I remember thinking Cirque du Soleil shows were dumb when I was younger. Went to Vegas and had to go watch Ka with my girlfriend. My mind was blown and I loved every minute of Ka.
When you talk about Cirques' shows like Ka, I almost start to cry. That's my deepest joy and passion coming to the surface. I have only had the gift of seeing their productions twice in my life. Cirque moves my earth, and it takes me to the deepest place of imagination and joy of being alive. Cirque is a RARE thing. Some art forms, nature, and seeing the earth from space bring out the same deep joy fir me. I hope they have a come back and never leave. I want to see more of their shows. Thankyou for such a passionate and well produced video. I was truly engaged.
7:00 I was there, I was a little girl though. I was probably 7 years old or so. I didn’t see her fall, but I remember one guy who was on the wall. He was looking down, and screaming. Even though he was being pulled up, and the lights had turned back on, and everyone was being ushered out, he was still screaming. I remember asking someone that was escorting everyone out what had happened. She said something along the lines of “the shows canceled.” I had always assumed that the guy had broken his leg, somehow. I asked my mom afterwards “ what happened? “ and she told me that nothing had happened, that was the end of the show. She told me a few minutes ago what really happened. She had seen her fall. Honestly, the only thing I really remember is the guy on the wall. This whole time I thought he was screaming, but he was crying. Really loud crying.
I was there. I was 7 years old, though. Honestly, the only thing I remember is the one guy left on the wall, looking down and crying. Then I remember being ushered out. At the time, I didn’t really know what was happening. I only found out someone had died a few minutes ago. Until then I assumed that he had broken his leg or something. I don’t remember much from the show itself, due to it being so long ago. But from the clips I’ve seen of the new and revamped version, they upgraded their safety and the choreography. So that’s good
The "Grand cirque de Chine" (no animals) was clearly an inspiration. CDS designed costumes, makeup and wrote storyline... and voila you got something different! Then they quickly founded a school to have a constant flow of young artists for their shows. They were brilliant.
I was lucky to go to a Cirque Du Soleil performance just before the pandemic hit and it was quite magical. I don't think the quality was poor before the pandemic hit, but they did have a lot of shows touring and as a result a lot of overhead which must have hurt a lot with global lockdowns. I just hope they have a strategy to re-open once the world reopens a bit more.
They have. They don’t have as many shows open, but they redid Alegria, kept the permenant shows, and cut down on the traveling shows. It’s much harder to get casted now because of the cut down, but they kept the cream of the crop, which rightfully so. I miss Saltimbanco, but I’m so glad they kept Kooza, Kurios, and Bazaar. I’m dragging my mom across the state to go see Bazaar this month, actually. Very excited to see them again and support them.
They are coming back stronger than ever, I went to joya in playa del carmen in December 2021 and I must say, they have not lost their shine at all. they are slowly starting to tour and to bring back their best acts. I for once I’m exited to see them again.
3:25 I thought you were gonna say Saltimbanco (1992 - 2012). That show to me changed the circus tent FOREVER. I mean so did the shows before like Nouvelle experience (1989 - 1993)
Agree with this. The three touring shows before Dralion (Saltimbanco, Alegria and Quidam) were more artistically beautiful with much better acts. Dralion wasn't that innovative as a production as it looked like a dressed up Chinese circus. But what Dralion gets credited for was exposing Cirque to the masses as they brought it to more major cities around the USA and the rest of the world where the previous touring shows only played very few select markets repeatedly. On the first leg of their tours, Saltimbanco, Alegria and Quidam only performed in 12-15 cities across the USA and Canada over a two year run. With Dralion, they brought the show to 32 major cities across the continent over a five year run giving the company massive exposure in the early 2000s.
Saltimbanco was the first Cirque show I saw! It wowed me. About twenty years later and I still do aerial arts. It’s so addictive and I can’t imagine not having the mobility and freedom these shows encouraged me to strive for.
Excellent and detailed background work Caya and Team, topped with nice passionate delivery. I can say the same for myself taking many family members and friends to different shows ~ Love Cirque. AND..another very interesting sidenote Cirque is well positioned as a prime example of Blue Ocean Strategy. Of which I am a fan of as well. Cheers to an amazing 2022 - to everyone!
Beyond finances I am disabled and yet in love with Cirque Du Soleil I will never be able to go see one and I really wish they would have the recordings up for sale to purchase digitally I would buy every single one (own all the music albums released) and watch them all the time, Varekai is my favorite.
I saw O ir was unbelievable never saw the most making bodies do the most amazing diving into water and literally flying across the air with the most beautiful costumes and it was just a dream .
