Should get 27.2 either way you solve. Moment will resolve into a couple no matter where it is on the beam.

Roller and pinned supports cannot accept concentrated moments, so that 20k-ft moment at point B would need to be converted to a T/C couple. Doing that would yield 27.2K at support A for both solutions. Table 3-23 #35 is probably the closest you'd get. Either way, since the answers are spaced sufficiently far apart, neglecting or including that concentrated moment won't affect the final answer.

Dumb question, but when the problem says "service load", why don't we make it an LRFD factored load? That was what I was thinking as soon as I saw those words.
@ddarkjared

LRFD stnads for "Load and Resistance Factor Design". Service loads are unfactored. They are meant to be the loads the building can withstand and stay in service. "No issues". If a building received the full LRFD loads, it will have issues that needs resolved, but should still be standing.

Option 1 does seem useful but summing forces is much quicker than having to look up different equations in aisc. Regardless, I really appreciate your videos dude!! Taking my test soon.

Shouldn't that R1 reaction in the second case be downward?
