Didn't they maybe take this inspiration from the Gotham series? I think it was season 1 or 2, where Falcone's daughter is planning to take over his empire. Where she seduces Gordon into helping her. Regardless, it's pretty cool.

Art direction reminds me of Batman the Animated Series. God, I miss Kevin Conroy sooo much. November 10th will mark second anniversary of his passing. I got a voice acting background and his voice was an inspiration for me since BtAS.The vocal training was tough, without noticeable results but actors like them re a great impulse to not give up: was almost Leon in new RE games :)

The only thing I can say about "The Penguin" is that I predicted a long time ago that I think this will be the best streaming series of 2024, and the 1st episode did not disappoint. I really like this one!

A couple of corrections Charlie. A) Penguin doesn't kill Carmine in the Matt Reeve's movie. He makes it clear that he didn't shoot. B) Vic actually cuts off Al's pinky. Penguin makes reference to it while they enjoy their drinks. Not his ring finger.

Sofia is terrifying BUT I absolutely loved how Oz started laughing when he heard her scream at discovering her brother’s body. You could really see the sickness that revels in pain and violence swirling in his gut.

I watched this last night after the first two episodes of Agatha. Penguin blows away Agatha, hands down. The latter relies upon surprise appearances of certain characters and the implied promise of more to come. Basically, they're milking the shared universe concept and that's about 70% of the show's appeal and it's all novelty. Penguin was brilliant. The acting, the script, the sets, the coloration and production design were all brilliant and I'm sure I'm leaving some things out. This show felt like a feature length film in terms of its quality. I'll take that one step further and say it felt like a feature length film by Scorsese at his best. Side note. I think the brilliance of this being part of the Batman elseworld thing is brilliant because the person watching realizes there's no need to mentally pose questions like "Why don't they just call Superman?" and things of that nature. You have a very human hero in Batman, although not in this series if I heard right. You have very human villains like Penguin or, in the upcoming film, the Joaquin Phoenix Joker. It's a very grounded approach to the superhero genre and executed to near perfection.

@@daddydojang - I heard the same but that Phoenix and Gaga totally pull it off. Or, as Nicholson quoted Lennon in The Departed... "Give me a f'n tuba and I'll get something out of it." I have faith in the creative team over there and absolutely plan on investing in the free stream that will be online right after release and will watch it again when it streams on Max, which I do actually pay for.

I think aesthetically Gotham's look follows the lead of the Rocksteady games. You could tell Reeves was huge fan of the games, especially when The Batman encounters that first gang in the movie. Those gang members were plucked right out of the games. Cudos to Charlie..I was scratching my head as to who Mark Strong played after I saw his name in the credits.

I think hbo only released the first episode on thursday to undercut Agatha. I think it shows how much confidence they have in its quality. Funny how streaming is becoming more and more like traditional tv. Execs are going for the kills now.

Wait, so they changed who killed Carmine Falcone? In the movie it was the Riddler who shot him. They're also changing the number of kids Falcone had? Because Selina Kyle was stated to be his daughter in the movie as well.
