In Season 3 of Penny Dreadful, Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) accepting her demons could exact a terrible cost and plunge the world into darkness, while Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett), Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton), the Creature, and Lily (Billie Piper) must each face their own monstrous selves.

Kinnear's Creature is the best portrayal of the Creature EVER. The pathos is perfect. His path touches the hearts of the broken person inside of us all.

+Dane Bramage Yes. I love his scenes with Vanessa, and Eva has been outstanding this season. I love Patti Lupone too. I'm getting nervous, please don't make our sweet poet into a sadistic orderly, or Lucifer! He did not seem to recognize Dracula when he saw Vanessa. What're the odds they'd all be there at the same time? I'm getting nervous. I wonder if the entities speak through those who are close to Vanessa, with the hopes of a most trusted one getting though! Looking forward to Sunday's episode.

Now now, let's give the writers their due. If Rory can make such a beautiful character, it's primarily because he was _given_ a beautiful opportunity in the scripts, which are masterfully written. According to Josh, the whole process is a collaboration between the writers, the directors, the actors, and Logan himself. But nothing happens without the words, and the words here are spectacularly good. Rory would be the first to acknowledge that - actors love nothing better than being handed beautiful language to work with.

This is a debatable point as I have had with others in the past. In my experience a talented actor can make a mediocre to cruddy script tolerable- but even the best of scripts are lost with bad actors saying their lines.

Dane Bramage Yes, bearable. Not _beautiful_. If you're trying to downplay the contribution of the writers, I can only say you don't know as much about filmmaking as you think you do.

Rory Kinnear portrayal of The Creature was fantastic. He made feel such sadness that my heart broke for him. I got scared when he got mad, or when he killed people except for the family who trapped him in a cage at the wax museum. They deserved it.

Wow. I'm still processing this episode - Rory is outstanding in it. He says so much with his facial expressions, not to mention his words. I was sure he was going to find happiness with his family, I hope he does. They will be glad to see him, much like a returning war veteran! So much mystery in this one, what is the connection with Vanessa? Can't wait for the next episode. Wow.

Proteus had a wife too... he suddenly remembered he had a wife called 'Doreen' (and realized he wanted more than 10 friends) before Caliban literally ripped him in half, and Brona had Ethan before Caliban forced Victor to reanimate her corpse. :( Seeing as though Proteus was probably a sailor on a ship, and Caliban lived near a dock full of ships... maybe Proteus and Caliban knew each other/were friends before Victor reanimated them?

Delighted that they chose Pandora Colin for the role of John Clare's wife!--she who is Rory Kinnear's Partner in real life. This suggests perhaps a better familial outcome for The Creature in Penny Dreadful than in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. And "the white room without day or night"? Will Vanessa realize the zoological museum fills the bill?

+Snaddy 03 Yes, very nice! But ohhhhhhhhhh those conditions his family is living under, having to see that must kill him. I cringed when I saw his wife washing her face of coal dust or soot, and that poor little boy, so bright, and to think people were breathing that on a regular basis. I do hope that he can find happiness again.

This storyline... you just know something will go horribly wrong. Either the family won't accept him out of superstition, or it will be revealed that they themselves played some part in his death, or that he used to be an evil person, or he will wait so long to reveal himself that the child will die, since he looks sick. And here I am, hoping none of that happens because this guy needs a happy moment.

+L. MaDí I read about that theory as well. I totally wish for the creature to have some happiness, but throughout the whole series his character lived from the tragedy and turmoil in his life. I think her being his murderer is a very plausible option and it would turn their relationship in a very interesting, again heartbreaking, new way.

I keep telling people that if you want to know where the story is headed, just look at the title. PENNY DREADFUL. It's all right there. This is not a story where anyone will end up happy or content, or even necessarily alive. It will be terrible, it will be painful, it will be horrific, it will be unjust, it will be tragic, it will be gloriously dark and dreadful. Because that's what penny dreadfuls were - tales of utter awfulness written for the pruriently curious, to indulge our darkest dreams without having to face them in real life. A kind of gothic inoculation against horror and death. Cheerful, ain't it?

If history tells us anything, this possibility off happiness *will* go south, but in a really poetic, beautifully written way xD (Or maybe I'm wrong and the twist is that he'll live happily ever after, serving as a guardian to his family through generations... Naaahh)

By far the most book-accurate Frankenstein Creature. Doesn't need to have Mary Shelley's name slapped on it to feel authentic, he simply has to look and sound.

why was the creature so pale while Lily looked like a normal living person? they were both brought back by Dr. Frankenstein.

I think he was already buried and started to rotten as Dr. Frankenstein brought him back to life. Lily was just 1-2 days dead and in this weird water mixture ^^
