Peach Tree Grown From Seed - First Harvest!
In this video, I'll be harvesting and taste testing the very first peaches on my Peach Tree that I started from seed!
I'm super excited because it is now month 59 (almost 5 years since I seed started the seeds from store bought peaches.
I have had to battle the plum curculio, squirrels, rabbits and birds during this season so while the harvest is minimal (and with damaged fruit) the main objective here was to see how they tasted and if the tree would produce edible, delicious peaches at all.
Finally, it took FOREVER for the peaches to ripen. If I was able to leave them on the tree, they would have been ripe around the first week of September versus being ripe in June/July, like my other peach trees (Harvester Peach and Loring Peach).
Background to the Peach Trees from Seeds:
I purchased a few peaches from the store and decided to try my luck at growing the peach seeds into peach trees. I used the wet paper towel and ziploc bag method to start germination. I started the peach seeds on 10/2/16). It took about 4 weeks to get these two seeds to sprout and they've been in the cups for about another 5 weeks. I apologize for not filming it from the start. The central leaders on these saplings didn't look good so I was hesitant to even do the series but I topped them to promote some side shoots and they really took off!
I hope you'll enjoy this series. Here's the series link:

Why didn't you cover the tree with an insect net to at least protect it from squirrels and birds? Squirrels will always get tbe fruit before it ripens. They are very impatient and wasteful buggers!

Rob, any harvest you can get isn't a pathetic harvest. They look good, and I appreciate your channel. I've been working on trees from store bought fruit and your channel has been a wealth of information. Thank you!

The trick with peaches is to pick them when they are hard and put them in a brown paper bag to rippen in a cooler. Tree ripped doesn't work in the north unless you what to feed nature.

Great job Rob! It is encouraging to see that you are actually getting flavorful fruits of trees starting from seeds! I am also experimenting with lots of exotic tropical fruits from seeds myself. I am not at an early stage around year 2-3. Your channel is such an inspiration and it is so rewarding to see and know that seed propagation works! Thank you so much! Looking forward to seeing more videos and updates on your wonderful work!

Now that you have a late ripening variety, you can have peaches throughout the whole summer, that is great. We just picked our peaches as well, although our tree isn't grown from seed. I started 3 seeds in a pot 2 years ago, they sprouted the next year after the winter and grew nicely, overwintered in the pot, but when buds started opening in the spring, all plants slowly died before summer came.

Good job, Rob. Nothing as fulfilling as getting fruit from a seed-grown tree. I have a nectarine tree that showed its first and only flower at 21 months.

These late ripening golf ball sized peaches with very little or no tinge of redness are the ones that are used as base plant material for commercial varieties of peaches and plums to be grafted on. Here in northern India we consider them the "original" ones that got modified into all types of other peaches later on. We don't have the concept of non grafted peaches that are directly grown from commercial varieties fruit pits. Now with all of those pits scattered all over the garden, I suddenly feeling 'rich'.. Now Imma grow them by the thousands in upcoming seasons.

You can protect your peaches while they are still on the tree, Just put plastic bags around them and seal of the bags with strings, this will stop insects and birds getting to them....

Do you spray your trees at all? In my area I have to spray on a schedule or will have 90%+ fruit loss. I spray in the winter too. I do a couple of trees with synthetic and a couple with organic and as long as I keep to a regular spraying I have very little pest damage. My first from seed peach is going into the ground in 3 weeks too so will be fun to see what I get.

Feed the squirrels and they pretty much stay away from our fruit trees. Also feeding the birds help keep them away. The worms can be the hardest to deal with without pesticide thats organic or not.
