The peanut butter fruit is a wonderful tropical fruit that originated in South America. Hardy in Zone 10-13, this plant can produce fruits within 2-4 years. This tasty fruit is one of my favorite snacks in the garden when I am hungry. Make sure to pick them when they are soft to the touch and have a deep red color. You will have to process them quickly for jams or smoothies, as they can spoil quickly. This is one of those tropical fruits that don't ship well, so you will need to find a tree or grow them yourself to enjoy these delicious treats. If you are going to grow them in a container, use well-draining soil and choose a container larger than 3 gallons. This plant can do well in full sun to part shade and can tolerate moderate watering.

Very nice tree and good video. FYI. These can be propagated by cuttings and air layers. When you propagate by seed they can take 2-3 years on average to fruit. Cuttings and air layers produce within 6 months in my experience. Thumbs up and subscribed. 🤠😊🤠

Pick them when they're orangy, they'll turn red in a day or two and ready to be eaten. Otherwise the birds or other animals will eat them before you do!

Did you eat the seed too ? I was sick after eating the seeds. I saw some people eat the whole fruit on RU-vid so I ate it. I felt nausea and dizzy.

Hi Heidi! I just bought a PB fruit tree, and I was wondering what zone you are in? I'm in Zone 9B. Do you think I'm okay? Thank you for the video!

Yes! I am 9b too! I have one in the ground with full afternoon sun and one in a nursery container with part shade...both doing fine, the container likes having water...these are a fun tree, don't get to big, where are you located? I am in Cape Coral.

Can we grow it in bot in Terrace Garden
@GardeningWithHeidi
@GardeningWithHeidi 3 года назад
Yes, large pot, well drained soil, full sun. This is a tropical plant so needs sun and humidity is good too. Check out the self wicking containers, may be a good option. I have one that I haven't planted and it will dry out and get droopy...after I water it, it will rebound. However, I think it can stress the tree out if there isn't enough soil around the root system...enjoy!

The seed in the middle makes for tough processing as the outer flesh is soft and kind of sticks like peanut butter...I think they are best for foraging snacks
