Having constructed a loco based loosely on photos of a Ruston NG diesel, it is now ready for its first test run. The body and chassis are 3D printed, the motor is a 12v 25GA307 geared motor (170RPM) linked through bevel gears to the axle. It has Delrin chain drive for the second axle and is powered by two 14500 (AA sized) lithium ion cells. That geared motor should make it a strong smooth runner!

I like your custom chassis design! If anything, it's very accurate to the real Ruston locos, with the chain drive and all.

Excellent, looks and sounds fantastic. Look forward to seeing more of it soon! 🙂

Very nice Rik. The sound is quite acceptable.

Very nice! Sounds fine to me! Some black and grime on the chassis, then after the company name and running number, weathering - plenty of rust on the Ruston I'd say too😉🙄😲😀😀😀👍✌️💜

We need more videos Rik. I'm getting withdrawal symptoms. Kind regards Peter.

Hi Peter. At last, we are having some d cent weather. I am presently sitting in the garden, consuming my evening meal and a glass of wine, after spending the afternoon filming yet another video. I might have to finish it off tomorrow but, as they say, watch this space!

Another diesel, interesting. Might this Ruston become the resident maintenance engine to run alongside Lolly, perchance? Keep up the great work - Alex.

Not decided where it will be deployed yet. Pottering or mainline duties? Maybe a bit of both. I'm trying to decide where to put the lead weights. Might even try casting outriggers for the sides and buffer beam weights as in the real thing.

I wonder if you could possibly give me some advice. I regularly assist a blind chap local to me...who has a glorious gauge one railway in his garden. We've had issues with one loco (made rc by Peter Spoering/ Deltang tx21 / ar600), whereby the loco started to lose its binding with the controller. As its a tiny 14xx I had to dismantle the whole loco to enable binding again, only for it to lose its bind once power removed from each. I subsequently sought out an ar500 as I assumed the receiver at fault ...and the same thing happens. As someone who has often mentioned that you use deltang controls , should I simply assume transmitter module is faulty (although I believe these aren't being made anymore which is another problem!) , or is there anything else to check that could cause this unbind when powered down symptom? Your help would be much appreciated. Kindest regards Gary

Hi Gary. Yes, it does sound as if the transmitter module has developed a fault. Try contacting Phil@rctrains.co.uk or Andy at Micron RC (sales@micronradiocontrol.co.uk). They might be able to help but, as you say, the Tx modules are very scarce. However, I know Andy is working on a compatible replacement. Rik

@@rikbennett9 Rik Id just like to thank you once again - I have had the loco in bits....and the transmitter...and subsequently phoned Andy as you suggested. He certainly knows his gear. Turns out there was a software bug that can sometimes be 'switched on' with the tx units. This means that every power on it changes the coding, and this state remains. Ive at least done a work around for now by passing the loco back with an external hidden switch connected to the bind pins. This allows binding to take place at every session. In due course Im sure the owner will ask me to order a new compatible tx from Andy. Kindest regards Gary

Nice one, must admit its a little weird seeing a wide Ruston when all they'd do is fit large extensions on the side. But the my own Bole Laser Craft Ruston is slightly off-scale so its not too bad
@rikbennett9
@rikbennett9 Месяц назад
Yes. I created this before I had drawings so it is a bit bloated width wise. I've now redrawn the body so it's more in scale but, to fit the chassis it's going to have a wider frame. Some of their early locos had bespoke wide frames before they decided to fit extensions. Well, that's my rationale.

Very nice model but What has happened to the water mill in the background

Well spotted. The miller takes a break off season and, for reasons only he can explain, he takes the mill with him....😁
