In their second season under head coach James Franklin, Penn State went 7-5 during a regular season that featured the breakout performance of true-freshman 1000-yard rusher Saquon Barkley. The season also included Christian Hackenberg becoming the all-time leading passer in Penn State history, absorbing punishment but still delivering big plays to talented WR's such as Chris Godwin, DaeSean Hamilton, and Geno Lewis.
Defensively, Penn State relied heavily on a dominant defensive line featuring DT's Anthony Zettel, Austin Johnson and the Big10's defensive player of the year Carl Nassib. OLB Brandon Bell provided experience to a group that welcome new starters in Jason Cabinda and Troy Reeder.
The Nittany Lions will conclude the season on January 2, 2016 in the TaxSlayer Bowl (formerly Gator Bowl against the Georgia Bulldogs.
