What turned out to be the second best team in the Pac-10 in 1994 traveled cross-country for a showdown with a dangerous Penn State team in week 2. The Nittany Lions jumped all over USC and had 14 points on the board before the Trojans could even run three offensive plays. The offense was flawless in the first half, and the 35-0 halftime score exemplified it all. If it weren't for a dropped pass, and a long ball that was just a bit overthrown, you would have seen Penn State score 52 points, easy. And that's despite the two interceptions thrown by Collins in the third quarter. All-in-all, USC did not show up for this one and were lucky the score didn't look much worse than it ended up being.
Penn State's Top Performers:
Kerry Collins: 18 of 33, 248 yards, 2 TD passes
Ki-Jana Carter: 17 carries, 119 yards, TD
Freddie Scott: 6 catches, 133 yards, TD
Penn State nabbed it's second win of the season and began to prepare for Iowa in the following week while USC checked in at 1-1 for the year with the loss. The Trojans ended 1994 with an 8-3-1 record, finishing second in the Pac-10 and beating Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl.
