Hi Red…. If you are looking for another ptx medley, try the Wizard of Ahhs It’s a collab with Todrick Hall. It’s terrific. If you want stand alone ptx, I’d recommend Imagine. The John Lennon song. One of their best.

I absolutely agree with both of the selections above! You'll love it. And if you haven't heard it, you'll love Kevin Osula with Cello doing his version of "Down" as well as another one where he covers Harry Styles' "Sign of the Times". Love your reactions and your mix of artists. Keep it up!

@@redheadedneighbor"Wizard of Ahhhs" is an homage to _"The Wizard of Oz,"_ the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland. It won't make sense if you haven't seen the movie, so be sure to take care of that first.

I think knowing the story's enough, I've only seen the wiz from 78 and loved the Todrick/PTX remake. I'm willing to see Garland's original though.

so, Kevin beat boxing while playing cello is part of the #PTX origin story. Kevin posted a video on RU-vid cello boxing and it went viral, right around the time the "Trio" was looking for their beat boxer.

Actually, Lindsey taught herself to dance in her early twenties and had some training during a RU-vid dance show, but started learning Ballroom dancing through her Dancing With The Stars Pro-dance partner Mark Ballas in 2017 in which they finished in 2nd place for the Mirror Ball Trophy.

I always love your reactions. There is so much to check out with Pentatonix. If you have the chance to react to something new I recommend reacting to Blue Man Group doing I Feel Love live featuring Venus Hum. Not too many are put there reacting to the Blue Men. Lindsey also collabs with them on Papaoutai and Over the River- both are excellent. I also recommend Shatter Me, a collab with Lzzy Hale, for more Lindsey magic. And Kevin, well Kevin is just 🤯. How brilliant that his initials are K.O. because that’s what he routinely does to all of us 😵.

I actually discovered Pentatonix when this video showed up on Lindsey's channel. Lindsey was on America's Got Talent as the hip-hop violinist. She got a fairly bad review from Piers Morgan and instead of it getting her down, she doubled down and started releasing videos on RU-vid and she blew up. She actually came in 2nd on Dancing With The Stars. My favorite of hers is Hold My Heart featuring the wonderful ZZ Ward. Plus it is Alice in Wonderland themed!! Radioactive was originally done by Imagine Dragons, but I like this version much better.

I'm so glad you are a fan of Lindsay. Her story is so inspirational. She was insulted on a talent show for trying to be too technical. She almost quit because the judge said she had no talent and would never make it. She tried RU-vid videos and was an instant success. Then she started touring while finishing her degree from BYU. She is a great role model for young girls and is loved by everyone.

This video is nearly 11 years old now. At the time it was released, Pentatonix was really just getting their start on RU-vid, where Lindsey had a much larger presence already. Her collaboration with PTX was a way of giving them a "hand up" by exposing her audience to them. Even now, if you look at the video on both of their channels, Lindsey's has nearly 4 times the views that Pentatonix does. She's an artist well-worth exploring on her own! PS - small typo in the video title, there's no "a" in Lindsey's name.

For Medleys I recommend "Evolution of Ariana Grande," and also, I would love someone to do a double reaction to Pentatonix's "Evolution of Rihanna" and Sup3rfruit's "Rihanna Anti-Medley." Sup3rfruit is just Mitch and Scott from Pentatonix if you aren't familiar with it. If you aren't, here is a brief-as-possible intro: they started it as a humorous vlog when they were living together, and it lead to awesome silliness (like "Hip Hop Goes Broadway I & II," and a "Feeling Myself" cover), Parodies (like "Defying Gravity," "Frozen," "LaLaLand," "Stranger Fruit" etc), excellent collaborations (like "Black & White" with Todrick Hall & Kirstin, "Beautiful" with Betty Who, "The Promise" with Adam Rippon, and the incredible "Rise" with Brian Justin Crum, Mario Jose & Mary Lambert), some hilarious games and challenges, great evolution videos and medleys (like "Evolution of Beyonce" "Evolution of Miley Cyrus" "Evolution of Lady Gaga," and "Empire Medley,") and finally culminated a full EP of original music plus a tour called "Future Friends." Every song from the EP has a video, (I'd start with "Guy.exe," "Bad for Us," and "DenyU" but all the songs are SO GOOD, some are quirky and fun, and all are addictive). Don't you love a rabbit hole that has another rabbit hole in it?

Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix have collaborated three times so far and I'm pretty sure they will again. Lindsey Stirling yesterday released a new Single/Music video for the song "Eye of the Untold Her". The first song from her upcoming 7th album "DUALITY" 6/14. Besides PTX Lindsey Stirling has worked with Amy Lee and Evanescence, ZZ Ward, John Legend, Celine Dion, Lzzy Hale of Halestorm and a long list of other vocalists and bands. The video is the story of Lindsey's journey from 2010's America's Got Talent when she was told by the judges Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne that she was not good enough to make it in the music industry. The video depicts young Lindsey and her future self as she sees that her dreams can come true. That inside voice that says to keep going and don't give up just because your told you're not good enough. Lindsey along with her Dancing With The Stars dance partner Mark Ballas reenact their DWTS dances and Lindsey reenacts some of her past music videos which also includes Derek Hough and current live performances. I may have missed it but another you should look at is their version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Apparently it took them 5 years to put together and Brian May recommended it to all his (Facebook?) followers. They treated it with respect (the shooting stars are a tribute to the dead band members, it will make sense if you watch it). Cheers

Somewhere there may be a better beatboxer than Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable), but if so I've never encountered him or her. Kevin is generally too busy being the entire percussion section to sing, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice that occasionally dips into the uppermost reaches of baritone, and he's known for the beauty of his falsetto. He's also a pretty good rapper. If someone were to write a novel about a phenomenal a cappella band that overcomes huge odds to take the world by storm, the publisher MIGHT let them get away with including a contratenor with a range of just over 6 octaves, or three of them growing up in the same small town and being childhood friends (pretty big coincidence, don't you think?), maybe. But the publisher would definitely draw the line at Kevin. Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. He's a world-class cellist who beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he calls "celloboxing." He performed at Carnegie Hall twice when he was a teenager, once on piano and once on saxophone. He graduated from Yale with a pre-med major in 2011 and had already been accepted to Yale Medical School before he decided to become a professional beatboxer instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs he makes the whole planet seem like a brighter place. The odds against the trio finding Kevin just when they needed him were astronomical. The fact that he was willing to give up his place in medical school to join three teenagers and a bass on a television talent show is astounding. And the fact that, when Epic dropped that first recording contract, Kevin DIDN'T say, "That's it. I'm outta here. I can still become a surgeon." speaks of a man with incredible character. You can find Kevin's personal channel here: youtube.com/@kolusola I recommend Kevin's KOver of Marian Hill's version of "Down": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IGjg193h4Ok.html Also, you'll like "The Kevin Show/Kevin's Fifth"; this is a live feed from a Pentatonix concert in Owensboro, Kentucky, Kevin's home town: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DbCasvcNx78.html

