Paulo Freire’s book, The Pedagogy of the Oppressed is overviewed by Dr. Beverly Yuen Thompson in this video. His four chapters focusing on the Oppressor-Oppressed social context; the banking model of education; “the word” of language and education; and praxis are the focuses of each of the four chapters in the book. Beverly assigns this book in her sociology courses in order to see what insights this theory can provide for those of us currently living inside the educational institution. Is there any liberatory potential in the future o f the educational institution?

While listening to your review, i remembered the term of Louis Althusser's "the ideological means of the state" . Another concept that I also thought in the sense of oppressor and oppressed is Hegel's "Lord-bondsman dialectic" Thanks for review.

Thanks for the theoretical connections! I don't get around to much philosophy; and also he did not have any sources in the book, come to think of it, to connect to these historical concepts.

Oh yeah definitely makes me relate this to Hegel. And those right after him who used his theories.
