The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

This was Grand Prize. A TRUE entertainer, in that five minute span, she sings, she dances, she wins over the audience (and us too!), she displays comedic skills and perfect timing, and does all this OOZING class and showmanship. Nothing vulgar about this lady. I don’t know if it’s all her or partly due to the era, but I rue the day we lost this type of entertainment. I always wanted to see Latifah play Pearl in a biopic but it has never happened. Anyway, thank you for posting.

Pearl was so original. That’s her husband, Louis Bellson on drums. Pearl would eventually take over the lead, Dolly Levi in the original long-running Broadway production of Hello Dolly in November 1967 until December 1969.

Brilliant! I've never seen Pearl dance before! This is what a star can do with a few simple steps - bring the house down! Pearl just gave me a smile on my face that's going to be there for hours!

If they should ever make a movie biography, Queen Latifa would be the part for her to play Pearl Bailey, it’s so eerie to see her n the likeness n look alike and Queen Latifa can sing, imo❤️

WOW! I may be using an iPhone and watching videos on RU-vid and using technology that was unheard of in the 60s. But nothing in this world can compare to the talent of Pearl Bailey. She’s untouchable and irreplaceable. 🥰 FOREVER !!

Tap dancing is hard... But in stiletto heels.. I've never seen that. I can't even see ankle straps across the shoes. Pearl Bailey was a force of nature that many performers could do well to emulate. XoXo 😘❤

I like to put it this way. Pearl Bailey was the best singer at doing patter on the beat. She would sing, then patter, then land on the beat to sing again. It is VERY hard to do.
