I miss this series! I wish it hadn't been cancelled! They did a sequel series called Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels, taking place in 1950's Los Angeles. Like Penny Dreadful, it was also cancelled.
@@MyNameIsKyle_Reactions It didn’t end on a cliff hanger thank goodness, but there were some significant unanswered questions/interactions that I personally think were missed. They continued in a series of comics though that tried to do just that.
Yes! Loved the first couple seasons - easily in my top 5. Plus, there’s a scene in season 2 that shook me to my core and immediate launched this series from a great show to a brilliant one. And Eva Green is stunning 😍
You posted this a year ago so I can’t wait to see the rest of your reaction. This is my favorite horror series. The writing and verbal language is beautiful. It’s certainly a love letter to traditional gothic literature. And the acting is supreme. Also you got me laughing when you said something like “is this pilgrims?” when the plot is 19th century England where machineries very much exists 😂
6:40 Funny that you mention James Bond. Timothy Dalton (Who play Sr. Malcolm, here) played James Bond in "Living Daylights" (1987) & "Licence To Kill" (1989)
One of the best shows ever. Penny Dreadful, the first season of True Detective, and Battlestar Galactica (2004) are several cuts above all other TV in my opinion. Loved your reaction.
Since you're also currently watching and reacting to the James Bond films, I should tell you that the actor for Sir Ian Malcolm (the old guy) is Timothy Dalton, who played James Bond in two films in the 80s. He's my personal favorite Bond
Penny Dreadful is a gothic masterpiece! I can't really give any info about characters without spoiling upcoming reveals! PD is a really really special and unique series based on all the classic Victorian era Penny Dreadfuls. It is totally worth the investment!
I was so mad when they ended the show & did not buy the writers Bull about the reason. Cant go into it without spoilers so once you get to the end we can talk more about it :) Truly hope you enjoy the show, it was so awesome!!! Story, atmosphere, Acting! Awesome! You gonna love it lol :)
One of the failings of modern horror is that everyone gets hung up on how empowering it is to become a werewolf or a vampire, or a witch or warlock etc etc, but they miss the key element, that the character in question is buying this empowerment by losing his or her immortal soul, the ability to create, or to empathize, or to be allowed into heaven when life ends. The struggle between good and evil is always fought over the ownership of a soul. Absent a concern for the soul, horror comes off a bit bland. Thankfully, Penny Dreadful doesn't go down that path. Horror by gaslight. Victor is, of course, Frankenstein. Sir Malcolm is The Great White Hunter, and his manservant, an African shaman. Miss Ives deals rather intimately with the occult. Mr. Chandler, as miss Ives points out, is a bit youthful for someone who was taught trick-shooting by Wild Bill Hickok over half a century ago. Sir Malcolm's daughter Mina apparently got caught up in an adventure while betrothed to Count Dracula's solicitor, Jonathan Harker. And there are still more players we haven't met yet.
Oh, wow - I have been following your Hannibal. This is a treat. Subscribe and Bell and crossed fingers that you might continue it. It is so beautifully made. And dark blue is definitely an inspired choice for the show.
Ack, this might inspire me to rewatch this. I ADORE this show, particularly my babies Vanessa and Ethan. I think I skipped the very last episode, because I was just so upset about it being cancelled. This show is scary, emotional, and gorgeous, plus I love all of the classic supernatural literature. The music, the costuming, the sets are all beautiful too. Perfection.
Another really underrated show. It's interesting that you're watching this and Black Sails. They're both period pieces that combine characters from literature and historical figures alongside the characters that originate with the show. Don't choose! You should react to them both!
