Those are actually Siemens electronic bells. They're pretty much the same as the Safetran electronic bell, but they have a smaller base. I own both a Safetran and a Siemens.

The safetran e-bells are now extremely common in Australia. A lot of mechanical bells ie. Western Cullen Hayes and Westinghouse bells are now but a memory

I remember filming here on Christmas day in 2016. It was certainly worth it. You can imagine how funny the bells would sound when there is a crossover.

in 2012 when the old blue trains were running there use to be wch e bells and no safetran and one mechanic and one wch

I have not seen any crossings with these equipment I only see WCH E bells and WCH barriers and the original lights although I’m in Australia now so I should be able to see different types of bells and equipment now.

These signals have gone through a few bells over the years. Orignally, The griswold bells that you see here use to be for each side (One on the upmain signal) and (One on the downmain signal). When the station got upgraded, They put in these funny looking brackets so each side had two bells, The downmain got the griswold bells, And the upmain got two WCH e-bells. In 2014, One of the WCH e-bells gave up, And that's when the first safetran e-bell got installed, And for a while after that the upmain signal had mixed matched e-bells. Only recently in the last couple of months, The level crossing in Upper Hutt had an upgrade, That also had mixed matched e-bells, But had the e-bells switched with this level crossing as Upper Hutt had it's bells off setting removed and Kiwirail only use WCH e-bells at level crossings where the want the audio to be not so loud.

That crossing with one of each would most likely have been the Blenheim St Level Crossing before the Upper Hutt Station. I did wonder when I went up there recently what happened with the other safetran bell. Used to make a very nice sound with the contrasting bells :)

I have only seen Safetran bells once and that was at a crossing on Belt road in New Plymouth

That safetran E-bell actually came from Blehiem ST crossing at Upper Hutt because around 2018 Upper Hutt used to have one safetran E-bell and one Western Cullen Hayes E-bell just like this one but they have took out the safetran E-bell from Upper Hutt and moved it to this level crossing and moved the Western Cullen Hayes E-bell to Upper Hutt.

The mechanical bells was loudest than e-bells

There are safe Tran e bells in Rangiora.

I like how the railroad company didn't care about the fact they stopped installing those safetran e-bells and kept them because they're well, E-bells.
