two of testing, hoping to have better results otherwise I’m going to give them a piece of my mind.

I have a new batch that’s 82% but it doesn’t perform as I’d hope or though, my clone of it smells the same and does way better does Layton increase its quality/performance after oxidizing/aging/macerating it.?

Its all oxygen and time. There was no reformulation according to Parfums de Marly. There's just a little more alcohol in it now, but the scent and ingredients and percentages are the same. They just confirmed me this via e-mail a week ago. Its the same juice , just not aged like the older batch. In 2 years it will prolly smell the same.

I have 2020 and dont get that mentol note but in my 2019 bottle i get that very much and it is beutiful im sad dont have it anymore beacuse beacuse of that it was very unque

Hi! Is the 2022 layton batch number 2302154 having performance issues?? Could hardly smell it after 2 hours😢😢

Bought a brand new bottle of the 2023 PDM Layton. It smells like cheap menthol shower gel. NOT recommended. I wouldn't pay $20 for it, let alone the high price PDM demands. I have triple checked that it Is a real PDM Layton, and it is 100% authenticated. But i also went to a store and sprayed a tester bottle and my bottle side by side to compare. Mine is All menthol, the tester one was a better blend (but still not as good as the old 78% alcohol version). I'm hoping it's a bad batch, but i've seen a lot of people having the same issue. (Batch nr: 3323044. Production date: 2023-08-07).
