A gimbal mounted camera attached to a jet locking onto canadian geese is weird for you? I mean yeah, it's pretty amazing piece of techonolgy, since it can actually lock onto a bird with about 1,5 meter (that's about 4 feet in freedumb units) wingspan, flying at about about 2500 meters up in the air (about 8000 feet) from pretty far away while the jet is going Mach 0.61 somewhere about 8 kilometer altitude (about 25000 feet). Oh and if you find it weird that the bird is flying so fast, it's not the bird that's flying fast, it's the parallax that's causing the effect of making it look like the bird is flying fast.

a jet is recording a flying object that can do things that no known human aircraft can do. go listen to navy pilots explain what is happening in the video. the context they give makes it even more intense.

The US Navy's visual, probabally infrared, record of an Unidentified Flying Object flying close to the oceans surface. No known, even classified, technology at the time could produce an object that small going that fast without putting out significant heat like a rocket engine.

But it's right, the apparent speed is just an illusion of parallax. Do you understand what it means at least ? You have a fast plane with the camera on it. A slow object a few thousand feets below and the sea again a few thousands feets below the object. The speed of the camera moving makes the sea scrolls fast under the object even thought it is slow. We would get the same result even if we consider the object to be completely still in the air. (it is not though) The object itself is not an artefact of the camera, it's real, we can even see it flapping its wings.

With film and photography being a major hobby of mine, I understand the additional terminology as well. 1. The apparent speed does not look like an illusion caused by parallax because of how difficult it was for the computer to lock onto the object and given the fact that the pilots could also see it with their bare eyes. You don't think they've seen birds before? 2. The Wikipedia article says that it is just an artifact, not a real object. The consensus is that it's not a bird amoung the scientific community 3. You see FLAPPING in that video???? Give me the time stamp because I and the majority of people on here don't seem to see it.

@@cacojo15 except you are assuming the plane is going fast, what if the plane is crusing at minimal speed required to fly, assume it's going 100 knots or around 185 km/h which is a jets minimum speed, then all you have to do is to find the apparent speed of the white blob and subract the jets speed from it, 185 km/h is not slow even after you subtract it, that thing still is moving faster than a bird, ofcourse i can't figure out the apparent speed of the white blob, so I have to leave it to you, but on a glance it looks like it is going somewhere between 240km/h (i live near an airbase since take of speeds are around that fast i am assuming it to be around 240km/h) that still puts the speed of the bird at 55km/h which is fast for a bird, especially when you consider that this was taken miles off the east coast of USA, i.e. it is far away from land and not that many big birds that can fly 55km/h without needing to cool down, an eagle could but I don't think there are that many eagles flying over the ocean
