thats what you get, when economic model implies endless growth and eternal lifespan of a company. Said it before and i'll keep saying it - rarlab guys were right. Made the product, called it done.
I think they would have been fine if they ONLY focused on the bike (reducing costs) and subscriptions. Instead, they tried to move beyond to make more products knowing damn well how hard the bike alone was and how many more of those they could sell overtime.
Company still has a huge amount of potential… they got a huge boost from the pandemic… and that may have hurt them… but their customers are extremely loyal and the customer retention rate for subscriptions is the highest of any company out there.. higher than Netflix
Honestly Páraic has been yapping and talking about how we should make a Peloton video for months - but thank you for being part of the reason he got his way 🙌
The creators have already cashed out their stock. Internally they knew it was a sinking ship and they been selling way before the stock crashed. Hundreds of millions in their executives pockets , others are left holding the bag.
I think this company has the potential to surprise us all in a decades time. The product still has a massive potential. I can see them installing millions in gyms. They should think about intergrating Apple and Google fitness stuff. The watch is great, but together with the data of the bike, your results would be much more accurate I can imagine.
Oh god, warning around the 14:20 mark. I looked away but I think that image is going to stay with me forever. I really hope that is not video of the actual casualty. I feel sick. I was writing another comment but yeah no. EDIT: Found the source - parents have interviewed about how that kid experienced serious burns, but survived. The news sources have a warning about intense violent images though.
I think it still ×works as a bike but you obviously don't get access the classes and others features so what you essentially have is a bare bones stationary bike which you could buy similar for $300 or $400.
This is the first time you've heard about Peloton 😱 Also since you were one of the first comments you get an invite to Caya's group office hours. Reach out to our Community Manager, Páraic, and he will give you all the details. His email is paraic@slidebean.com
I have used the app for 1 month done 116 classes, I have done classes every day. I do think that it is hard in the market to compete there fixed £12.99 a month when other apps do £99 a year. even though peloton has more classes. the app for the tv is different than the app for the tablet or phone. but i do very much like it. I cant afford the bike nor the £39 a month when gyms in the UK are as little as £15 and have far more bits of equipment. I think that pricing for the full should not be £39 a month but £15 for 1 person £25 for 2 £32 for 3 and £39 for 4 or more in the same household. they should move to trying to get more people by setting a lower cost and bring in more people just like netflix £5.99 pricing. don't price the masses out of exercise. there are lots of people who can not go to a gym.
Or just hear me out this this is just a simple idea you could watch any of the hundreds of instructors who have produced the thousands of videos on RU-vid detailing exactly how to do every single exercise ever thought of and the Very greatest kicker about this it's free
Peloton's core product was always 'a stationary bike with an iPad/tablet' from the start. What is a miracle is that it took millions of people and billions of dollars to finally understand it!
How does a company fall so quickly…. Could it be they based it on the model of building a cult, except suddenly the victims saw the error of their ways and fled like rats fleeing a sinking ship 🤷🏻♂️
I mean... There is a thin line between a cult and a community and a lot of different companies build themselves around a sense of community and fellowship. In this case, it seems more like a mix of marketing mishaps and unforseen circumstances. The same pandemic that drove their demand also made their products really expensive and hard to deliver and they ended up making long term investments to fulfill short term demand and as soon as that demand dried up, they were left holding the bag.
I think that you are exaggerating what happened. It is a product for a niche market that because of the pandemic got waaaay bigger than it should and after the pandemic they rethoric they had was of keeping the growth while they should have focused on their core customers, the ones that will be left after all the pandemic shenanigans ended
Quite amusing... a road bike cost $2k is considered affordable and an entry level bike. Both Peloton and Cycling industry booming during pandemic. Out of the pandemic boom... Peloton are forced to lower their spin bike price but the cycling industry keep increasing their bike price. An alloy Specialized Allez Sprint frame now cost $1.7k... not even a full bike and it's way more expensive than the current Peloton spin bike price.
First of all, why tf would I need a trainer for a bike session ? It's not like my dad never taught be how to ride a bicycle when I was a kid ! Also you can get decent bikes on amazon for as low as $300. $1500-2000 sounds like a stretch.
About peloton I think the hype was crazy from the beginning. I just can’t see what’s the moat of this company. Apple can replicate the whole experience in a week
Same. But makes sense, you must invest back to make your products cheaper and more accessible and not overhype it. Especially if it's a product that people buy once like this exercise bike.
@@singularityraptor4022 companies have been making bikes and treadmills for ages now making lots of money while at it without subscriptions. Like I get what you are saying but that's goes more to show how the companies want to put out a subscription model for anything when it's not really necessary. Peloton did have a market. I think it's more about a business that got way bigger to what it actually could be
@@sergioccs74 True, instead of making bikes with screens, they could have just sold the tablet or just the software. Like Netflix for workout or something.
It wasn't innovative, I think it's more the execution: great coaches, community, you participate live in the classes, the coaches talk to you and others in the class directly - I kinda wished Apple Fitness would be like that instead of just pre-recorded lessons I can find on RU-vid.
Zwift has 3 million rider more worlds than them and expanding. Riding with pros friend people across the globe for $15 per month all you need one investmemt of a smart trainer and your good.
👕👕👕👕👕👕👕👕👕👕👕👕👕 So basically their problem was they underestimated the success of the products and services; and while the lockdowns increased demand it also killed them because they couldn't get the product to customers. Then they panicked and made massive financial blunders only thinking short-term not long-term.
Peltons consumer base quickly turned into a pretentious cult. While it is a great product you definitely get the elitist vibe from them now and it's pretty off putting to causal consumers and people that already own one and don't want to be grouped in with those people. Pelton went from being just a work out machine to somewhat of a status symbol and getting ripped on by those that see it as such.
The video seems unfair, Peleton's stock today is at 35USD, in March 2020 it was at 20USD, that's... great! - sure they had a huge artificial spike with the pandemic, but now that's normalised and they can keep growing at a more manageable pace as a luxury brand with a specific target audience (disclaimer: I've never owned or tried a Peloton)
It was never a perfect product for our times. The vast majority of Americans don't workout. Then the ones that do like to go to the gym because it is a social area.

It's a stupid ideea you don't need fancy equipment or "instructors" to be in shape you don't need even a gym ... but people are lazy and prefer to spend stupid money on useless programs instead of eating right workin out body weight only and spend the money on things that count like traveling experiences etc
