We put together a couple of pedalboards for two key workers in need of some tone help.
Life too short for long RU-vid videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
Welcome to the show. Coronavirus / Covid-19 has affected the whole world in seismic proportions. Those of who aren’t key workers have felt a little bit helpless: staying at home, or maybe getting some shopping for a vulnerable neighbour is about as much as we can do, other than some charity donation here and there. What we’re doing here isn’t making a big difference to many, but it is our tiny way of acknowledging our gratitude to the key workers and front-line staff.
Dan put out a post on Facebook asking if there were key workers in need of some tone help. We picked two people at random from the responses and built them a small board each, using stuff either from our personal stash of gear, or kindly donated by the manufacturers. Massive thanks to everyone involved!
It’s a little bit of good news for the people involved, and hopefully some handy pedalboard building advice for everyone else.
Please enjoy the show.

Such a pleasure and honour to have one of my pedals involved in this superb idea and on Patrick's board! Many thanks Mick, Dan and the TPS team for doing this... but even more to Patrick and all the frontline key workers who are pushing so hard and taking care of us all during these challenging times. Peace, love and beautiful noise to all from my little makeshift lockdown workshop at home here in Eastbourne, Neil

Thank you much TPS guys. Keith is my brother in law and he is made up with your gift for him. He is a lovely guy, a talented bass player and dedicated to his work. As a frontline essential services worker, I just want to say thanks for recognizing those of us who are out there doing what needs to be done to keep our fragile civilisation chugging along during this crisis. It doesn't matter who you picked - it's the recognition factor :) (but you picked two of the best, I'd say!). ...and I just bought like 3 pedals and a pedalboard organiser kit today with my bonus, so...yay? Yep. yay. Onya, Patrick & Keith. Northern Ireland represent (the old man was an Ulsterman - middle name Patrick, ofc) :) )!

Fantastic episode reflecting the generosity of spirit that you guys always exude in bucket loads. Thanks to all the front line workers, in particular the bunch at the DWP and local authorities dealing with first time Universal Credit Claims and Council Tax benefit claims from people like myself who lost work due to Covid-19 cut backs. Thankfully I've now been offered a new job and will be back in the saddle working in supported housing soon. Keep up the awesome Dan and Mick, you've been the difference during this period of time off work so Thank You!!

Well done, guys. At 28:20 - I've been really pleased with 3M Command Picture Hanging Strips instead of the heavy duty 3M Dual Lock. Well done everybody!!!! This is by far my favourite TPS episode. It's so easy to forget about each other even under normal circumstances let alone during this devastating upheaval that we have all had to endure. I look around me and see so many small acts of kindness everyday that I just didn't see/notice before. It has restored much of the faith, hope and love that I felt was missing from the world. But most important of all it has made me realize that I can make a difference by being a more compassionate person, all I needed to do was take a genuine interest in all the people that inhabit my environment on a day to day basis. Thank you especially Dan and Mick. TPS has really become more than a show about pedals and gear and all of that. Your comradeship, humility, respect and love for one another is a rare thing indeed especially so on the internet. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Community feeling Owen. Being of use to others is what makes us happy. Mick here. Self obsession, self-centredness and egocentrism are the causes of all pain and suffering, mental health issues and collective unconscious insanity. All the shit in the world. I'm talking generally, not about this show specifically because people who put themselves on the internet have a lot of self-centredness and egocentrism about them, us included. Recognising it is the first step to fixing it and I'm actively working on it. Cheers!

Thanks Mick! I couldn't agree more. It's clear that TPS keeps you very busy but I find myself wondering if you've ever considered writing a book about philosophy and it's link to music. I've found you're perspective most valuable as clearly many others do. The vlogs especially have highlighted to me that you have a real nack for these types of discussion's. The more I read about philosophy the more I realize how vitally important it is. I can't understand why it is so overlooked by many. Anyway just wanted to put that thought out their. I think the six string community would benefit from having a Socrates , Spinoza or Schopenhauer. Or perhaps That Philosophy Show!!

As a bass player (I'll do my best to exercise restraint from asking any bass effects-related questions), a Mix/Blend control is 100% a blessing for bass! IME for a lot of effects, something of 30-50% of the effect works pretty well alongside the clean signal (which retains the low end that is often removed by some effects). What a wonderful return to the studio- really great to see you both in the same room. And a heartwarming episode to see two very deserving people receive great boards-this has made my day.

Great video guys! As an acute dialysis nurse in the US, I know the people really appreciated your kindness. Think you might send some across the pond to us in the US?

That was a wonderful thing, and the smiles on the recipients faces were priceless. I can see how the Mimiq didn't fit for the goal but when it came on it was the first time passively listening to a Mimiq used where I jolted to a wait what was that and went backwards a few times to repeat the section. I just got a Mimiq myself, and wasn't expecting to see it in mono and be so inspired. Thank you Mick, Thank you Dan

You'd be amazed what you can stuff onto a Pedaltrain Nano. But I really think it was meant to use with the Volto battery system. I'd shown mine to Matt Schofield back when he was "simplifying" and just putting pedals on the floor, and he thought it was a great idea to have something where you can just pull it out of the bag and drop it on the floor. But I see that he ended up with a GigRig supply anyway. Maybe he was concerned about not being able to recharge the system in between travel dates. But for light gigging and blues jams it works out awesome. Stuck at home I just hook it up every couple of days and it's all good. With 6 pedals there might have been a risk of ground loops or noise but I've not had any problems so far. Analog stuff from one output and digital from the other.

Perfect choice with the mi audio crunchbox v2. It does every hi gain Marshall tone imaginable, running 18v internally so it sounds like an amp.

Love the eyeglass repair Dan :) Thanks to your vlog I've started singing triads and scale fragments and you may have created a monster here! Big ups to you guys for all you've done through this, and for being responsible in your treatment of the dangers. The good examples are always great to see and if all this has saved one life it's been worth it! Stay safe guys, and all around you as well.

Another awesome episode! Thanks for spreading the goodwill and recognising frontline workers. We have a 4 piece rock band in the mental health hospital for adolescents where I work and are in the process of setting up a dedicated practice room. We've continued to accompany patients with their playing and singing, despite restrictions on aircon and wearing PPE... (You might say masks improve our vocals 😂). It's more important than ever that we stay connected, stay inspired and stay safe.

SOOOOOO fantastic of you guys to do this! Such a great show of respect and gratitude for those who risk their safety every day for others. Its one of the many things that makes TPS, such a great show on! And its so great to see you guys together again! I'm imagining a hand sanitizer-slathered, paper suit and face mask-wearing man hug when you guys finally got to see each other again! Hahaha!
