crazy how similar their heads look to leaf cutter ants, guess theyre using the same muscle groups for those massive jaws, so so cool
@joshyoung1440
@joshyoung1440 28 дней назад
Quite, uh... quite an odd guess that arachnids would have the same setup of muscle groups as ants... don't spiders not use muscles but instead use a hydraulic system throughout their limbs to extend them? And they have an open circulatory system? Or is that just tarantulas?
@joshyoung1440
@joshyoung1440 28 дней назад
Also those heads do not look like leafcutters at all 😂 they just happen to both have long mouthparts but they're literally not even the same mouthparts, I don't think ants have chelicerae...

I retract my statement it’s not leaf cutter ants that look like that but I could have sworn that there was an ant species that look like that

Its wild to think that trillions of them died before their fangs got long enough to not be bitten back.

Hurray! We call them assassin spiders here in Australia and no one seems to know about them outside of here. They are tiny! In fact all our coolest spiders could fit on your pinkie nail. Things like the spitting spider and the peacock spiders. Also Portia and the silver drop spiders and goblin spiders 🧸

Red backs are cool looking. How big are those?
@joshyoung1440
@joshyoung1440 28 дней назад
@@paytonallen1027 much larger. They and their cousin black widows both have beefy legs and large powerful bodies with bulbous abdomens and extremely strong silk. I live in SoCal and can identify black widow webs by touch, just by feeling how firm and stiff they are

I've always liked spiders, frogs, and snakes. When I was 5 I played with black widows. I would capture them and then release them. I started catching snakes when I was 7. I would take them inside and show my mother. I released them back outside. I never got bit. I guess i was a odd little girl.

Is there anything in Australia that a spider can't turn into? Like, who would've thought of a spider in the shape of a pelican. What's next, dragon spiders?
@joshyoung1440
@joshyoung1440 28 дней назад
Btw, "chelicerae" is pronounced chel-iss-er-EE. A lot of people don't know this, but "ae" makes an "e" sound in Latin. Easy to remember: "Aether" is pronounced "ether." Cool as it might sound, there is no proper Latin or English word pronounced "ay-ther."

It looks fucking horrendous the way it perfectly hunts spiders and stabs it before the spider can even react makes it so gross to me for some reason ik that thing is perfectly adapted to hunting spiders and probably can’t hurt me but I’m more freaked out by that than any spider
