The best part is that it just comes out of nowhere. Pee-Wee is escaping the guards from the Warner lot, but then notices the pet shop on fire and nobody else around, and decides to take action, save all the animals and be a hero!
At the end, when Pee-wee is carrying the snakes, actor Paul Reubens really hated snakes in RL, so his screams were authentic. The snakes weren't fake in that scene, as Tim Burton wanted it, so Paul Reubens trusted him with that.

@@sha11235 That's true and he must have felt that while he loves his bike more than anyone and anything else in the world, he must have felt that caring for living things is important too. Regarding him looking around, I guess he also looked around to make sure the Warner Bros. security guards were not around to be able to chase him anymore.
This scene really embodies who Pee Wee is. He's almost escaped the WB guards, and finally got his bike back. But when he sees the pet shop on fire, he abandons his bike and risks getting arrested to save all the animals! ♥
Love the fourth wall break, with Pee Wee looking at the camera thinking “Damn, I can’t put this off any longer!” Also seems targeted at the director, “Damn you Tim!”

Each time he ran past the snake cage, he knew in his heart that he had to rescue the snakes also and every time he looked at them, his look was like he was saying "too gross, I hate snakes." Then when he was coming close to getting all the animals out (he did say that there's more fish inside to the fireman and the cop), he looked at the snakes like he was saying "all the other animals are close to be free, I'm just going to have to fight myself to rescue these snakes" which he did but, I guess he was unfortunate since the monkey didn't help to carry some of the snakes.
the facial expressions every single time he passes the snakes always gets me. Then the final look breaking the 4th wall before he runs out screaming. I miss this movie...
The actors who played Sheldon and Raj on The Big Bang Theory also dont like snakes and there was a scene where Sheldon tried to prank Raj by putting a corn snake in his desk only for Raj to be a fan of snakes On the other hand Harrison Ford likes snakes and used to catch wild snakes as a kid

@TheWalOfWolfStreet I wondered that too but, maybe it was too heavy (even if the monkey helped him, they wouldn't be able to lift it together) or it was bolted down couldn't be picked up.
This movie is such a big part of my childhood. I honestly couldn’t tell you how many times I watched Pee Wee’s Big Adventure with my family and I look forward to one day sharing it with my kids. Rest in peace Paul, thank you soo much for making us laugh, I’ll never forget you 🥺 “I know what you are but what am I?”

I love how these comments are recent - most from 1-3 months ago. I guess we were all wanting to revisit a great childhood movie. What made me start binge watching the scene videos was someone on TikTok that made his own automatic breakfast machine just like the opening scene to this movie. I remember all of the words pretty much and it brings back so many good memories.
I watched something recently that said Paul was terrified of snakes. So every time he looks at them that was his actual look. Then he told Tim Burton he wanted to do the stunt with live snakes to make it better. Pee Wee Herman/Paul Reubens you are greatly missed! You gave us all so many amazing memories and laughs! @cellytron That was great how Pee Wee was kind to rescue the animals even though he was very happy to get his bike back but, I wonder if he didn't choose to rescue them and continued riding away on his bike, he would have been far away from Warner Bros. studios at that point where the Warner Bros. security guards would have felt, "he got away" where Pee Wee would have continued riding his bike to go home.
Those look like "Western Garter Snakes" and we used to catch them as kids. They have a unique and truly horrible way of defending themselves so we called them Sh!t Snakes. Also that fireman running up on Pee Wee didn't seem to be very careful of stepping on them after Pee Wee had been brave to save them.
I remember this scene as a kid. And thinking about it, pee wee saved all the animals including the snakes even though he hates snakes (in movie and irl) and that displays so much character in pee wee.
I love how reluctant Peewee was at first to save the snakes, which is clearly understandable, seeing how he really didn't want to touch those snakes, but finally, after rescuing all the other pets, he was like, "Screw it!" and saved the snakes anyway.
Look at the fish tank next to the snake tank right before PW finally decides to take the snakes. It looks like it is still full of fish, yet he took a lot for the fishbowl.

That movie was my childhood. I remember one time when Dad and I were at McDonald’s. And we heard Tequila playing. Dad said “it’s Pee-Wee Herman” while I was laughing. 😆

Pee-Wee becomes a hero, even though he did sabotaged all of movies at Warner Bros. Studios earlier while reclaiming his bike. Seems like Pee-Wee have more regards to animals (maybe expect for snakes, which he reluctantly saved) than people. RIP PAUL REUBENS (AKA PEE-WEE HERMAN) 1952-2023
Our world was BRIGHTENED by the sunshine when Paul was with us! There was laughter that was so SORELY needed and is even MORE NEEDED in these tumultuous days we are now living in! There was imagination, there was fantasy, and the ability for all of us to travel back to our childhood again. Paul so skillfully transported us there! Now the sunshine has gone out. But it’s gonna forever live in our hearts and through his movies. RIP, Pee Wee. You’ll never be forgotten!!

Paul Reubens aka Pee Wee has die today at the age of 70 my heart💔 is breaking right now because I grew up watching him when I was a little girl and now he is gone I can't laugh anymore😢🙏🏻.
This movie got 3 and a half stars out of 4 in a movie guide book that I have. I’d say that’s pretty impressive, but it makes sense.This movie is incredible!!
Good question! In a tiny cage, no less. I'm hoping it was for cinematic value and chimps didn't actually get sold in pet stores like that in the eighties (though I know some people keep them as pets to this day). I find them pretty terrifying, but the one in this scene is cute as hell helping Pee Wee!
@Emily's Bookshelf I agree, that sounded weird to have a chimpanzee sold in the pet shop to have as a pet. I can only guess that the owner of that pet shop must also be part time as a circus ringleader and that chimpanzee was part of his circus but just wasn't for sale.
@rckblzr12 Well, maybe he was trying to get it over with to save the snakes but each time he looked at them, he refused. However, once he got most of the animals out (only a few fish left as he said at the end not shown here), he probably decided to force himself to rescue the snakes.
Did anyone find this very dark and disturbing when they were little? Just the thought of all those animals trapped in a burning building. It was dark. I liked the rest of the movie though
