i like when Jay says "and that's real horsepower" ... in the good ol' American way of horsepower and measuring, 300 hp means more like 500. especially back in the day of a certain era :))) another nice clip right here , keep up the grat work you guys at Jay's and everyone else involved ! i've been a big fan of yours for years and really enjoy and appreciate the things you do for us car nuts! greetings from germany.

Might be SAE gross horsepower when 505HP was more like 375HP NET. It'd adjust down more or less depending on the additional equipment and horsepower robbing obstacles they run into actually putting that engine into the car muffled, accessoried, etc.

@Barberdan that was an all out race car they wouldn't put any "power-robbing" accessories in that thing it not for the street you don't have to have it smogged and you don't have to have all of that "Eco-friendly" crap on it. They put a 505HP motor in that thing and they got 505HP out of it

TheKizzyfish They tend to pay quite a bit more than the vehicles are worth when a charity car is auctioned off. I suspect that there are tax breaks in play when it's all said and did

considering this is a purpose built race car, there are very few power robbing accesories. most of these old race cars don't have power steering or even an alternator/generator. so the only real loss of power from the crank to the rear wheels would be in the driveline and they probally did everything humanly possible to reduce driveline loss. so 505hp Gross is probalby near 450-475hp to the wheels.

Still pretty impressive for 1970! The bearing, cam, and valvetrain technology wasn't what it is now. A lot harder to make even a little engine like that wind up to 8000.
