When I was a kid and saw Pedro Martinez pitch, I was amazed how the ball changed direction from side to side the way it did. I've never seen anything like that before or since. With that being said, if he says how great Ohtani is, you better believe it.

@TN-ux5rk true, but the question was specific to New York. I think he is referring to how well he hits in New York. The ball flies when he hits there. It also indicates that perhaps Ohtani wouldn't mind playing in the East Coast like everyone thinks.

@wilburwood8261 you have a point. But, his numbers as a hitter will rise. Fenway, he mentions about loving to pitch. Braves may not be pursuing Ohtani. So, saying such about Atlanta doesn't make as much of an impact. Ohtani doesn't shy away from the limelight. He's been the center of attention since high school. And, where would he get a lot more Attention? That's right. New York, where he could make the most in terms of sponsors and lucrative deals. The Dodgers do have an upper hand since its still LA and loves being closer to Japan. But, New York is not out of the equation. Most likely, Ohtani will be a Dodger next year, perhaps sooner, but to ignore New York because of cold weather is unrealistic.

Pedro doesn't quite have the longevity at his peak as say, the Big Unit, but goddam if '99 to '00 Pedro wasn't the most dominant ever before he hurt his shoulder. During the height of the roid era, too

I love Pedro and get what he's saying but that is still hyperbole to a high degree lol. From age 23-28 Pujols had 43.5 oWAR. Shohei has 17.4 from 23-28 lol. Pedro from age 23-28 amassed 46.5 WAR, Shohei has 13.6 since age 23. And Pedro was doing that against roided freaks in the peak of the steroid era. Pedro's "WAR per 162" in that stretch was 8.5 across a 6 year stretch, Ohtani's best 3 year stretch doesn't even sniff that at 6.3 per 162. Let's not make crazy comparisons and just appreciate how incredible of an athlete Ohtani is. Expecting him to be some insane combo of guys like Randy Johnson and Barry Bonds or Mays/Koufax is just silly and that is not what he is.

Last year Ohtani went 15-9 with a 2.33 ERA, with 219 Ks in 166 innings pitched. Career-wise, Ohtani is 35-18 with a .660 W-L average, with a 3.04 ERA and 573 Ks in 450 innings. He's MUCH better than an "above average" pitcher. He is an elite pitcher. As well as an elite slugger and baserunner. And what's Kersh's slugging percentage? How many home runs has Kersh hit this season? Take off your "hate blinders" and appreciate Ohtani while you can. Because he's the best baseball player the world has yet seen.
