I just bought the penn pursuit 4 4000 late November 2021.awesome reel. I have a penn pursuit 3 6000 also. The only difference I notice is the weight. I use the 6000 for salmon and the 4000 for trout. I love both reels. The 6000 is for my shark slayer The 4000 is for my trout bruiser Lol Two of the best reels I have ever owned.
Just brought the iV one today and everyone in the tackle and bait shop said it's a good one even customers. I going out next week to test it off the boat. Awesome video.
Hi. Just got back from Bass Pro Shop looking for a surf reel. Well the guy there took me over to look at the penn pursuit 4 5000 series and he sold me on it. A combo with a 8 ft. ugly stick 167.00 $ Canadian . Was really inpressed it had a power knob where the other penn reels did not . Going to the philippines . The guy there said when he goes to Mexico. He puts his rod in the over head luggage rack. He said it fitts there . Ant way great video , and this will be my first surf fishing experience . Targetting trevally. A friend from Canada.
My pinion gear turned to dust. Only caught maybe 5 fish with it. It wouldn’t even turn and I had to hand reel in my fish 😂. I was a big pursuit fan but after reading in forums their gears are junk in the pursuits. I got a Shimano Ultegra for $160 with a cold forged one piece stamped aluminum gear and love it. Will last me 10 plus years.
for decades i was a shakespeare guy but this year i started swapping over to penn. have the pursuit4 4000, 6000, 8000 and the warfare 30lwlclh. loving the penns more than the shakespeares.
I love my Penn spinning reels, I just ordered 2 x 4000 reels just for the power handle as well. Cheers! Great review, I use mine for muskie, pike, largemouth and smallmouth, I don't fish saltwater but I love the quality, anything built to handle abuse of saltwater fishing is tops in my book.
I just got mine in size 4000 and used the Cyber Monday discount. $52 shipped to my door. Since i don't fish too much saltwater, I plan to use this for mostly a catfish reel. It's well built.
@@Airborn2volleyball I’m mainly throwing a popping cork or free lining shrimp in shallow bays. If I can find a 2500 I’ll buy the reel looks nice and Penn is quality.
Great reel for price but didn’t last me that Long Beach fishing every day started locking up about 5 months of hard abuse but threw some reel oil and grease in there and fixed it all up definitely a great reel for price point
I clean and grease my reels every few months, my Pursuit 4’a have been going strong since the day I got. I’m using 5 of them in sizes 2500, 4000, and 6000. Landed a few 4-6ft sharks on the 6000. Thanks for watching.
Just picked my combo up this from tackle shop I bought the Penn fierce 3 4000 reel I loved it wanted to to get it as 2000 they didn’t have at shop so I got this pursuit 4 rod n reel combo 3000 I love it as well
I just bought the Penn Pursuit IV 4000 travel combo. Pretty much a 4000 series reel and two peice rod with a hard Penn travel case for 99.99 at academy but when I went to check out it was only 79.99. The Penn case alone is probably worth $30 to $50 dollars so this was a steal.
Great review video! I was wanting to know the difference between the 3 and 4. I was about to purchase one for my son. You helped me so much. Thank you. I just have to make my mind up on the size.
Nice initial/first thoughts video. I feel the 4000 series Penn reels are a good in between size. I have a few bigger sized reels but like you I keep going back to the 4000 series. Looking forward to seeing more of your thoughts.
I bought the 4000, its smooth and a good reel for the price. I thought it was mislabeled as a 4000. It looks like a 2500 size reel, really small. When comparing the Penn 4000 to my Daiwa 4000, the Penn is much smaller. The spool is about half the size of my Daiwa. It looks really comical on my 7' rod. I should of bought the 5000 or even the 6000.
I run 4000’s on 12ft rods. The biggest reel I own is a 6000 and I use it to target 4-6ft sharks. For the most part a majority of the fish we target along the Alabama Gulf Coast are 3lbs and under.
Im getting one of these for my striped bass setup. I’ll be casting very far distances to get it in the spillway at the dam. Would you suggest 4000 or 5000 for this? I like the size of the 4000 but I’m worried I’ll need more space for line.
Awesome vid and review!!! I’m thinking of picking one up soon, going for 5,000 tho, I have a Pursuit iii 3000 but a tarpon just unspooled me, left me with about 8 yards off line left so can’t have that happen lol
Thank you! They are solid reels for sure, I even picked up a 6000 size to catch mid size sharks in the 4-6ft range and landed a couple 5 footers with it.
Match your reel size to your target species. I use 2500 size reels for small in close fish and 8000 size reels for sharks. 4000 size is my go to, not too big to overpower the 1-2lb fish we commonly catch but I can also fight in a 20lb fish if I work the drag and play the fish.
Pretty much, the 6000 size has a few larger size components due to the larger spool size but the main gear is the same in both. The 6000 has a line retrieval rate of 41 inches vs 36 inches for the 5000.
Almost nothing to be honest. Basically the same reel just slightly different look and the power knob does greatly improve the reel in my opinion. Amazing what such a simple change in handle design makes to a reel.
One question at 1:45 you said that it doesn't have any travel backwards and i see that you hit it and didn't came loose, i bought the combo at Walmart and it will go backwards very easy it wouldn't hold like yours, i returned it and went to look for the same combo found 3 of them and the 3 of them had the same problem, we're they all faulty or did you do something especial for it to be tight?
There shouldn’t be any play in the reel handle. It should only move forward but should immediately stop if you try to reel backwards. The odds of finding that many defective reels together is pretty slim so I think something else happened. Question: Did you check to make sure the reel handle assembly was tightened properly to the reel? If it isn’t then the handle assembly will spin backwards until it comes off the reel. Hold the spool and spin the handle forward to make sure its tightened properly.
Are you talking about slack or are you talking about the handle coming loose because my handle does seem to want to unscrew fairly easy if that's what you are talking about. Or do you mean the anti reverse isn't working?
Depends on the rod weight and target species. I mostly use 4000 size reels on my medium light action 12ft rods and my target species are for the most part fish that are 5lbs and under. I have other 12ft rods that are medium heavy and I’ll use 6000 or 8000 size reels because Im targeting big Redfish or sharks with those. Its actually a topic that needs a good bit of time to explain it all but I hope that helped a little. I may have to make a video on this topic.
Penn Pursuit 3 2500 is the best reel for the money on the market from 2018 to present. You can find the 2500 for $34.00…… nothing comes close to bang for your buck. Shimano and Daiwa don’t come close in this range.
I also agree 100%. I own a pursuit 3 3000 and a pair of 5000s, I'm heavily considering getting a pair of 8000 pursuit 4, but can't find a suitable rod for under $100.
Excellent!!! The Pursuits are amazing affordable reels. I went and bought a 6000 size Pursuit 4 for a light duty shark set up and pulled in a couple 4-5 foot Black Tips with it.
For some yes, for me no. I prefer lighter gear so the 4000 is perfect for me. I also only use a 6000 for 4-6 foot sharks. Different strokes for different folks.
