Another highlight mix of the GOAT. For all the Penny Hardaway fans this Christmas Eve. Rare Phoenix Suns highlights.
In 2000, after leaving the Magic and coming back from chronic knee injuries and surgery, Penny still had a lot of game left, if only for 1-2 seasons with the Suns. Still, one of the top players in the league at the time despite much of his athleticism and explosiveness gone.

what sucks is we never really saw his prime .... we saw him balling at like 24-25ish... he was still a couple seasons from his prime. just crazy. my favorite player ever..... modeled my game after his when i was growing up actually lol.

He was still moving really well, during his first season for the Suns, even after his major injury in 98. Sad that it only lasted one year, before he hobbled around everywhere. Thanks for the upload! Great to see a bunch of Penny Suns stuff altogether.

The Kidd/Penny combo was great that first year when they were on the floor together. I believe the Suns went an impressive 33-12 in games where both guys were in the lineup. The failed offseason surgeries Penny had along with the domestic abuse incident that led to Kidd being traded are what really killed the Backcourt 2000 experiment.

Oh Penny, I miss you in the NBA. It was November 1999. I was in 3rd year HS(Philippines), I remember ESPN was gonna be doing SUNS game on a Wednesday morning. That morning, I left home for school but i didnt really go to school. I went home to tell my Grandma I was having a diarrhea. And she believed me. Hahaha.

Hardaway never recovered after Shaq left for LA and his injuries. 1993 -1996 Hardaway were his best years.

@@imahustla5029 True but the Suns also had some pretty lean years with the 2000-2013 set before Nash came back (missed the playoffs twice in 3 years during the ill-fated Marbury era) as well as his last his last few years in Phoenix before joining the Lakers (mediocrity with no playoffs the last 2 years of Nash and straight garbage the year after he left) while they they never missed the playoffs once while using the 1992-2000 unis.

My ex bought me a Suns jacket and I didnt want it until he said my favorite player Penny Hardaway plays for my home team. Needless to say the best player on the team now wears the same number!!! Love seeing these forgotten clips. Shaq's presence and Nike's marketing machine made him a superstar for the Orlando portion of his career. still a terrific player in his own right, just very injury prone and certainly not on the transcendent level of talent we associate with greatness, as Nike has everyone believe. definitely an entertaining player to watch and legitimate all star. he was a poor man's Tracy McGrady

It actually worked pretty well in the games they played together, the suns went 33-12 in the 45 games during 1999-2000 where both Kidd and Penny were in the lineup.

I always felt like he was being played at the wrong position. Yes he could handle the ball but so could Grant Hill. IMO he was a natural SF with play making abilities... I think that doomed his career trying to guard much quicker PG and SG instead guarding his own position of SF. He was still SPECIAL but I think he would have been more SPECIAL at SF. His best season as a Pro he only gave you 7.1apg those aren't transcending PG numbers. Those are IMO SF numbers...

No.....u cant teach would penny had....excellent vision,excellent passer and ball handling. He was a born pg like magic....putting him at sf would of killed him. Grant was a sf for a reason...not as good a passer as penny,didnt have his vision and had nowhere near pennys ball handling skill. Grant hill still a great player but he was a primetime scorer and not a facilitator like penny.

Penny didn't get the best out of Shaq. As great as he was, Shaq needed to be pushed as his motivation fluctuated. Kobe held Shaq accountable and we all saw the results.
