Two of my favourite live amps i ever used go head to head the PEAVEY 6505+ and EVH 5150III EL34S 100,theres not much between these two amps especially when using an impulse response.In the room the EVH a touch thicker and more gainy and the PEAVEY for me needs a boost,the EVH you can get away without one.The PEAVEY is less noisy and a touch clearer with an ir.
I could live with either two killer metal amps for sure,by two of my favourite brands.

The old school 6505+ holds up REALLY well to the newer EVH from what I can tell. I just grabbed a 6505+ today on the used market... amazing amp!

Yeah I’ll always have a soft spot for it I think in the room I prefer the JSX and EVH but for recording it’s a win with those mids

Both amps are crushing! EL34s give a little brighter snarl while the 6505 definitely darker. In a recording scenario recording two tracks with one and then two tracks with the other would be an absolute monster!

Both are amazing 👏 the 6505+is just a freaking metal monster 👻 👽 😳 the EVH is also great 👍 very bright in your face. But bossted it takes a different shape. Still cool though. 😎 I'm just old school metal so the 6505+is always on top for me. Again another great video my friend.

Boosted 6505+ for me... It pokes out in the right place. But my particular block hoses every 6505, 6505+, or 5150ii I've ever heard... I've been using the Stealth 50 watt lately for convenience. Smaller size, midi, and more flexible overall. Was thinking about the EL34 though, due to the mids.

I sold my 6505+ 112 I had retubed and everything to get the 50 watt 5150III EL34. I’ve missed the 6505 since. Never felt the need to boost it. It just has this dark low end growl the 5153 is missing. I prefer to use the “muddy” blue channel with a Maxon OD808 to tighten it up and it sounds great. Red channel is pretty thin.

The 50 watt el34 is totally different from 100 watt version mate the 100w is an absolute gain monster in all channels

Nice demo man ! Which one is the best ? The EVH is a lot more money, but seem to sound richer in all demo I’ve heard. Also. it’s funny that the 6505 is 6l6 but both amp seem to sound a little similar

Absolutely yeah the power tubes do make a difference but it’s not massive more of a feel thing when using high gain pre amps

the EVH sounded more open at the top even though the recording had both sounding vintage and dark. What speaker is that? If you ever tried Eminence stuff I recommend the CV75 or the DV77. Their IRs are great.

I have the 6505+ and EVH iii. One cost half of the other and has twice as much barbwire chugg! :) At first in solo I might prefer the EVH but with dubbed tracks in a mix the 6505+ is hard to beat. I tend to blend it with my Engl Artist Edition which is almost like a black album tone. The tightest amp ever made and very scooped.

Yeah the Peaveys are more aggressive in the mids for sure I always think the EVH sit between Peavey and Engl compression wise

Boosted lead channel on the 6505+ for sure. But the EVH beat it out for both the clean and rhythm channels. That Peavey has something magic though. I love mine. It's raw, and dark, and just evil sounding in a way that the more polite EVH just isn't.

Yeah the Peavey is more aggressive less smooth but I’m the room the EL34s seems to have more punch which I didn’t think was possible

@@NinecoreNeil yeah rhythm channel wise, I think the EVH is the better sound. Because the EL34 seem to be a little punchier in the mids, but one thing to remember is that most people use the red channel of the 6505 Plus for both rhythm and lead, so with a good boost you're pretty much all set with that amp! The other thing to remember is that the PV 5150/5152 line of amps were already compressed as fuck, and the EVH amps take that an multiply that so when you go for the Peavey you end up with an amp that is less forgiving so it will make your chops better and reward you for it.
