At the $500 price point I’d rather do a Van Staal VR or even a Salt X. This is coming from a penn fan too. It may be too heavy to work on the beach for hours on end. I have slammers and love them but they haven’t been the reel to work for hours on the beach.
I can see the salt x but not van staal. For the price the irt reels or visser reels are better quality. The van staals are just $500 + Chinese reels. If you can find the US made ones they are good.
@@codywilliams7308 honestly if you dont dunk your reels, the penn slammer IV has been at a good price point lately I got the 3500 for like $200. I have never heard anything good about the penn torque so Im not sure what penn is doing here competing with these brand with a "fully" sealed real. I have a chinese VR 75 and it is very light and have caught multiple 30"+ fish on it. Id rather spend the $200+ I would save towards a nicer rod.
It depends how you look at it. I have the Slammer as well but comparing the same size reel the Stainless steel main gear will be more durable and last longer but the brass gear in the Slammer is durable enough plus the brass gear will be smoother.
Not sure on how I can justify buying an additional Penn. The slammer IV's literally just came out and they perform flawless. How about a trade? My new 11' black pearl invi-series net and a slammer IV 2500 for the 2500 Authority
I appreciate the offer but I don't fish live bait. It's all artis for me. Totally agree with you if you're not having any issues with the Slammer IVs then there is no reason to switch. I've been loving my Slammer IVs myself. These Authority reels aren't going anywhere lol
Of note, the handle knob on sizes 4500 and larger is metal. Not sure on 3500 size, and it is possible the larger models may have the foam handle in the box so you can use it if you prefer.
Good question. I'm not sure on the larger sizes. I would think it would be similar to how Penn does the Slammer. Like you said with the foam knob as an extra.
Is between this reel or the Twin power . Fishing hours on the beach reel starts to get heavy . Whats your opinion that you’ve had them for a while now?
I would honestly like to dunk a Twinpower and reel it underwater to get a legit answer on how durable it is compared to my Authority. I've had a great time fishing with these reels and they have performed very well. As for weight, it doesn't really bother me. I'm used to it and when you're catching fish you won't notice it. I'd say these reels are legit and hold up very well
This reels are for big harder running fish and when they strike only thing that kicks in your mind is to stop them from running no matter what . It it not for finesse application though it has smaller sizes option .
If you cannot handle the weight of this reel than how would you handle the pull of big fish.before deciding which reel to buy first you need to Go to gym and build some mussels bro.
@@eugenecassar2887 Heavy drag reels with line capacity 400-450/65-pound braid category-; Shimano Saragosa 18000= 32 oz.; Daiwa Certate 18000= 30 oz.; Slammer IV 7500= 28 oz. True that the "heavy drag" models of all brands are heavier than the others in each lineup. If lighter weight is important, PENN models from the Spinfisher VI, and especially the Clash II lineups will be lighter.
FYI I understand this reel has a two piece handle and there has been some controversy that it should be a solid one piece handle. Well I wanted to inform you guys that the Stella SW and Twin Power SW both have two piece handles. So even reels at an even higher price point still don't have a solid handle.
I've fished the VR series in the past and they were great. Side by side the Authority is smoother and has a better drag. Interested to see how it handles being dunked and put into sand
@@Jessewrightfishing Hell yeah , I couldn’t agree more. I have the VR 125 and the sound of that drag peel is amazing. I enjoyed the video bro ! Tight Lines !
very good video! I am fishing with daiwa reels and they are more smoother than Penn authority why?, I don't know, even that it has 13 bearings. does anybody know why ? thanks
This video is the only evidence of this reel's existence. Considering the price, It needs to bring a lot more to the table than a few more seals and bearings.
More specifically, its the next "step up" from the Slammer IV "DX" series [two steps above the regular Slammer IV]. It indeed has more bearings and seals, with the Slammers at IPX6 sealing, and the Authority at IPX8 sealing, for many hardcore surf anglers that is a huge deal. Both the "DX" and Authority have C-n-C machined stainless gears, but the Authority gears are larger and beefier.
LOL. You shill out for Penn and you don't know their product line. Penn reps confirmed it was discontinued on their sponsor-subforum on stripersonline. Its gone.
@@the1stvendetta Must be pretty recent. I've yet to hear anything from Penn. Definitely going to look into it. Just because I wasn't aware of something like that doesn't mean I don't know the product line. But I appreciate the information.
Penn sucks every time I give them another chance they let me down. Total garbage…. If anyone wants a new slammer let me know. All you have to do is replace the main gear and rebuild the drag.
I see you've made your way to my channel from FB. Thanks for your comment. Sorry to hear Penn hasn't met your expectations. Hopefully one day they will. Until then. Goodluck out there 👍
Personally I have 5 slammer III 's and 1 slammer IV. Zero problems with any of them. Heavily used and probably not cleaned as well as they should be. Sorry about your luck on the Penns
@@Jessewrightfishing at that price the reel should be made in the USA with American metal and not Chinese metal. 500-600$ is at the price range of Japan built dawiwa and Shimano reels.
