Pentatonix - Shallow (FIRST TIME HEARING) 

I’ve never seen a video from Pentatonix that wasn’t exceptional.

I think you’ll love their “Imagine”. “Havana” too. They never disappoint.

Kevin is the group's beatboxer and he plays both the cello ( yes, you were right about it) and the sax. He also beatboxes while playing the cello. He put out a youtube video of himself doing both at the same time and Scott Hoying ( the lead in this song) saw it when the trio ( Scott, Mitch Grassi, Kirsten Maldonado) were looking for two new members to enter a 2011 Sing-Off competition ( which they won) and added Avi Kaplan as the bass. Avi left the group amicably and now has a solo career. Matt Sallee has been the group's bass since 2017. Pentatonix always do upgrades to whatever cover they do. I've not seen a bad one yet. Suggestions: Havana, Coffee In Bed, Be My Eyes, Dreams, When The Party's Over, Happy Now.

03:18 - 03:26 I keep think that Kevin has restarted playing his cello, but instead it's Matt who is singing his bass line and almost imitating the sound of Kevin's cello. Something easy to miss on a first watch, is that the video is black-and-white, except for small pops of gold color on some jewelry and room fixtures. This is a throwback to the movie posters, which were all black-and-white, with gold lettering for "A Star Is Born".

PENTATONIX Does NOT do covers.............they Make UPGRADES! That’s the perfect way to explain the songs they perform . I can’t take credit for that statement but I sure wish I could because I truly believe that.! We all Already know how INSANELY TALENTED they are, and they ALWAYS out do the originals. Kevin is a concert-level cellist, and has played at Carnegie Hall. While living in China he began blending his beatboxing with the cello, and calls his creation cello-boxing. Yeah, Pentatonix is not your average a cappella group! Great reaction.

PTX does superb cover upgrades. Their Originals are outrageously excellent also. I highly recommend you watch the 2016 pop spring mini concert. It's 17 minutes long but has them performing live with three originals and one cover medley. It was filmed by mtv, I believe, so visual and audio are excellent and you can see they are just as good if not better live. Subbed for more ptx.

Yep...Kevin is a world class cello player. Yo Yo Ma, one of the most famous cellists in the world said Kevin was the most creative cellist he knew. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I can't recommend a PTX video that is disappointing, and I've seen/heard all of their videos many times PLUS I've seen them live. Thank you for your enthusiastic reaction. I just subbed. I look forward to more.

Kevin is a classically trained cellist who has performed at Carnegie Hall He also beatboxes while playing the cello. He calls it cello-boxing. He is also Yale premed graduate don't ever underestimate what you think they can do. Just enjoy being surprised and amazed. That's what I do.!

For a good look at how they contribute individually watch Gold. Check original artist first to appreciate how they make it theirs. Brace for Mitch slap!

Kevin is cello/ boxing. Playing then cello and beatboxing. These people are so insanely talented This is beautiful They filmed it in black and white with gold highlights because lady GaGa s shallow album is black and white with gold and they wanted to,pay tribute to the original

Kevin's "Cello-Boxing" is how they discovered him.. He had put out a video while he was in med school (Yale) and they loved it so much that they contacted him and the rest is history! Sorry.. can't think of any song they've done.. cover or original, that isn't an upgrade or just perfection...

Love the original song but PTX knocks it out of the park. Try Floor Jansen from Nightwish doing it on Bestes Zangers. You may like that too. Who thinks of putting a cello in this song? How about Kevin since he is an expert cello player haha. Catch him doing "Down". You will be impressed.

Okay, so you had to go and mention cellos....I HIGHLY recommend Thunderstruck by AC/DC played by 2 Cellos. Don't be fooled by the beginning of the video. It's nuts! Oh, and nice mayo!

Might not be an upgrade like they usually do but it was really close to the original.

The only songs Pentatonix doesn't do well are the ones they don't do at all. I know a few songs I'd love them to -cover- upgrade, that they've never even heard of, but I've never seen an official PTX release that wasn't gorgeous.

To answer your question, nope. There isn't any song they do that isn't excellent. lol.
