They did the autotune on Cher as a tribute to the original version which was famous for being the first use of autotune - it was known as the Cher effect.

They did the autotune in Blue as well since Eiffel 65's Europop was a full electronic type album. I also would Love them to do that "Every time we touch" in full length, because Kirstie sounds so gorgeous with the lead and the harmonizing is beautiful!

Mitch was just fantastic and he was smiling all the way through it to it like we have our Mitch back and the auto tune is because Cher was the first to bring auto tuning out with I believe so they went by the song it self and I think it sounded fantastic with or without ☺️ great reaction

I'm glad you liked it so much. I knew lol. 😁 Of course they were all great, but Mitch was just shining. I am happy that you appreciated him. He is often assessed through the prism of high key, but has a beautiful and strong voice also in the low registers, which we heard, for example, in "Amazing grace". The stylings was also on point. Kirstie looked gorgeous in her curls and metallic lipstick.

Boom Boom Boom Boom - Vengaboys It Feels So Good - Sonique Everytime We Touch - Cascada Blue (Da Ba Dee) - Eiffel 65 Deep Inside - Little Louie Vega / Hardrive Show Me Love - Robin S. Waiting for Tonight - Jennifer Lopez Beautiful Life - Ace of Base Believe - Cher Gypsy Woman - Crystal Waters Finally - CeCe Peniston

I think it would have been odd if they hadn't payed homage to the original electronic auto tune sound on Believe, particularly considering that the effect was introduced/invented on the song Believe and therafter became known as "the Cher effect."
@barneyDcaller
@barneyDcaller 3 года назад
They put autotune as homage to Cher. Her song Believe was the first commercial song who used autotune, so for them using autotune on their medley is a sure fit. Autotune was called "the cher effect" at one point after the song's release in 1998
@rlhcat7662

Thanks for the great honest reaction. I agree with you that they could do without the auto tune. They have done electronic sounding segments in songs before, like Daft Punk and Love Again, they don't need to fake it. I heard it in 3 or 4 of the songs, including the one where Matt did a solo. It takes away from their skills, and hopefully it's not a sign of things to come. I did love Kirstie's lower range on a few of her solos, so beautiful.

You're obviously not familiar with the original Believe. It was the first use of autotune as an artistic effect instead of a corrective effect. Using it here was their tribute to Cher.

Aw, c'mon. How can you do Cher's "Believe" without Autotune? It's iconic! They had to do it. (One of the cool things about PTX is that they occasionally break the rules of pure a cappella. Add Kevin's cello? Sure. Throw in Lindsey Stirling once in a while? Why not. Autotune when the song demands it? Yep.)

They only did one Top Pop Volume. Personally, I think this medley is similar to the Top Pop Vol. 1 Medley, a promo medley of the 17 songs that will appear on a 90s Dance Music covers album, but I don't know. They released this single & video with almost no fanfare, and even the most ardent Pentaholics were surprised by it just suddenly appearing. They still haven't announced what is coming next or what this is from. As others have pointed out, yes, they went with the autotune on this medley. They started using more studio tricks beginning with the Lucky Ones album. In this case, it is a tribute to Cher, who (on Believe) was the first artist to use autotune as an artistic expression rather than a corrective effect. As a lot of people have stated since this medley was released, Believe would not be Believe without autotune, so you may be VERY MUCH in the minority on your dislike of it.

It was the first time I've ever heard them use autotune and I absolutely approve and understand why they used it for that specific purpose.