😂 Oh, my. It just dawned on me that you've never heard Pentatonix's origin story or you'd know about celloboxing. So here goes, and I apologize in advance for the length. Kirstin, Mitch, and Scott all grew up in Arlington, Texas. All of them were involved with community musical theater as children, and Mitch met both Scott and Kirstin there (separately) when he was still a pre-teen, and became friends with each of them. However, Scott and Kirstin didn't meet each other until they were fourteen and in the same high school class. All three were choir geeks (duh), and they quickly became best friends in high school. There was some kind of singing contest to meet the stars of _"Glee,"_ and the three of them wanted to enter, so they formed a trio which they named "The Trio." (I know; not very imaginative. They're somewhat better with that now.) They lost the contest, but they kept The Trio together anyway; they performed at school functions and occasionally on local television. Pentaholics still refer to these three as "the trio," and the trio is the heart of Pentatonix. Kirstin and Scott were a year ahead of Mitch; they graduated in 2010, when Mitch was still in eleventh grade, and both went away for their freshman year of college. Scott went to the University of Southern Califonia, and Kirstin went to the University of Oklahoma with a full ride scholarship. Scott is a very outgoing person, so he immediately began looking around for extracurricular activities where he could meet people and make new friends, and he found an award-winning amateur a cappella group named SoCal VoCals, which he joined. While there he met Ben Bram, who at the time was a coach on NBC's a cappella competition show named _"The Sing-Off."_ A cappella groups would audition for the show, and those that passed appeared throughout the season. There was a panel of three judges, all professional musicians, who would critique each performance. Along the way some groups would be eliminated, narrowing the field, and at the end of the season viewers would be invited to vote on a winner. The winning group would receive $200,000 and a recording contract with Epic, a minor subsidiary of Sony, the show's sponsor. Scott was intrigued. He thought The Trio could be competitive, and if they could get a recording contract they could have a career doing what they most loved, with the people they most loved. So he talked to Kirstin, who thought his idea had promise, and at the end of their first year of college the two of them headed back to Arlington to be there for Mitch's graduation and to talk with Mitch about Scott's idea. Meanwhile, back in Arlington Mitch had been having a very difficult year. His best friends weren't there, and as an out-of-the-closet young gay man with an unusually high voice he was being seriously bullied. And unfortunately, since the bullying was ostensibly for his voice he was quickly developing the notion that there was something wrong with his voice and that no one would want to hear him sing. So when Scott presented his idea Mitch was on board; it was a way to get away from the bullies. He had doubts about his ability to carry his weight in the group, because of the bullying, but he was willing to try and if Scott and Kirstin said they could win, well, maybe they could. So with everyone agreed, Scott called Ben Bram to find out how to arrange for an audition, and this is where they met their first setback. _"The Sing-Off"_ had a size requirement; the minimum size allowed was five. The Trio needed two new members and a new name. They were stumped. Ben suggested that they'd profit from adding a rhythm section: a bass and a beatboxer, and he knew the perfect person to recommend for the bass, a guy named Avi Kaplan. They talked to Avi, and he was very interested, so that took care of the bass, but where to find the beatboxer? Ben didn't have any suggestions. So in desperation they typed "beatboxer" into a RU-vid search box and the first hit they got was a black guy playing a classical piece on the cello and beatboxing at the same time. And all of them said, "Wow! He's the one! How can we get in touch with him?" They were in luck. At the time RU-vid had something called RU-vid messages, which would allow private messages between members (now discontinued), so they sent Kevin a private message: "Hey! We really love your stuff, and we wonder if you'd be interested in flying across the country to join four strangers to audition for an a cappella competition show on television?" And Kevin messaged them back: "Normally I'd be there in a heart beat; I love a cappella and have been in a cappella groups before. But right now I'm studying for my final exams for my pre-med major from Yale." Oh. That sounded pretty definite; better keep looking. So they kept looking, and they found someone, but he was no Kevin Olusola. Oh well; you work with what you have. And two weeks later Kevin messaged them again: "Good news! I just graduated. If the gig's still open I can fly out." He arrived the day before their audition. Mitch had to skip his graduation ceremony to attend the audition. But even with just a day of rehearsal they still passed the audition; they were in. Oh, yes, the name. Pentatonix is named for the pentatonic scale, which has five (penta) tones just as Pentatonix has five (Penta) singers. In other words, it's a fancier way of saying they're now "The Quintet." 😂 Pentatonix appeared throughout season three of _"The Sing-Off,"_ and eventually won. All those performances are available on RU-vid and are well worth watching, preferably in order so you can see how they grew throughout the season. Some of them are as good as anything they've done since (which is saying a lot) and are only available in those old videos. (Note: If you decide to react to these, be sure and watch the versions that contain the show's introduction of Pentatonix just before the performance, and the judges' critiques of the the performance, and any comments Pentatonix made backstage.) So, they'd won _"The Sing-Off,"_ complete with recording contract. Time to move to California permanently and begin recording. And a week later Epic reneged on the contract, saying that they didn't know how to market a cappella. But at this point Pentatonix weren't willing to give up; they WANTED that career they'd been working toward. So they pooled their winnings and lived frugally. The four men shared two apartments, to cut down on expenses. They arranged music and rehearsed every day, and when they had a song ready they used their iPhones to record themselves anywhere they could find good acoustics, and sometimes in places with acoustics that were just okay. And they posted to RU-vid. Their fans from _"The Sing-Off"_ quickly found them there, and subscribed, and they began to get more views and more subscribers, and to pick up a few patrons. In fact, they were going viral. And Sony noticed, and approached them with an offer: Perhaps Pentatonix would like a recording contract with Madison Gate, another minor subsidiary? Hmmm. 🤔 Would they like a recording contract? Might have to think about that, for a second or two. Darn right they'd like a recording contract! And then came "Daft Punk Medley," and Pentatonix won their first Grammy. And again, Sony took notice, and approached Pentatonix: "We've been thinking about it and we believe you might find a better fit with our flagship label, RCA. Are you interested?" They've been with RCA ever since. They go on tours world wide and perform to sold-out venues. They put out at LEAST one album a year, frequently more. One has gone Gold and one has gone Platinum twice. They have three Grammys and recently received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. And they are the only a cappella band to have won so much as ONE Grammy, or to be represented on the Walk of Fame.

When this was done Lindsey had a bigger following than PTX. I think this video won a You Tube award for best music video I think. Lindsey's channel is worth checking out even if you don't react to her music. This is the first of three songs PTX has done with Lindsey. The other two are Papaoutai and Over the River. Over the River is pretty insane. It is always a treat to have them work together. Kevin usually plays his cello also. Yes, Kevin is the human cheat code. What he does is called cello boxing and a video of his went viral when PTX was looking for a beatboxer for The Sing Off.
