Jez and Super Hans join the 'New Wellness Centre' which is in no way, whatsoever, based on creepy UFO cult 'Scientology'. Likewise, Orgones (paging Willhelm Reich!) certainly don't resemble 'Body Thetans' and New Wellness founder 'Soloman Hunt' is over 9000 million miles away from being anywhere close to loony Dianetics guru L Ron 'Elrond' Hubbard. As usual Super Hans gets all the best lines: "You gonna stay in the Death Star with Captain Haddock?" being a particular classic.
Just to reiterate then: New Wellness - bizarre and oppressive cult based on absurd pulp Sci-Fi ramblings of third rate hack writer.
Church of Scientology - Legitimate religion and humanitarian organiza....oh, fuck this. I'm going clear.

Here in the USA there are tons of MLM pyramid marketing schemes, and the same people always start them and make millions, and the same people buy into it and buy a bunch of stuff that sits in their garage, often vitamins, milkshakes, knives, or colorful clothing for woman that nobody would wear. There are "sucker lists" of people that repeatedly fall for that shit, like Jez. Not to mention Bernie Madoff and the US dollar, at the elite scamming level.

It's quite tempting to view Hans as so hedonistic, shallow and sociopathically cruel that he stands out from Mark and Jez, but the series is packed with moments where both of 'em were just as horrible. Hans is just unapologetic.

Well there’s a theory that super Hans and Johnson represent what both jez and mark want to be. Jez wants to be the hard liver, drugs and girls and the such. Whilst mark wants to be like Johnson, confident and outspoken, however they both end up failing to become what they want to be.

It's telling how he needs to go through a whole "Mark will think..." thought process before saying to Super Hans that he'll move in to the center. Jez really struggles with independence and standing on his own two feet. Not that Mark is really that different: they both tend to form symbiotic relationships that offer escapes from their loneliness and responsibility for their own lives. Mark just rationalizes things better and clings to his sensibility like a lifeline. Not that I'm really judging them, I think it's painful to watch them partly because of how relatable they can be.

I actually took that Scientology test. I got as far as the question "When you look at a train timetable, how does it make you feel?" Suddenly I realised I'd just wasted 5 minutes of my life and it was not a funny or interesting thing to do. Thinking back the phrasing of that question sounds like something a therapist would say (at least the 2nd part) and they're the industry Scientologists are trying to eradicate
