PTX 5 voices = wall of sound. Kirstin and Mitch during Scotts 2nd vocal is insane with what they are doing background wise!! The true power of music is it's ability to cause emotion or bring about action...when you get either or both of those...that's a powerful song. Wonderful reaction! PTX brings that power so many times. For the other side try their original "Happy Now" you will smile.

Their covers of Imagine and Hallelujah will also bring tears to your eyes. I especially love those two because they have this wall of sound harmony effect that just gets me every time. I have probably seen both of those videos 100 times each and they still get me every time. Both of those videos have original base, Avi.

AWESOME! You are not alone. Lots of people tear up at this version, whether they are familiar with Simon & Garfunkel or not. It's beautiful. The arrangement PTX used here was based more on the version that the Metal band Disturbed came up with when they covered the song (2014, I think? Maybe 2015?). That one was absolutely jaw-dropping for any fan of Disturbed. We were not ready for what they did with the song. We were used to some really hard-hitting loud METAL! So when they covered this, it was a shock. All of these versions still manage to stay true to the original in some ways, while stretching or breaking boundaries in others. Completely different sounds but the same lyrics, tried and true over fifty years. This song will be around forever.

PTX has the ability to hit you right in the feels. I think you might enjoy their cover of Radioactive which they did with Lindsey Sterling. It is one of the few songs they did with instruments. Kevin, the beatboxer plays the cello while beatboxing (celloboxing) and Lindsey plays violin. It is one of my many PTX favorites.

The man in the white coat replaced Avi Kaplan, the original bass. Check out Imagine or Daft Punk to truly appreciate what he contributed to the band in the 6 years he was with them. Matt, the new bass, in the white coat, has a brilliant soulful bass and baritone sound that has changed the way their music sounds today!!!

Avi was amazing. He’s a generational talent. I’ve never heard PTX sound better than they do now though. Matt is quite literally the PERFECT FIT for them. He’s easily my favorite. Also, this song. This particular version… This is my favorite song of all time. Since PTX released it, I’ve listened to it at least once a day religiously.

Daft Punk, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene (with Dolly Parton!!) are the songs that have garnered them their three Grammys. All three videos are amazing. Simon and Garfunkel are absolutely before my time and I still love their music. The PTX cover took this song to a whole new level.

You would see Avi in Hallelujah and many other songs/covers ... he's got a beard and can hit notes so low, it vibrates. His replacement is Matt (wearing the white jacket) in this video. He can sing low notes too. :) BTW, I didn't like that song before PTX .... but they changed my mind. :)

This is an awesome cover of a great tune. Simon and Garfunkel's original was recorded without percussion and their producer, Tom Wilson added electronic drums after its original release without informing the artists. They would perform the song acoustic, without drums in concert. With or without percussion, this is a great tune and I love the emotions PTX brings out with their cover.

Avi wasn’t replaced by “the guy with the mustache”. The guy with the mustache is Mitch. He did the lead on “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Avi is a bass. Mitch is a counter-tenor. Avi was replaced by Matt, the gentleman at the end with the white jacket. Mitch (and Kirstin) change their looks a lot. It may not look like them, but it IS them!

You are getting peppered with requests for their work, anything that they perform will be great. Just a comment on the emotions they evoke. Pentatonix conveys the emotion of a song so well. The pop and rock covers invariably bring smiles to a reactor's face. Goose bumps and tears for the more serious content. They make me tear up too! Keep reacting to PTX and you will see what I mean.

I never thought the version that Simon & Garfunkle did in Central Park could be topped, but this version does come damn close. I am always a sucker for multiple part harmonies, especially done in acapella style and nobody seems to do it better than Pentatonix. Not to put any kind of measure to Pentatonix, but you might want to check out a group called Naturally 7 and their rendition of "Fix You". That group and their version is just amazing. If you do that, let me know, I'd love to watch it when you do to hear your comments on it.

This is great version of the Sound of Silence, but imo the best cover is by Disturbed (720,000,000 RU-vid views for the official video!). Its 'darker' than the Pentatonix version, but completely captivating! There's also an excellent live version on RU-vid from the Conan show. The Conan one is my favourite.... always good to hear a song live and David Draiman absolutely nails the vocal! :)

Avi was the original bass member and leg to go on to his own musical passion. Matt is the one one the far left who replaced him as bass but has a wide range of vocal capabilities.

Matt (third soloist in the white jacket) replaced Avi. All the other members have remained the same. Mitch & Kirstie are chameleons who are constantly changing their looks (Kirstie also had some reconstructive facial surgery in 2016 that changed her facial structure quite a bit). Just remember that the girl is always Kirstie and the little guy with the soaring voice is always Mitch. There is a saying about this song going around on the internet that I tend to agree with: The Simon & Garfunkel original (especially the acoustic version) was a gentle warning of things to come; the Disturbed cover of a few years back was an angry response that the warning wasn't heeded; the Pentatonix cover is hopeful optimism that the warning will still be heard.

A good guideline for you to be able to place when these performances were done, and who is in them is: Avi left, and helped find an amazing replacement for himself (Mat) in 2017. So, any videos posted before 2017 in the PTXofficial channel will have Avi in them. After that date, you will find Mat. It will also give you an instant idea of the timeline if you don't know the date of the video, by who is performing.

Great reaction! I know you have gotten a lot of requests for more PTX and really anything you pick you will enjoy. PTX doesn't just cover songs, they upgrade them! But I think you would also like to see "The Song of Women" by The Hu featuring Lzzy Hale from Halestorm. She is amazing, I love all Halestorm songs, but The Hu are a Mongolian band and the song is fantastic! Check it out.

If you want to encounter an acapella tear-bringer, try listening to Home Free's rendition of "How Great Thou Art." Its powerful. How powerful, you may ask? I'm a confirmed, lifelong atheist. I have no use for hymns or church-music at all. But I listened to Home Free's "How Great Thou Art" because my grandfather used to sing it all the time. And from about ten seconds in, I was crying, and kept crying through the end of it. And I listen to it now all the time, because its beautiful.

@@TheSpeakEasyLounge I think it was that I miss my Grampa. When I was small and I was sad or angry or scared, he would lift me up into his lap and sing this song to me, and it would calm me down. And its been so long since he died (35+ years) that I'm beginning to forget his voice -- how he sounded when he spoke -- but I will always remember how he sounded when he sang "How Great Thou Art" to me.

Very disappointing review. PLEASE do your homework BEFORE you set off on a review. To me it's very distracting for you to be "looking up" things you SHOULD know before you try to review a performance. It's rude not only to the performers but also to your viewers. Thank you.

Hi Tom. That is just who I am. Sorry if you are disappointed. My videos are raw, unedited on purpose. I would rather get my information from all of you. You have much better insights, and it gives me a chance to interact with everyone. I go into these videos completely in the dark, on purpose. I undestand that I can't please everyone, but most people like me and my videos just the way they are. Thank you for your feedback though.
