The peanut butter fruit is a wonderful tropical fruit that originated in South America. Hardy in Zone 10-13, this plant can produce fruits within 2-4 years. This tasty fruit is one of my favorite snacks in the garden when I am hungry. Make sure to pick them when they are soft to the touch and have a deep red color. You will have to process them quickly for jams or smoothies, as they can spoil quickly. This is one of those tropical fruits that don't ship well, so you will need to find a tree or grow them yourself to enjoy these delicious treats. If you are going to grow them in a container, use well-draining soil and choose a container larger than 3 gallons. This plant can do well in full sun to part shade and can tolerate moderate watering.
