Hey neighbor! Thanks for this video because you've given me a different aspect of a song I play with my "The Who" tribute band. If I transpose this lesson from a Gm to Cm I get the chord progression for "The Real Me". I already know the song, but after working with this information I gotta tell you this changes my thinking, and I feel more comfortable on the fretboard. Very nice job, Sir! All the notes are there, check it out! 😝

I'm a little past the beginner stages of learning bass, looking to be more comfortable with playing on more than one part of the fretboard. Of all the "unlocking the fretboard" videos on youtube this and the previous video are the first to actually succeed at making me feel like my whole fretboard is usable in a realistic way. You've got a new student and fan!

Rich, I cannot get enough of your lessons. They are such a joy to watch and learn from -- you're not just a world-class Maestro, you're a master pedagogue, too. Your lessons uplift spirit as well as generate new ways of thinking about one's approach to the instrument. Thank you so much for sharing your genius herein.

Holy Smokes - This So Rocks My World - I Am Slowly Working Through The 3's But The 4's Are Working Me Over - However, The 3's Sound So Dynamic When I Slow Down And Nail The Fretboard Cleanly - Never Thought I Would Be Able To Work From A Low G To A High G At The 12th And Now Skipping, Mind BLOWN - Thanx Ever So Much For Building My Confidence Mr Rich Go Team Human, Cheers

First time viewer, I'm really impressed! Your education and presentation style is relaxed and 'one-on-one' which helps get the message across. What I really appreciate is that you do not include score sheets or tabs, instead the student has to watch and THINK which cements the lesson in place. Or is that the way my brain is wired?

Awesome lesson...I tried it a few days ago and it took a little getting used to. Came back to it today and felt pretty fluid with it. I like the suggestion "if you can find the root on the E string," basically you can get a lot of mileage out of it. (or is it kilometer-age?)
@richbrownbass

Hey Rich, I’m noticing that when you play notes on the fretboard with your ring finger your pinky hovers very closely. It looks like it’s always ready to play a note. However, when I play a note with my ring finger my pinky automatically moves away from the fretboard. For example if I’m playing a note on the E string with my ring finger, my pinky finger starts hovering over the D string on reflex. Do you have any exercises or suggestions for this?
@richbrownbass

Thanks for the question. I do get this a lot. I'll do my best to address this issue in a video sometime within the next couple of weeks. Please do stay tuned.

@@richbrownbass I’m going to go out a limb and say that this must be one of the most common habits B-players have. Took me years to stop my pinky curling and even now it gets lazy. You’re definitely not alone!

I do understand the relativity between Ionian and Aeolian, however isn’t each mode in this key relative as they all share same notes? My question, why do most instructional videos seem to only focus on the 1 and 6 when teaching relative scales?
@richbrownbass
@richbrownbass Год назад
I think it's mainly because the 2 most common pentatonic scales are found within the 1 and the 6 (which are essentially the major and minor scales).
