As a driver , that be a great retirement job ! I delivered new hospital beds all over the country , with trailer similar to that . A sliding overhead crane would pick them up at smaller hospitals that didn't have a loading dock . Interesting video 📹 , thanks 😊!

I highly recommend that float trip. Took on back in the late 70's for my geology of Arizona class out of U of A. We had the choice of writing a paper on some boring geological structure or float the river and write about that. You shouldn't have to guess which one i went for. Absolutely fantastic, geology, biology, i could guy on and on. Oh yea college babes too:-) Memories....

Grew up there use to be the diamond bar ranch now grand canyon west now. There wasn't any paved roads then, all dirt roads from Dolan Springs to the river, road looks smooth compared to when we lived there took 3hrs from Kingman to the ranch house. Drove a lot of cattle to Pearce Ferry. We use to find all kinds of stuff at the CCC camp dumps

Outstanding shipmate. Press on. USS Kitty Hawk CV-63. Jan 1980 to July 1983. To bad you could not of been in South Pode Island Texas on the 31st of March this year. We went down there and watch the USS Kitty Hawk come in. They had to tow her 16000 miles from Berminton Washington. Now they are on their way to the east coast to get the USS John F Kennady. The Navy don`t need them anymore so they sold them to the scrap yard for one penny.

Thank you for sharing this. I lived in Dolan Springs back in 72-73 with my grandparents and I still remember the rafting vans and buses full of people and supplies going back to the starting point. There’s cliffs at South Cove we used to jump and dive off into the water below which was always warm. I haven’t been back since then but do want to go back maybe next summer.

Thanks for the aerial view. In 2000 I took my 12-foot fold-a-boat with a 5-hp motor from Las Vegas Bay Marina to up to he helicopter landing area beyond Pierces ferry. That whole basin was full of water. All of the green flat area was under water. It was several miles wide and the in let to the canyon was some what obscure. Nice to see what the place looks like without water. Kind of what I expected. Back then the rubber boats floated down to the camping area. It was very slow moving water and lots of silt muck mud (aka quick sand).

We visited the campground in the spring of 2000. At that time, the rafts were taken out of the water right close to that campground. All that area was lake back then and it was not possible to see the river as it was way under water. All those roads were made as the water level receded. We live near a reservoir and river that feeds into the Colorado river and it breaks our hearts to see how people and cities downstream use this precious commodity without thinking that it is not infinite. Thank you for the tour. Your video quality is so clear and well edited.

Howdy Russ, happy Friday! Thanks for driving that dirt road so we don't have to! I would guess they have to keep it in somewhat decent shape for the rafting company shuttles, but it still looks like there are some pretty washboard-y stretches. Now that you've been to the rafting take-out spot, maybe you could visit the put-in spot at Lee's Ferry on one of your future trips--it's a LOT more scenic than Pearce Ferry. Until next time, happy trails!

My only regret was growing up in this part of the country.. never really appreciated it until I lived in the mid west.. We spent a lot of weeks on Powell and Mead... They use the boats because of time.. The water does not move fast enough after you get down river and the river gets wide. takes another 2 days if you just float the river down.. hop on a jet boat and it is only a couple hours..

Worked as a guide in Grand Canyon for about 15 years. Half way is hiking in or out from Phantom Ranch. Jet boats get the guests across the last 60 miles way faster than the motor powered rafts and a day faster than the row boats. The campground used to be near lake level. The cliffs across from the boat ramp are the eroded silt deposits from the lake when it was full. There is a unrunnable rapid just down stream from the boat ramp. It’s just a half mile downstream. Next time you get there look at it. When I worked down there the boat ramp was near the campground. We called it Pierce Ferry Bay. The last few trips I worked we went to South Cove because you couldn’t get int the Bay any more. I’m 64 and hope to get there by the River again.
@caverbrad
@caverbrad Год назад
I'll add that I've done three trips down the canyon full length and used one outfitter for the first one and a different for the second and third. The first was near labor day 2005. My gps points show that we were picked up by the jet boat at Spencer Canyon and taken to South Cove. When we got to the transition from silty river to lake the pilot asked us to brace just in case we hit a sand bar. I think they picked us up at camp and we then picked up another trip from another outfitter. We helped the guides de-rig the outer tubes on the raft. Our guides said it makes for faster travel but still would take them something like 6? hours to get to South Cove. 2010 I decided to do the same trip but try another outfitter who also ran the whole canyon. By then the lake had dropped more and the new rapid had appeared. That and a 2015 trip we took the raft to Pearce Ferry. I know the area then was getting dicey with sandbars near the Skywalk area.

The spectacular views are really interesting!! When I look what I see is that an unfathomable amount of water, probably a few thousand feet tall or more cut those canyons and valleys. And it happened in a very short period of time. A tumult of catastrophic proportions. Moab, all the way up threw the Scab Lands of Oregon and Washington. Water did this, VERY QUICKLY! Warmer, Dryer is the trend now, coming out of the last Ice Age 12,000 years ago. Either the Freeze or the Flood, or both killed off the Mega-Fauna then. Just look. It is there for those with eyes to see.