I saw a few shows in Barcelona before the first lockdown. They were both very good. We also watched their more or less weekly youtube uploads during the lockdown. Most being full shows and some being compilations. I think it gave them some much needed revenue.
I just went to The Beatles Love show in Las Vegas this weekend for my moms birthday and I absolutely loved every second of it. I hope to attend more of their shows in the near future!
I saw them when I was a kid. I love seeing people fly. But they should have kept the company smaller, and taken better care of their performers. I was a ballet dancer for eight years, so have a fraction of an idea of what those people give of themselves.
Quidam was my Ka. And then I saw La Nouba, and Alegria. I fell in love with the 90s Cirque. As an adult i loved O. But that was the last one I got to saw.
I just got home from seeing their latest production in Gatineau, Kooza, it was wonderful. I am happy to see the company get back to their roots of smaller intimate shows with heart and well executed segments.
I have to make a few points here, For a start, cirque du soleil has and has never had animals, proudly boasting at one point it was animal free for 30 plus years, Secondly, many cirque performers make 300k plus a year for their performances, Depending upon wether it is residential ie fixed location or a touring big top, my honest belief less than 3 minutes in is that this guy applied to cirque du soleil and was rejected or he is burnt by the experience of the show
Our pleasure! Also you were one of the first comments so send Páraic, our Community Manager, an email and he will send you an invite to Caya's office hours. His email is paraic@slidebean.com. Oh and make sure that you share the video with your peers and colleagues!
As a big fan of CDS's I totally hear you on this. I really hope for them to resolve those financial issues and bring back the spark of fantasy and magic that is the circus under the sun.
I saw TOTEM in Munich in early 2020, just before the pandemic hit, and it was great. Crystal is touring Europe right now. I am going to Las Vegas soon, will check out all the shows there. Does not look too bad now.
The problem they had was they never franchise into other merchandise and streaming like Disney did with their junks, that still made them a lot of money.
La Nouba was my favorite. Took my Mom to see it for her birthday and had her convinced it was a Metallica concert almost all the way up until the show started
the problem is that art is not a business. They arrive at what make them amazing by getting Quebec government money. They rode the debt and investment train as far as that can take you when they give you dumb money and then what? For Art to be sustainable it has to be divorce from profits.
You missed that there have been plans on doing a whole park with Cirque du Soleil. This was before the pandemic. They have a relationship with Grupo Vidanta. However, I don’t know if the current political scandal in Mexico will hit Grupo Vidanta and their plans.
On 2002 in a inner company reunion for to have a talk with Guy Laliberté, in front of 500 employees I've asked him one question that shown everyone how much lack of humanity he had in fact, compare to the fake charisma he had built over the years, & that was the end of the big lie. The magic was dead, it had to be known.

I have seen cirque de soleil live and enjoyed.I watch it regularly on tv which still enthrals-so to the statement that it is no longer of interest is pure rubbish.
“I grew up so poor and family were immigrants with no money. But I wen to Vegas and spent a ton of money when I was 21” If let to talk long enough all you success story guys eventually tell on yourselves and reveal your family wasn’t so lower class as you say you were.
What an annoying comment. Honestly, screw you for making have to clarify this. - I’ve never said I was poor. - I grew up in Costa Rica, not as an immigrant. - Got a job at 17 which I used to pay for college. 4 years later I saved up for my first visit to the US as an adult.
@@cayahere you def said in prior videos that you didn’t grow up rich and parents didn’t have means. You replied so you know there’s truth to the deception I’ve pointed out. I win
@@cayahere no one is saying you didn’t work hard, but you didn’t start at the bottom or even the middles. My friend whose parents have a garage more luxurious than most peoples homes does the same thing. He always tries to pretend he’s poor when I know how many bedrooms his house has. He worked his ass off but he had a head start. No one faults him for it but for some reason he wants to represent otherwise. You’re doing the same thing.
Yeeep I agree, Caya didn’t start from the bottom or from the middle ... his father was a professional soccer player in Costa Rica (one of the most important in the country), so part of Caya's childhood was in Germany. He paid for his college, but at the most expensive animation college in CR (Veritas). He said in other videos that he's a graphic designer, but honestly I’m not sure if he has a degree on that. So yeep... he is "upper class" when compared to the standard Costa Rican population.
Terrible video. You’ve allowed personal feelings and opinions to colour your story and omit truths. I guess like all media you spin a story to garner emotions. Referring to Cirque still being on the downside and not as good as it was is your opinion mate. You’ve not even mentioned shows, reviews, numbers, success outside your own bubble. Crystal just performed in Australia with shows completely sold out and Luzia which isn’t until December 2024 have almost all their shows sold out a full year before it opens. You need to include all the information and balance the facts….. oh wait you just want views and click bait….
